“Our topic is Street Gangs. We chose this topic because we wanted to know how to avoid them. We are worried about their dangerous behavior, because it affects a lot of people who can be hurt or die.”

STREET GANGS AND ROBBERSStreet gangs are made up of young people that are fragile within themselves, but they

want to look strong in society and manifest their ideas with violent behaviour. STREET GANGS

Wear gang clothes. They have tattoos of their gang

on their bodies. Have a gang name Have a territory They paint graffiti They are 10 years old and older. They are big groups The aim of street gangs goal is

to fill an emptiness they feel in the bottom of their hearts.

ROBBERS Wear any type of clothes or black

clothes. Do not necessarily have tattoos They have an alias They don`t have a marked

territory. They don`t paint graffiti. They are any age. They are small groups The aim of robbers goal is to

have money and things they want.

Street gangs in the worldThe first gang that appeared was formed by Irish immigrants and was called

Forty Irish Thieves.

The first Latinoamerican street gang formed by young people appeared around 1990 in countries like Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil, Peru, and Chile.

In Lima there are around 5000 street gang members which are involved in vandalism and delinquency.

Causes and Consequences

Causes: to feel strong to be someone bad recommendations from

friends problems in their families little education to take revenge

Consequences:

jail end like ‘garbage’ reformatories

Reformatories are centers for people who have problems and are very violent. The problem with reformatories is that not always young people that go there are reformed when they leave.

1. Street gangs want to rebel against society as a way to make themselves be heard and understood.

2. Street gangs really need to be listened to by others. We have to put street gangs in places so they can really change and express themselves properly. Parents or relative's help is very important.
