Academic Projects:
Mini project: ‘Heat treatment of alloy steels’
Auto India, Hyderabad, India. Winter 2015
● The objective of the research is to study heat treating of different types of alloy steels with various heat
treatment processes to alter physical and chemical properties.
● Different steels used in the study are low carbon and medium carbon steels. And heat treat processes used
are like Annealing, Tempering, Hardening and Normalizing.
● Some of conclusions observed are causes relief of internal stresses developed during cold working,
welding, casting, forging etc, harden and strengthen metals, Improve ductility and toughness.
Senior design: ‘Effect of Temperature and Strain Rate on Mechanical Properties of Nimonic C-263 alloy’.
Defence Research and Development Organisation, Hyderabad, India Winter 2016
● The objective of this research is to study the effect on mechanical properties of nimonic C-263 superalloy
and check its tensile properties and tensile deformation behavior at different temperatures and varying
strain rates.
● The Nimonic C-263 bar is cut into 5 specimens by using EDM wire cut and is then subjected to heat
treatment. After the samples are solutionized and aged, they are subjected to mounting .
● Then, grain size measurement is carried out with the help of optical microscope by using Henys Intercept
method.
● The hardness of the solutionized and aged samples are carried out by using Vickers Hardness Tester.
● The above heat treated specimen are subjected to tensile test with the help of high temperature tensile test
machine and the SEM analysis is done by taking the fractured tensile test specimen.
● The tensile strength of the alloy is found to be higher when tested at a strain rate 10-2s-1 than 10-4s-1.
● Grain size measurement is found to be 223+40 or 223-40 microns.
● Combination of cleavage and intergranular fracture has occurred at all temperatures and both the strain
rates.
Composite Laminate Design for Wind Turbine
Wayne State University Fall 2016
Developed composite laminate for a blade of wind turbine with a flexibility in material selection, type of
forces on a MATLAB software.
Simulated the laminate using MATLAB code to find various stresses and strains on it.
Predicted the possibility of laminate failure by TSAI-HILL, Maximum Stress and Maximum Strain failure
theories and drafted the graph of laminate behavior.
