Due to the nature of diabetes, some of these conditions can progress to their most severe forms, causing vision loss and may be irreversible. There are different types of treatment for all these conditions, if they are diagnosed at the early stages.
Every diabetic person should have their eyes examined frequently, even if there is no discomfort, because many of these conditions can develop and progress without causing any symptoms.

Es fácil entender como Ariana Pizzatti, Directora de Mercadeo de Ecofiltro, quien conoce la realidad del estado del agua en Guatemala, quiso hacer algo al respecto. Decidió entonces organizar una carrera que le permitiera recaudar fondos para poder comprar Ecofiltros y donarlos a escuelas. Ella sabe gracias a su trabajo que Ecofiltro es una de las mejores opciones para purificar el agua que existen hoy en día.
Ariana decidió correr desde donde se fabrican los Ecofiltros (en San Lorenzo El
Cubo, Sacatepéquez) hacia Panajachel, Sololá, donde fue inventado. El alero perfecto se sumó al proyecto: Nelo Mijangos, fotógrafo y amante de las causas nobles, quien comparte con Ariana el amor por el ejercicio y especialmente por correr. El decidió aceptar el reto.
Juntos corrieron 113 kilómetros, desde las 3:30 AM – para avanzar lo más posible antes que amaneciera – hasta llegar finalmente a Panajachel a las 7:30 PM. Durante todo el trayecto, lleno de retos, la meta siempre estuvo clara: reunir lo suficiente como para brindar 500 Ecofiltros a las escuelas de niños en comunidades rurales de Alta y Baja Verapaz, Sololá, Suchitepéquez y Escuintla, para que los niños tengan una oportunidad de conservar su salud que resulta en una oportunidad de vida. Además, esto ayuda a Ecofiltro con la meta que se han impuesto de llegar a un millón de familias antes del año 2020 para que todas tengan agua potable, limpia y segura..

Nearly 90 percent of Guatemala’s water is contaminated. The time when
you could drink the water directly from rivers or springs has long since passed, and today, gastrointestinal diseases claim an alarming number of lives, especially children’s lives. One in twenty children will die before their fifth birthday due to complications from drinking unsafe water.
It’s easy to understand how Ariana Pizzatti, Marketing Director at Ecofiltro, someone who knows the reality of the state of water in Guatemala, wanted to do something about it. She decided to organize a run that would allow her to raise funds to buy Ecofiltros and donate them to schools. Thanks to her work at Ecofiltro, she knows that it’s one of the best options for purifying water that exist today.
Ariana decided to run from where Ecofiltros are manufactured (in San Lorenzo El Cubo, Sacatepéquez) to Panajachel, Sololá, where it was
invented. The perfect wingman joined the project: Nelo Mijangos, photographer and lover of noble causes, who along with Ariana shares a love of exercise and especially of running. He decided to accept the challenge.
Together they ran 113 kilometers, starting at 3:30 AM – to get a head start before dawn – until they finally reached Panajachel at 7:30 PM. Throughout their journey, which was full of challenges, the goal was always clear: to raise enough funds to provide 500 Ecofiltros to children’s schools in rural communities of Alta and Baja Verapaz, Sololá, Suchitepéquez and Escuintla, so that the kids would have the opportunity to stay healthy and the chance for lifetime success. In addition, this helps with Ecofiltro’s own goal to reach one million families by 2020, so that everyone has clean and safe drinking water..
