Abstract:

The object of my search was to reconcile the two functions - the rest and

work space. The main idea of the project was to enrich the features of

the old building with a new functional space corresponding to the needs

of users. The search function started from the analysis of the place of the

formation(resort). The aim was to create a place that attracts not only

the tourist during the high season but also the community of the city.

The project was about to create places of coworking and independent

work. The result is space of rest and space which is based on informal

communication of coworking.

Guesthouse as coworking space

The existing building built in 70's obviously did not meet the basic

functional needs. Although the solid seems to be expanded area was not

sufficient, and the space wasn't rationally planed.

After determining the maximum potential I reduced unnecessary

elements of the existing building. This activity was inspired by the work

of Gordon Matta-Clarck. The old structure of the cuts varies

dramatically. This comes along with "re-use of existing components in a

new composition." Cut highlights the structure and reveals it. It

changes the way of light penetration. These elements have remained a

frame for added space. Building tightly fills the maximum possible area

of development. The space has been divided into three zones, two

major: coworking space, pension and a third combining the needs of

both.

The combination of both in one building creates new opportunities to

visitors but also the local community. Coworking allows you to interact,

exchange ideas and experiences, creates new opportunities for

collaboration and analysis. Those who are staying in the pension can

focus on work and gaining inspiration in a new environment. People

from outside are likely to meet in an atmosphere conducive to creative

work. Coworking is an alternative for people who no longer want to work

in a home or a cafe. The combination of pension and coworking space is

ideal for supporting the establishment of cooperation between the other

branches without opening new ones. A meeting of representatives of

various professions is stimulating experience for people who share

similar values and beliefs.

Three zones have been divided into functions, and compared to the

forest floor. Each of these changes along with the change of traffic and

interaction.

The first zone is a coworking zone - a common space where interaction is

highly focused. This is a place for exchanging ideas and hard work.

That's why I compared it to the ant colony algorithm.

Communication is a large part of the surface, it is not disturbed.

Openness and central position is justified by the heuristics (heuristics

broadly is the name of the field of knowledge, whose goal is the

exploration and study of optimal methods and rules of finding answers

to your questions or problems) ant colony optimization algorithm. What

is meant by a solution to a problem is not based on proven mathematical

algorithm, but the imitation of natural phenomena. Worker leaves the

anthill in search of food does not have knowledge about the surrounding

world. Her senses engulfed a small area around the current position.

Part of formic algorithm, mimics the "propagation" of ants around a

nest. In contrast to the natural action of formic ants in the algorithm is

iterative. At each iteration, each ant generates a complete solution.

Generates is a key term, because the ant will move through the solution

space in a way that takes into account the random factors. If each of the

persons is a "virtual ant" multiplicity of solutions is infinite movement.

If we take both a repeatable behavior in ants (pheromone trail) as

humans we find a pattern of behavior.) Against the background of this

pattern formed "belts" completely free of traffic "obstacles" in the zone I,

however, each person has complete freedom of movement.

The central location of open communication helps minimize barriers. At

the same time this area can be characterized as a space of integration

and learning. Common table facilitates cooperation and networking is a

symbolic space, a place of unification. Here are the "events",

multimedia presentations and meetings. Colors and lighting enhances

the energy and positive emotions.

Coworking multiply synergy effect that is amplifying the effect of the

organizational action, it gives much better results by cooperation and

synchronization activities. Teamwork gives much better results than the

sum of the effects of individual work. As a result of the effect of

organizational synergy is created which is an average surplus of benefits

attributable to the team member cooperating with other people, in

comparison to the benefit possible to achieve in an individual action.

The second zone is one that combines his own work and relax.

Interaction is distributed, here are the "boxes", which allow separation

and isolation from the hustle and bustle of the first zone. User traffic is

shifted and partially isolated. In this zone, there are collections of media

library, and a place to use them. The light is different depending on

whether it is a box, traffic zone, or library. The space is divided

that promotes isolation and contemplation.

Comparison to the third zone is the III zone -pension. The dying

interaction allows to calm down and rest. Communication is situated on

the side. The space is clearly divided and intimate. The light is delicate

and speeded through the facade . The private part is moved away from

open communication, however you can get it in two ways - the first is the

ability to communicate using outside stairs to ensure the highest degree

of isolation, the second way allows the gradual disappearance of the

interaction.

The remains of a building from the 70's are the two northern and

eastern facades. The lowest floor first with a small amount has been

deepened. The southern wall due to the close proximity of residential

buildings is a blank wall. Two elevations were "wrapped" with the new

facade. The use of glass panes does not lead to an additional burden on

the design object at the same time giving the impression of lightness.

Dual elevation of the building allows for significant savings of thermal

energy. The open portion of the work through the double facade is well

lit and ventilated. Openwork structure is not only part of construction

but also a decorative design , in line with the arboreal architecture.

External staircase refers to XIX century American architecture .

Boxes was designated in place that formerly where occupied by

balconies. This solution makes the amount of daylight is optimal to

work.

The main issue was to create solution in which each resident can take

full advantage of the opportunities offered by the building. The space

was to be flexible and at the same time allow taking advantages

of individual work and collaboration. Proceeded to work faster and

better should be organized according to individual needs. Space for

independent work and team work (projects, presentations, conferences)

- the distinction between the degree of interaction creates the types of

activities to support organizational systems respectively.

The property offers an optimum solution for the functional hard to

separate work and relaxation from those who cannot find a mobilization

in the environment in which they live. At the same time it gives the

possibility of socialization and the development of the local community

which can not find the optimum operating conditions in the town,

however, focused on tourism.
