Scenic spots Shamian Island 沙面

Shamian, is an elliptic sandbar in the Liwan Districtof Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The island'sname literally means "sandy surface" in Chinese.Surrounded by water, it is just like a giant ship mooringalongside the wharf. Get further and one will find that theisland is carefully planned. Three east-west avenues,Shamian Avenue, Shamian North Avenue and the SouthAvenue, and five north-south streets, Shamian Street 1 tothe Street 5 divide the whole area into 12 parts, withvarious buildings, namely White Swan Hotel, ShamianHotel, and Poland Consulate in Guangzhou, scatteredaround.

Shamian is a good place for a stroll. As it is just900m long from east to west and 300m from south tonorth, one will not feel tired even after walking aroundthe island twice. Due to traffic control on the island, itshowcases a different atmosphere and pace of living.Problems such as traffic jams and exhaust gas pollutiondon't exist here.
