The first gallery is open and it is harmonized by the powerful sound of a cascade, when you are incorporating to the cave’s fossil arm (a dried branching), the night exerts its dominion. you can find at the first path, candles and copal with incen-se which people leave at this mystic place; for the Zoques (Indigenous Ethnicity), the candles lighten the night the same way the stars do and the fumes join the prayers to the lord of the Mount. you will hear these and other fantastic stories from the voice of the expert guides at Petra vertical; gui-des that will trace the rout, taking care of your safety and exploiting fun at its best.
Scaling, climbing and walking over big rocks you can do an intrepid tour where you will be amazed with the great for-mations of lime stones, stalagmites, stalac-tites and mystery scenarios carved by the water. living this adventure full of adrena-line is like submerging into jules verne’s “A journey to the Centre of the Earth”. without feeling that the time goes by, you will arrive to the last part of the climbing at 150 me-ters over the sea level, which is known as Pachamama (Mother Earth for the Andean Peoples) due to its characteristic shape.
when leaving the Earth’s womb, you arrive to a balcony that leads you to the falcon’s hall and from there you can feel the immensity of the gallery, covered by a mantle of darkness, where the roaring of the water intensifies, accelerating the hearts. you’ll have to do a 12 meter rappel in order to reach the bottom of the hall where you come across with the cold snake that crawls on the bowels of the Earth. Through 300 meters of tour you will be able to ob-serve the endemic fauna (crabs, bats and arachnids) and at a little resting area you will recover energy with a delicious snack.

After that there are two more ponds (one is 8 meters and the other 3 meters) where you will have the option of jumping into the void, rappel descending or sliding on a rock, all depending on your adventure desires. In the middle of the darkness the power-ful sound of the water is impressive. If you want to experience an extraor-dinary adventure, this rout is for you! After finishing the rout you will find a pond from which you leave by swimming under a waterfall; the rocky formation that is next to it is ideal for you to take a memory picture of your intrepid journey through the mountain. The underground river continues its riverbed that is why fun does not stop; you will do another long rappel, you will swim some me-ters and you will arrive to a natural swing area. Today Petra vertial’s friends provide you with the possibi-lity of enjoying the charms of these wonderful and secret sceneries. HIERROfORJADO

rought Iron is an art dating in Mexico since the colonial times.. It is a technique introduced by Spaniards that in the hands of
their magnificent teachers creates enigmatic and fabulous pieces of art.
In the city of San Cristobal de las Casas the neighborhood El Cerrillo (the little hill) is located; it was established in 1549. It is famous for its wrought Iron activity; greatly illuminated characters of this craft left a great history that is told behind each cross, cand-lestick, rack and other majestic works. born among these cradle of blacksmiths, the ar-tisan Arisel flores ballinas has the gift in his blood.
This master of the hammer and the anvil began learning the art of wrought Iron at age 17 and with almost 7 decades of experience has left great contributions in this matter. The experience and hard work result in enigmatic figures that sprout from his ima-gination.
Metal is reborn as the Phoenix at his craft workshop or forge where in a bon-fire the iron is placed on burning coal, until it turns red hot. He holds the pieces of iron with tweezers then he molds the pieces that will form a true work of art. with great ability, spe-ed and good accuracy he gives the exact blows with the hammer, in order to harden the metal later at cooling it.
The plate’s ornaments are drawn and cut with scissors; with 10 chisels of di-fferent sizes and shapes that carve the fac-tions of each element of the piece that will

decorate some home. The color is given by placing them on fire during long and precise periods of time, according with the tones that the artist wants to obtain. During this process the master uses his secrets so that the figures take mythical colors that are unmatched. At the end the base and the or-naments are joined with rivets.
This is how pieces such as “El Arbol de la vida” (The Tree of life) with a height over 2 meters, “la Cruz de Cristo” (The Cross of Christ), candlesticks, racks, door locks and everything you can imagine in metal are born. The pieces are made in different shapes and sizes, each one with its own meaning. As an example “The Tree of life” with its different elements (Adam and Eve, the apple, the snake, the hum-mingbird, Quetzales and more) exemplifies life’s genesis. In The Cross of Christ the Crucifixion is recreated: the dove represents the Holy Spirit, the roses mean the love to Christ; It has also has the rooster that crowed to Saint Peter, the heart of Christ, the spear and the latter which was used to take down God’s Son from the cross.

