    INFORMATIONPrefaceDear customer, congratulations on buying your Grundig DECTtelephone and thank you for placing your confidence in us. Thisdevice has been manufactured with the utmost care. If you

    should have difficulties in operating it, we recommend that youconsult this user manual.To operate the device safely and easily, please read the followingsections carefully:

    Application informationThis telephone is to be used for transmitting voice messages viatelephone networks. Any other use is not permitted and isconsidered unfit for the intended use.

    Safety information- Do not install your DECT telephone in a damp environment,such as a bathroom, washroom, kitchen etc, and not within1.50 metres of a source of water or outside. This device isdesigned for use in temperatures of between 5 C and 45 C.

    - Only use the power unit supplied and connect it to the electricitymains in accordance with the installation instructions in this usermanual and the details on the sticker regarding voltage,electrical current and frequency. As a precaution if there is a

    risk of danger, the power plug can be pulled out to disconnectthe 230 volt power supply. Therefore the sockets should benear the device and easily accessible.

    - This device is designed to be used for connecting to the publictelephone network. If problems should arise, contact yournearest specialist dealer. Only use the telephone cable supplied.

    - For safety reasons, never put the handset in the base stationwithout the battery inserted or without the lid on the batterycompartment as this could cause an electric shock.

    - To avoid damaging the handset, only use the rechargeablebattery supplied. The used battery must be disposed of in linewith the recycling regulations in this user manual.

    - Your DECT telephone has a range of approx. 50 metresindoors and up to 300 metres outdoors. The range can beaffected by the proximity of metal objects, such as a televisionand electrical devices.

    - Certain medical equipment and highly-sensitive machines orsecurity systems may be affected by the transmission power ofthe telephone. In these cases we recommend adhering to the

    safety information.- In regions greatly affected by electrical storms we recommend

    that you protect your telephone circuit with a special fixture forexcess voltage.

    BatteriesIf your product contains batteries, they must be disposed of at the

    The productThe crossed out dustbin displayed on the product signifies that itbelongs to the electrical and electronic equipment group. TheEuropean regulations request you to carry out your own selectiverecycling collection at: the sales outlet when you buy a similar new device. the collection points available in your area (recycling centres,

    sorting points, etc).

    INFORMATIONSetting up/rangePlace the base station somewhere central and easily accessiblewhere you want to use it.

    Depending on the ambient conditions, the range can be up toapprox. 300 metres outdoors. It has a range of up to 50 metresindoors depending on the space and structure of the building.The structure of the building can cause signal shadows to occur.This can lead to short interruptions when speaking due to theweak signal.The connection breaks up temporarily when there is insufficientfield strength.Place an anti-slip mat under the base station. The feet on thedevice do not usually leave any undesirable marks behind. Dueto the variety of varnish and polish used on furniture, we cannotcompletely rule out the possibility that marks from the feet of thedevice are left on any surfaces.Grundig does not accept any liability for this type of damage.Operating the base station or charger outside or in areasexposed to frost is not permitted.The recommended ambient temperature for operating the basestation is +5 C +45 C, the recommended relative airhumidity is 20 % to 75 %.

    The installation location must have a mains socket for 230 voltsfor the base station or the charger.

    SET-UPThe NavigatorThis is the quick menu selection device

    Base unit connectionBefore making connections read the safety instructions located atthe start of this booklet.

    Insert the telephone point into its housing at the rear face of thebase unit and connect the other end of the lead to the telephonewall point.

    Connect the end of the mains power unit lead to the rear of thebase unit and the mains power unit to a mains power supply. The

    base will emit an audible tone.

    Pass the wires through the cable guide and place the base in itsdesired location.

    SET-UPInserting batteries in the handsetOpen the battery compartment cover.Place the new batteries in the compartment.Make sure that the polarity is correct!

    Close the compartment.Remove the protective film from the display, place the handset inthe base unit in order to fully charge the batteries.The charging icon is activated on the display and shows you thecharging status. When the icon is full your batteries are fullycharged.

    Worn out batteries must be disposed of in accordance with therecycling instructions given in paragraph Environment of thisbooklet.

    Use only approved rechargeable AAA format NiMH type 1.2 V650 mAh batteries. In order to ensure optimum charging, whenfirst used leave the handset on the base unit for at least 12 hours.

    During charging batteries may become warm. This is quitenormal and is not dangerous.

    Operating time of the batteriesThe operating time of the batteries in standby is up to five daysor up to ten hours for longer calls.

