The Next Generation of Pros Is the golf world ready for a Tigerless leaderboard? The first decade of the new millennium featured some of the strongest golfers that the PGA and LPGA Tours have ever known. Tiger Woods dominated the PGA TOUR. When Woods entered an event, it seemed the rest of the field was playing

for second. Fans enjoyed watching Woods’ mastery, and when he was not competing on Sunday, television ratings slumped. Is there anyone ready to fill the void?

MEn’S DIvISIOnThere are several players on the PGA TOUR who are just waiting for their turn to shine. PGA TOUR Commissioner, Tim Finchem, recently commented, “I think the takeaway on the competition side of 2010, more than anything else, was the tremendous interest in young players coming up. I’ve never in my tenure seen so much buzz and interest about rookies and young players creating exciting performances.” Finchem continued, “Actually, it has led us to conclude that we really need to focus on that dynamic as we go into 2011.”

LADIES DIvISIOnAccording to Lisa Mickey, Communications Manager for the LPGA Tour and the LPGA Future Tour, “I would watch Futures Tour Player of the Year, Cindy LaCross. In her second year as a pro, she won three times.” Mickey added, “Cindy is not flashy, but steady. If she continues to get physically stronger, she can be a top player on the LPGA Tour.”

Put the milk and cinnamon stick together in a small saucepan and warm over medium heat until the milk is almost

boiling. Place the pan aside. Bring a small pan of water to a simmer. Break the chocolate into a small bowl and place

it over the simmering water, making sure that the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Turn the heat off and

leave the bowl for 15 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely melted. Remove the bowl from the pan and allow it

hether training for a triathlon or dieting to improve health,

gym equipment is an essential tool for enhancing strength and speed, and attaining a leaner, tighter body. Even the most dedicated gym-goers, however, can find workout routines repetitive, so it’s lucky that fitness equipment is evolving by leaps and bounds. Here are five devices to shake up the monotony for people at all levels of fitness. 1. Functional Weight Training Machines. “Functional training” is a dominant trend in the worlds of fitness and health. Designed to prepare the body for real-world experiences – from hoisting bags of groceries to throwing Frisbees – new functional weight training machines offer an exercise system that recruits all major muscle groups on multiple planes of movement. Unlike standard training machines which focus on a single muscle group by limiting range of reach, functional training machines operate on free-motion cable systems that force the user to engage

stabilizers and peripheral muscles in order to control the range of movement. 2. Indo-Row Machines. Along with swimming, rowing is the most efficient workout in existence for whole-body toning, while getting an intense non-impact cardio burn. Pro athletes have cross-trained on rowing machines for decades, and now the Indo-Row Machine offers an enhanced exercise experience for people at all levels of fitness. Traditional rowing machines use air to create resistance, but this late and great invention uses water resistance to give users an ultra-smooth stroke in concert with the sound of waves surging against the machine’s clear spherical well. But don’t be lulled by the peaceful sound of the ocean and the machine’s modern design. The Indo-Row workout is killer.3. Vibration Platforms. Physical therapists and pro-athlete coaches have used these workout accelerators for years and now they’re becoming available at gyms across the nation. These small raised platforms provide a non-impact workout that will increase core strength, tone

muscle, and correct posture by shaking the body twenty to fifty times a second. Available extras include retractable cables for a simultaneous upper-body workout and virtual coaching programs. The jury is still out on which model works best, but vibration platforms are guaranteed to cut your workout time in half with optimal results.4. Electricity-free Treadmills. Runners have long accused treadmills of doing half the workout for them, but the world’s first truly “green” treadmills are powered by nothing except the person using them. Perfect for advanced athletes who need to meet endurance goals while working out indoors, these unplugged treadmills are comprised of individual rubber slats which move on a low-friction ball-bearing track. As the runner moves, the track turns, and the world breathes a little easier as gyms everywhere take a step forward in becoming truly unplugged.5. New Generation Kettlebells. These stone-age looking devices resemble cannonballs with a handle, and got their start as a weight loss system for Russian men in the 1600s. now popular at gyms and in homes across the U.S., kettlebells have taken a leap forward with new models that can be customized for all fitness levels. Hollow models weighing only two pounds can be filled with water (12 pounds), sand (18 pounds), or metal shot (49 pounds), depending on the strength and purpose of the user. no matter what’s in your kettlebell, correct technique is key for an efficient and safe workout. Once movement and form are mastered, kettlebells will burn multiple muscle groups at one time for whole-body conditioning, and give users a stellar aerobic experience. After all, four centuries worth of Russian athletes can’t be wrong.

Psychology of the Serve Mastering the Mind Game of Tennis Why do the fittest, strongest, and most technically proficient tennis players lose the game to less-skilled opponents? The

answer is simple. Tennis, more than many other sports, is a game played as much in the head as on the court. This can be said of many other sports, but the psychological dimension of tennis is notably pronounced because it’s a game of tiny margins. The difference between a winning forehand and one that soars over the baseline is miniscule:

a racquet that’s tilted a millimeter askew or timing that is a nanosecond too soon will cause the ball

to fly long. As a result, tennis players rely disproportionately on the power of their mental state in order to become victorious. Many new pro tennis coaches argue that when the player’s psychological game is in place, everything else will follow. All tennis champions must have an

enormous psychological ability to withstand stress over long periods of time. Only the greatest can withstand this pressure for years on end. Without the psychological ability to tune out the world around the court, visualize the perfect serve, and believe that one will be victorious, none of the tennis greats would have ascended beyond the ranks of the tennis “goods.” Players at all levels, from amateur beginners to rising stars on the pro circuit, will need to master some degree of these psychological skills to win. Tennis may be a physically demanding game played on a court, but it is truly a game of the mind as well. HG

The State of real Estate

anuary home sales in Tampa Bay were up 14.3% over last year, but Hunter’s Green trounced that number, bringing in

50% more sales in this January than last. Granted, only 6 homes sold in Hunter’s Green last month, but with all the negative real estate numbers we’ve been seeing lately, we’ll take all the good news we can get!

But unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. Of the 6 home sales in January, only one was a single family home. The rest were condos. The median sold price per square foot of single family homes fell 19.8% from $95/sq.ft to $76/sq.ft. Given that the median home size of single family home sales last year was 2,442 sq.ft last year, that means the median home in Hunter’s Green is worth right around $186,000 based on January sales.

The cause of the problem continues to be distressed sales. All sales in January 2011 were either foreclosures or Short Sales – “distressed sales”.

When we looked at the last 12 months, home sales in Hunter’s Green have been pretty flat – hovering around 4 homes per month and even spiking to 9 sales back in June, when the home buyer tax credit was in full swing. Flat is better than declining.

The median sold price per sq.ft in 2010 was $97; it spiked to $118 per sq.ft back in October. So don’t get too depressed just because January was a bad month – the picture for 2010 didn’t look quite as dire.

Still, the trends aren’t super-favorable. Foreclosures or Short Sales accounted for 33% of Hunter’s Green properties last year, and the median distressed sale price was $86/sq.ft. That’s just over 11% below the median conventional sales price.

So here’s the message: Unless your fellow Hunter’s Green home owners stop short-selling their properties or losing their homes to foreclosure, it’s going to be impossible for sale prices to hold their ground.

Arlene Wells will be honored as the artist of the month for March, 2011. During the month of March, the new Tampa Regional Library, 10001 Cross Creek Blvd., will display artworks created by Arlene Wells.

Arlene has traveled extensively and visited museums and galleries across Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Arlene's chosen medium is acrylic for the intense color and quick drying time. She often creates a “value painting” first in black and white, to establish lights and darks, and then applies colors over that. Her concern is to create a visual sensation rather than depict objects objectively. Color is the real subject of any painting she does.

HGE Students Participate in Empty Bowls Project

For 16 consecutive years, Hunter’s Green Elementary School students have participated in the Empty Bowls Project in partnership with Feed America of Tampa Bay. Creating hand-built clay pots presented as “empty” bowls challenges students at every grade level to examine social issues regarding hunger in Hillsborough County. Students at HGE worked collaboratively to construct the ceramic vessels for the project. Each class contributed a step in the construction process. By hand, some students engaged in making coils or slabs, while others sculpturally assembled the pieces with a floral motif inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. This year, HGE students completed 37 glazed bowls for donation to the Empty Bowls Project. The bowls were distributed at the annual fundraiser to combat hunger, which took place at Lykes Gaslight Park.

Already in the works is the hospital and community college and in talks/meetings about a 300,000-square-foot recreational attraction that includes a hockey rink, a town center "Downtown Wesley Chapel" of government offices, restaurants and shops, hotels and homes. The site as we all know is already home to the Shops of Wiregrass, a "lifestyle center" that includes 100 mall quality stores.

T His father, Don, and uncles Tom and Bill, are still involved in decision making, but J.D. now holds the title of manager of the family ranch and spends the majority of his time meeting with developers and regulatory offiicials. In February he met with "Business Leaders" BnI group at Cory Lake Isles to discuss furure plans. J.D. said, "If you want to see things get done faster, business owners need to be involved and attend the meetings. Don't just complain that things aren't happening, make it happen."

Historically, his elders have remained tight-lipped about their plans for the property, with publicity leaking out through county records, but Porter, who is part of the social media generation, has persuaded them to rethink that postion. He now handles the public relations.

The Common ColdOverview of the Common Cold

t’s that time of year again and like many people you have experienced the

uncomfortable symptoms of the common cold. Physicians call the common cold “viral upper respiratory infections”. Over 200 viruses can cause the common cold with rhinovirus being the most common. Colds are generally caused by close contact with people who have colds or other upper respiratory infections.

Signs and SymptomsCommon cold symptoms include stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, coughing, watery eyes, and mild body or headaches. Sometimes a cold is accompanied by a fever. The body’s natural response to a cold is to create clear mucus to help wash the germs from the nose and sinus cavity. This immune response changes the color of the mucus over the course of a couple of days to a white or yellow color.

When to see your Healthcare Provider• Temperature higher than 100.4• Symptoms that last for more than 10 days When are Antibiotics necessary? The common cold is caused by a virus. Currently, there is no

cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only needed if your healthcare provider determines you have a bacterial infection. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed can be harmful.

Treatment for Cold SymptomsA cold will generally get better on its own. Most important is that you get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.

There are many home remedies that people have used as well as some over the counter medications such as vitamin C, Zinc and Echinacea. These remedies may help with dealing with symptoms until your body recovers but they will not shorten the duration of the cold. Over the counter products should

be used as directed.

Preventing the Common Cold• Practice good hand hygiene• Avoid contact with people who have a cold or other respiratory infection • Cough or sneeze into your arm or elbow and not on your hands