t the top of a hill in the east side of the city of San Cristobal de las Ca-sas, the imposing Guadalupe’s temple stands, it is located at the
homonym neighborhood, it is a beautiful buil-ding from the XIX century.
Since the establishment of the city under the name of villa Real (Royal villa) back in 1528, by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, it was settled on the Minutes of Council by the notary Geronimo de Caceres, the building of a gallows to enforce justice at the hill located
on the east side of the city, precisely where the Guada-lupe virgin’s Temple stands today.
G u a d a l u p e ’ s neighborhood arises as an extension of the Cerrillo’s (little Hill) neighborhood (es-tablished in the year 1550) and its origin as it is goes back just to the first half of the XIX century, whose most notorious settlements began between the years of 1845 and 1870.
Meanwhile the church which we can admi-re today at the top of the “Tepeyac” (the given name of the hill where the church stands) was built in the year 1835, substituting a small her-mitage that was built 3 years before. This tem-ple initially was very isolated from downtown in such a way that in the year 1866 it was the scene of violent confrontations in the so ca-lled the fight against reelection.
Of neoclassic style its architecture was enhanced around 1854, being the bishop
Carlos Maria Colina y Rubio who received the Order of Commander of Guadalupe by the then President Antonio lopez de San-ta Anna. It has an Arch door of half point; a choir window, it was built in one single buil-ding; it has also a side chapel in which with candles of different colors our brothers the indigenous natives place their faith with great fervor.
Inside an altar was conditioned to worship the donated image by Major Canon of the Cathedral, Don lino Garcia around the year
1850. Until the year 1898, the church remained without many arrangements, ex-cept for some rustic steps the allowed a more comfor-table access to its interior.
This neighborhood deve-loped at the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX the wooden toy industry, the candles y and the elaboration of selected candy such as the Confi-tes (a paste made of sugar shaped in small balls). To-day its inhabitants are the ones guard this beautiful architectonic jewl and they
give life to the fair that is held in honor of their Holy Mother in December.
In order to get to this temple you have to do a 79 step ascent, in front of the main door you have a great panoramic of the valley, at the bottom there is a beautiful small square. Get to know this Magic Town’s faith and get amaized with its architecture.

Osumacinta has its charms and this place is one of them. Open your senses and listen to the birds singing and the crickets doing choir with the hoot of the wind between the leaves. It is the ideal place to take a good and well-deserved rest or if you want to begin the adventure you may do the boating tour-through the emblematic Sumidero Cannon just by asking with the restaurant owner.
Chipas’ land is magic; to find re-laxation and fun you just have to let yourself be bewitched by its beauties.

Atención a visitantes

mmersed between virtuous vegetation and in one of the privileged areas of the city, due to its views, stands the imposing Chiapas Museum of Science and Tech-
nology. This sentinel of the valley of the Sabi-nes, houses the latest technology; it is pheno-menal that in a fun and practical way it brings
near to it the biggest advances in scien-ce to all visitors.
In your jour-ney through the halls, you will get to know what science and technology is, and how they ex-plain and transform everything that happens around you. An example of this is the tech-nology developed since ancient times that lets you en-
joy drinking a typical Pozol (a cool beverage made of Cocoa and Corn dough) or the latest one the possibility of calling a friend. Chiapas Museum of Science and Technology, is better known by its acronym as MUCH; it belongs to the Council of Science and Technology of Chiapas (COCyTECH), a body that promotes these two great concepts in the state. It has great architecture, which makes the simple walk through the halls and gardens a plea-sant experience.
Three rooms are the ones that give life to this enclosure of knowledge and fun. The first one is the Earth and Universe hall; through interactive games you will get to know the cosmos, the mysteries of matter and the secrets of the planets. In addition and using models you will learn about the inner operation of the Earth. Telescopes, space

Mokaya (word that in the Mixe-Zoque lan-guage means “people of corn”), domestica-ted the grain of life in Pacific Ocean coasts of Chiapas.