    Service life of the batteriesTo increase the service life of the batteries, note the following:- Do not short-circuit the plug.

    - Use your handset as a mobile phone and do not replace it inthe base station or charger (accessories) to be charged afterevery phone call.

    SET-UPCharging status of the batteryThe charging status of the batteries appears in the display.The number of bars show the charging status of the battery(" " flat, " " charged). When the batteries are almost flat, the

    display back lighting is deactivated and a warning tone isemitted. This also happens if the batteries which are charging areremoved briefly and then replaced. As a rule new batteries onlyattain their full capacity after several charge/discharge cycles.

    Although the battery display shows that the batteries in a handsetare charged, you should take into account that the length ofnormal calls and availability time is limited at the beginning.

    Switching the handset on and offTo switch on your handset press the key.To switch off the handset hold down the key for a period.Your handset is then switched off.

    Selecting the countryAfter inserting the batteries or after you have fully reset thehandset and the base, a menu appears in the display forselecting the country. This is required if a country group consistsof two or more countries. You must also select the networkoperator for the United Kingdom and Ireland.

    1. Select the country with () or () andconfirm with the OK function button on the right.

    Out of rangeWhen the distance between the handset and the base is too

    great, the "Antenna" signal flashes.Move back towards the base unit

    When the "Antenna" symbol stops flashing the link with thebase has been re-established.

    MAKING TELEPHONE CALLSMaking an external callExternal calls are calls made to the public network.

    Enter the number of the person you are calling using the keypad

    and press the key. In the event of an error being made inentering a number, press the key to delete the incorrectnumber.

    If the person you are calling is recorded in the phonebook

    contact list, press the key, select the name of the person

    you are calling then press the key.

    Answering a callwhen a call is received, every handset registered on the base unitwill ring.

    Press the key on one of the handsets to answer the call.

    At the end of the conversation press the to hang up.

    Making an internal callInternal calls are calls between two handsets registered on thesame base unit. Internal calls are not charged for by youroperator.

    Press the INT key, the numbers of handsets registered on thebase unit will appear on the display. Enter the numbercorresponding to the handset that you wish to call.

    At the end of the conversation press the key.

    Using the call logYou can set the call log so that all the calls or missed calls aredisplayed.1. Open the menu by pressing the Menu function button on

    the right.

    2. Select Settings with ( ), ( ), or Ractivate with the OK function button on the right.

    CLI (Caller Line ID) functionBefore using the phone number transfer (CLI), please contact

    your provider to subscribe to Caller Line Identification. This willenable you to receive calls displaying the callers number.There might be a special rate or a fee required for this functionto be enabled.If the callers phone number is in the phone book, the name ofthe caller is displayed as well as the number.If the caller has suppressed or not activated the CLI function,Unknown appears.

    Managing calls whilst communication isunderwayThis function is available if your installation is made up of at leasttwo handsets registered on the same base unit.

    Transfering a call to another handsetThis function allows you to transfer the call that is in progress toanother handset registered on the same base unit.Keep the INT pressed, the external call is put on hold, select thehandset to which you want to transfer the call.

    When the handset being called is picked up, press the Option,key, select Call Transfer.Remark: if the handset called does not answer, you can

    recover the call, Keep pressing the INT key.Switching between an external and internal callKeep the INT key pressed, the external call is put on hold, selectthe handset to which you want to transfer the call.

    When the handset being called is picked up, press the Option,key, select Switch Calls.

    MAKING TELEPHONE CALLSSetting up a three party conference callKeep the INT pressed, the external call is put on hold, select thehandset to which you want to transfer the call.

    When the handset being called is picked up, press the Option,key, select Conference.You can revert to a communication between two parties for bothinternal and external calls. During a conference press theOption key.Select Switch to Ext to talk to the external caller.Select Switch to Int to talk to the internal caller.Locking the handset keypadKeep the * key pressed until the icon is shown on thedisplay.

    To unlock the keypad keep the * key pressed until the icon disappears from the display.

    Using in hands-free modeHands-free mode allows you to hold a dialogue with your callerwithout holding the handset. It also allows other persons presentin the room to hear the conversation.

    Press the key, the icon appears on the display. Dialthe number of the person you are calling.

    When a call is received, press the key. Hands-free mode isthen activated.

    Setting the volumethis function allows you to set the listening volume during aconversation.

