Sir George Robert Edwards, known as GRE, is the late grandfather of Clair Jeffreys the company founder and

director. He is synonymous with some of Britain’s greatest aviation engineering and design achievements that

include the Bouncing Bomb, Viscount, VC-10 and Concorde.

A 40 year career in aviation began as a junior draughtsman at Vickers Armstrong in Weybridge, Surrey, next to

the Brooklands race circuit. He progressed through the ranks of the drawing and design office before earning

the role of managing director and later chairman of the then recently merged British Aircraft Corporation and

went on to lead the British team Concorde Project.

Recognised worldwide for his outstanding contribution to aviation and regarded as one of the greatest business

men of that era he was knighted in 1957 and awarded the highest honour of the Order of Merit in 1971.

not only was he a genius aircraft engineer and designer but in his spare time he was also

a talented artist and keen cricketer. Having a painting accepted into the Royal Academy

Summer Exhibition to holding the title of President of Surrey County Cricket Club, GRE

was certainly ‘committed’ to everything he touched.

in his legacy GRE Classics carries much of his ‘dnA’ and strong values. from the quality

associated with British craftsmanship and engineering to the importance of art and design

right through to the passion and relentless pursuit for perfection.

Each model tells a story of GRE and holds a connection to a moment in his life. The result

We were invited to Bentley head

office in Crewe to discuss a model

that could proudly carry the Bentley

wings. it was heart-warming to

hear his compliments of the GRE

collection, appreciating the

British-ness, quality, attention to

detail and his genuine fascination

in the story behind the brand.

With Bentley’s input the design

began.
