CLP Talk 4: Repentance & Faith
Y ou think God can’t use you because of you unworthi‐ness? You think He only uses per‐fectly qualified people? Think again…
Moses was not a great speaker. Jonah ran from God. Jacob was a liar. Noah got drunk. Rahab was a prostitute. David had an affair. Jeremiah was depressed a lot. Solo‐mon was rich in wisdom but poor in

lifestyle. John the Baptist was just plain poor. Timothy was too young. Abraham was too old. Lazarus was dead. Sarah was barren. Naomi was widow. Gideon and Thomas both doubted. So did Sarah. Peter lack self‐control. James and John were self‐righteous. Paul has a short fuse, so did Peter and Moses. Actually lot’s of people did.

doesn’t make us perfect. We just found the right way and struggling to keep on that way. Along side with other believers in the journey of getting to know more God.
Yes, we were sinners and we con‐tinue to sin. But we believe that in Christ there is salvation and that God may still use us in spite of our disabilities and imperfections.
Brief Outline I. God loves us, God sent His
own Son to die for us, God has initiated a rela-tionship with us as Fa-ther. Our proper re-sponse to all God has done for us is repentance and faith.
II. The Greek word for re-
pentance is "metanoia", which literally means a change of mind.
It is a change of direction in life. It is a change in the way we live our lives, dropping an old set of ideals and values and adopting new ones.
Specifically, repentance means a turning away from sin, evil, wrongdoing and running your own life.
Further, it is turning to a life of obedience to God and having Jesus on the throne of your life.
III. Specific serious sins we
must renounce: non‑-Christian reli-gions; Spiri-tualism and the occult; Sexual wrongdoing; Seri-ous crimes (murder, rape, etc.); Drunkenness and drugs.
IV. Faith is belief in the good
news of salvation in Je-sus. It is a belief in Jesus as our personal Savior.
V. Consequences of repen-tance and faith:
Salvation from sin, Satan, death. Forgiveness and eternal life with God. New life in the Holy Spirit.
Discussion Starter 1. Share with one another
areas where you need to turn more fully to God.
2. Share areas where you need to grow in faith.

This is the same call to us today. Turn away from sin and all obstacles to God, and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. Then take God up on all His promises.

How to Repent?
Through His Grace and Glory, He will change us back into His own likeness and image. We just have to repent and have faith.
God’s army isn’t perfect. It never has been because God wants to show to the world His greatness through small things. It’s the march of the unqualified.

~ 1 John 1:9
35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
Jesus Appears to the Disciples
36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. 38 He said to them, “Why
are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”
40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. 41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of
L et me shock you: Temp‐tations don’t cause you sin.
That bottle of gin didn’t cause you to sin. That casino didn’t cause you to sin. That girl in a miniskirt and plunging neckline didn’t cause you to sin. That annoying, rude, and obnoxious officemate that tests your pa‐tience didn’t cause you to sin. Instead, a weak spiritual im‐mune system caused you to sin. No, I’m not referring to your lack of religiosity. There are religious people whose schedules are filled to the brim with religious activities—going to Mass daily, attending prayer meetings daily, reading the Bible daily, praying the rosary daily, and wearing 16 scapulars around their neck–but they’re rampant sinners. And they also have the gall to be highly judg‐mental and critical of others too. A strong spiritual immune sys‐tem isn’t about religion but about relationships. Specifically, loving relationships. It’s about whether you have a loving rela‐

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The

tionship with yourself, with oth‐ers, and with God. In other words, your spiritual immune system is how much love you have in your heart. Let me put it in another way. To make your physical immune sys‐tem strong, you need nourishing food. To make your spiritual im‐mune system strong, you need nourishing love. And when your spiritual immune system is strong, it’ll be a little bit more difficult to fall into repeated sin. Perfect Set‐Up For Sin Today, you need to learn how to change the environment of the battle. When you see a “perfect set‐up for sin”, find a way to avoid it. And if you can’t avoid it, be alert. This “perfect set‐up for sin” in‐cludes two elements. 1.Be Alert When You’re Absent From Service
The Bible says that “at a time when kings go to war”, David stayed home. In other words, he was absent from service. He should have been deep in the battlefield. His feet should have been muddy, his arms should have been sweaty, and his blade should have been bloody—but that wasn’t the case. On that day, his feet were clean, his arms were perfumed, and his blade was rusty.
The difference between
“serving” and “attending” is
gigantic.
2.Be Alert When You’re Alone This is the second set‐up for sin. When David fell, he wasn’t only absent, he was also alone. Be‐cause he sent General Joab and all his friends to fight the battle for him. You need good friends around you to protect you from tempta‐tion. When you’re alone, away from good friends, be on guard. Because you’re more susceptible to the enemy. That means that if you’re alone, you’re multiplying your chances of falling by a hundred times. The Bible is very realistic. In one passage, it warns, Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for some‐one to devour. (Peter 5:8) If you’re alone, I suggest you join a herd.
