Configuring Cisco Multimode G.SHDSLEFM/ATM in Cisco ISR G2

    OL-24505-04

    Last Updated: October 14, 2013

This document describes how to configure Cisco G.SHDSL Ethernet in the first mile (EFM) andAsynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM Enhanced high-speed WAN interf

card (EHWIC) connect Cisco Integrated Services Routers Generation 2 (ISR G2s) with central offic

Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) and provide up to four lines of G.SHDSL

(ITU-T 991.2) connectivity. The C888EA provides four pairs of multimode G.SHDSL connectivity

There is one EHWIC model and one fixed platform model:

    EHWIC-4SHDSL-EAA double-wide multimode EHWIC G.SHDSL, 4 pair, 802.3ah, EFM an

    ATM mode interface card

Prerequisites for Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs Ensure that you have the appropriate Cisco router to serve as the host router.

The following Cisco routers support Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs:

    Cisco 1921 ISR

    Cisco 1941 ISR

    Cisco 2901 ISR

    Cisco 2911 ISR

    Cisco 2921 ISR

Cisco 2951 ISR Cisco 3925 ISR

    Cisco 3925-E ISR

    Cisco 3945 ISR

    Cisco 3945-E ISR

Use the show versioncommand to ensure that the router is running the correct IOS software. The

C888EA and EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA models require Cisco IOS Release Release: or later.

Note When minimum release requirements are met, you can change images on the router without

    affecting performance.

Install the Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWIC on the router, using the directions provided in Cisco

Interface Cards Hardware Installation Guide and Cisco Network Modules and Interface Cards

    Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information.

Information About Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATMCisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs support up to four pairs of digital subscriber lines (DSL). The

fixed platform model (C888EA) also supports up to four pairs. The DSL pairs are bundled in groups and

configured in the Cisco IOS command-line interface (CLI) by using the dsl-groupcommand. Selecting

the mode is done by using the modecommand.

See the Command Reference section on page 49for more information about commands used with

    Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM.

    Selects the mode.

    Step 3 dsl-groupDSL_group_numberpairslink-number

    Example:

Configuring Bonding Groups in ATM Mode

Use the Cisco IOS CLI on the router in global configuration mode to configure bonding groups in t

ATM mode on the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, or on the C888EA. There are two types of bondinggroups possible in ATM mode: M-pair and IMA.

Note To ensure a successful bonding group in the ATM mode configuration, confirm that the central offic

(CO) network equipment that is connected with the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA is also configured w

    the same bonding group type.

Note For EHWICs, use the three-tuple notation (slot number/subslot number/0). For fixed platforms, use

    single-tuple notation (slot number).

    DETAILED STEPS

    Examples

The examples in this section show how to configure bonding groups in the ATM mode on the Cisco

EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, or on the C888EA. The examples include:

Configuring an M-pair bonding DSL group on a Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA

Configuring an M-pair bonding DSL group on a C888EA

    Command Purpose

    Step 1 For EHWICs:

    controller shdsl slot number/subslot number/0

    Example:

    Router(config)# controller shdsl 0/2/0

    Router(config-controller)#

    For C888EA fixed platform:

    controller shdsl slot number

    Example:

    Router (config)# controller shdsl 0Router (config-controller)#

Selects the controller and enters config-controller

    mode.

See the controller shdsl section on page 68formore information.

    Step 2 mode atm

    Example:

    Router(config-controller)#mode atmRouter(config-controller)#

    Selects the ATM mode.

    Step 3 For M-pair:

    dsl-group DSL_group_numberpairslinkm-pair

    Example:

    Router(config-controller)# dsl-group 0 pairs 0-1

    m-pair

    Router(config-controller-dsl-group)#

    For IMA:

    dsl-group DSL_group_numberpairslinkima

    Example:

    Router(config-controller)# dsl-group 0 pairs 0-1ima

    Router(config-controller-dsl-group)#

    For M-pair:

Creates an M-pair bonding DSL group and

    enters config-controller-dsl-group mode.

    For IMA:

Creates an IMA DSL group and enters

    config-controller-dsl-group mode.

See the dsl-group section on page 70for

    more information.

    Step 4 shdsl rate{number | auto}

    Example:

Configuring Auto Groups in ATM Mode

Use the Cisco IOS CLI on the host router in global configuration mode to configure auto groups in the

ATM mode on the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, or on the C888EA.

Note For IMA configurations, do not use dsl-group auto. Instead, use manual IMA configuration. For more

information, see the IMA example in the Configuring Bonding Groups in ATM Mode section on

    page 19.

Note For EHWICs, use the three-tuple notation (slot number/subslot number/0). For fixed platforms, use the

    Configuring an EFM-Bonding Group

Use the Cisco IOS CLI on the router in global configuration mode to configure an EFM-bonding gro

    on the Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM.

Note To ensure a successful EFM-bonding group configuration, confirm that the central office (CO) netw

equipment that is connected with the Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM is configured for EFM-bonding.

Note For EHWICs, use the three-tuple notation (slot number/subslot number/0). For fixed platforms, use

    single-tuple notation (slot number).