    Press the or keys to increase or reduce the listeningvolume. You can set the volume to a level from 1 to 5.

    The volume level selected is shown on the display.

    Remark: this function is also available in hands-free mode.

    MAKING TELEPHONE CALLSSecret modeThis function enables you to activate or deactivate the handsetmicrophone during a call. You can therefore allow your caller tohear or prevent your caller from hearing what you are saying.

    Press the key, the person on the line cannot then hear whatyou are saying.

    To deactivate secret mode press the , key. The person onthe line can now hear what you are saying.

    Calling back if busyIf the number of the caller is busy, you can activate the redial.

    When the line is free, your handset gives a ring tone.1. Remove the handset from the base station.

    When the setting is activated, the call is takenautomatically,

    or

    press if the handset is not in the base station.

    SMS SERVICESYou telephone allows you to send, receive and monitor SMSmessages (known as mini-messages) which are sent to anothertelephone equipped with an SMS function.

    The SMS send and receive functions available in your telephonewill only operate if you have taken out an appropriatesubscription with your operator.

    Sending a messagethis function allows you to draft a message and send it to theperson you are calling.

    Go to Menu / SMS / Write.Enter the message text by pressing the appropriate keys in order:

    Remark: In the event of an error during entry, the last lettercan be deleted by pressing the key.Briefly touching the # key allows you to selectcapital or small characters.

    When you have finished an entry, press the OK key.Enter the number of the person to receive the message or selectthe number from the phonebook, then press the OK key.Select Send SMS to send the SMS or Save SMS to store it inthe Draft box.

    PHONEBOOKYou can store up to 100 contacts in your phonebook.

    Each entry can contain the name of your contact as12 characters (including spaces) and their telephone number as

    24 numbers.

    You can associate a different ring with each entry and so createyour own call groups.

    Adding a phonebook entryYou can enter names and call numbers manually or add contactsfrom the received call log or from the bis function.

    Manually adding a phonebook entryGo to Menu / Phonebook / Option, (you can access thephonebook directly by pressing the key).

    Select New Entry. Enter the contact name and number usingthe keypad.

    PHONEBOOKViewing a phonebook entryThis function allows you to view the data for your contact.

    Go to Menu / Phonebook / Option, (you can access thephonebook directly by pressing the key).Select View Entry.

    The display will show the name, number and melody assigned toyour contact.

    Editing a phonebook entryThe function allows you to modify the name, number and melodyassigned to your contact.

    Go to Menu / Phonebook / Option, (you can directlyaccess the phonebook by pressing the key).

    Select Edit Entry.

    Use the key to make changes.

    Confirm using the OK key.

    Deleting a phonebook entryGo to Menu / Phonebook / Option, (you can access thephonebook directly by pressing the key).

    Select Delete Entry.Confirm using the OK key.

    An audible tone shows that the phonebook entry is deleted fromthe list of contacts.

    PHONEBOOKDeleting the entire phonebookThis function allows you to delete all the entries in yourphonebook.

    Go to Menu / Phonebook / Option / Delete all.Confirm using the OK key.

    Transferring a phonebook entryThis function allows you to transfer your contacts to anotherhandset registered on the same base unit.

    Go to Menu / Phonebook / Option / PB transfer.Select the handset to which you want the phonebook entrytransferred, press the OK keyPress the Accept key on the handset selected to receive all thephonebook entries from handset 1. Press the Abort key of thehandset 1 or Reject key of the selected handset to interrupttransfer of the phonebook.

    Quick callThis function allows you to assign a keypad shortcut to a contactfrom your phonebook.Go to Menu / Phonebook.Select the contact to whom you wish to assign a keypad shortcut.

    Go to the Option / Quick Dial menu. Enter the keypad keythat you wish to assign to your contact (1~9).

    Press the OK key to confirm.To call your contact, keep the key that you have assigned to themdepressed (1~9), your contact's name and number will appear

    on the display.

    Delay before the answering machine is switched onThis setting is used to specify the number of times your telephone

    rings before your answering machine is switched on. The numberof rings can be between 2 and 9 and you can also selectAutomatic mode.Automatic mode will automatically determine the number ofrings, depending on the number of messages stored in theanswering machine.

    ANSWERING MACHINECall filteringWhen activated the filtering function allows you to monitor themessage being left by the caller as it is being recorded. You canpick up the phone to take the call at any time.

    To filter incoming calls you can allow callers to start recordingtheir message (in order to identify the caller), then pick up the
