Hanlon's razoris an eponymous adagethat allows the elimination of

unlikely explanations for a phenomenon. It reads:

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

This particular form is attributed to a Robert J. Hanlon. However earlier

utterances that convey the same basic idea are known.
