Svelte lead and supporting actress nominee Alicia Vikander stunned in a fashion-forward white ruffled Louis Vuitton dress. Saoirse Ronan, also up for best actress, similarly picked white -- a feminine Yves Saint Laurent Couture gown with draping cape -- for her big night. “(My Globes look) will be elegant, but it will still be young,” Ronan told Variety at this week’s “Brooklyn” celebra- tion. “I have a brilliant stylist who has really encouraged me to just have fun with what I wear. When you’re young, you don’t want to be taken too seriously.” Other ladies making statements in white included “Transpar- ent’s” Judith Light, who chose a sleek pantsuit; “Orange is the New Black’s” Laverne Cox, who wore a simple white Elizabeth Kennedy dress with dramatic train; “Telenovela’s” Eva Longoria, who picked a fitted white dress with floral embellishments and open back; and Taraji P. Henson, who opted for a strapless Stella McCartney dress. Staying in the light color family, lead actress nominee Cate Blan- chett picked an elegant silk Givenchy dress in a pale shade of pink, while “Hateful Eight’s” Jennifer Jason Leigh went for a Roland Mouret bespoke galaxy gown in powder blue. Glittered Many other Globe attendees chose to stand out by way of spar- kle. “Room’s” Brie Larson wore a gold hand-embroidered topaz crystal Calvin Klein gown with sexy cutouts. “American Crime’s” nominee Regina King caught eyes in a caped Krikor Jabotian gown -- which screamed haute couture. Eva Green glittered in gold Elie Saab. And Kate Hudson shimmered and showed a surprising amount of skin in a Michael Kors crop top and mermaid-cut skirt. Pops of color were also a staple on the carpet, by way of lead actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence, who dazzled in a bold Dior design with side cutouts in red -- the color also chosen by “Shame- less” star Emmy Rossum, who wore Armani Privee. Blue-Green jewel tones were seen on stars from Jaimie Alexander to Rachel Bloom to Gina Rodriguez (in a navy princess-y Zac Posen). And both America Ferrera and Jennifer Lopez opted for mustard; the former in a Jenny Packham halter gown, and the latter in boxy and sophisticated Giambattista Valli. “It was so different from anything I’ve done,” stated Lopez, who added even more pizzazz with 200 carats of Harry Winston diamond bling. Gina Rodriguez kicked off the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday in a deep blue princess gown from Zac Posen and America Ferrera lit up in a Jenny Packham canary yellow look with jewels cascading down her open back. Rodriguez brought along her smiling father as she showed off her off-the-shoulder dress paired with Neil Lane diamonds, her hair down and wavy. Bonus. Posen built-in pockets. Ferrera was a standout on the color front at the Beverly Hil- ton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, with others choosing deep greens and whites. She carried off a large bow at the back of the halter style with the ends loose and long. Ferrera opted for a bal- lerina back-do as she clowned and waved for the cameras. Flowing This carpet was “anything goes” for color, but it was Regina King who took fierce to another level in huge, full-on gold sequins with a flowing cape. She was joined on the metallic wow-factor front by Kate Bosworth in sparkly red and silver tones from Dolce & Gabbana. Brie Larson, an up-and-coming fashionista, killed in a gold spar- kler, a custom gown from Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa. It had cutouts at the waist and a sexy rope-style halter. The shade, which sparkled in hand-embroidered crystals, matched her hair color perfectly, which could be why she wore it loose. “I feel like I’m kind of in a hug,” she said of the fit, “like I have Joan of Arc armor on.” Count Laverne Cox among those in white, looking elegant in a custom Elizabeth Kennedy sleeveless- and-backless look with a long train. She wore sexy, soft-pinned curls. Jennifer Lopez — Giambattista Valli 21 ARAB TIMES, TUESDAY, JANUARY 12, 2016
