The HIFALutin’ is the Festival’s daily newspaper proudly brought to you this year by SEEDCO. The 2015 HIFALutin’ is coordinated with the assistance of Zimbojam and is printed overnight and delivered every morning by Sable Press. Manuel Bagorro speaks at the Opening Reception at Town House on 26 April “We all feel so grateful and proud to again be presenting a meaningful and spectacular international festival in our Capital City. Having our opening reception at Town House marks our commitment to Harare, the Central Business District, and our much appreciated partnership with the City. Over the last few months, but particularly the last couple of weeks, I’ve been thinking a great deal about what our theme means as HIFA 2015 develops its own distinct character and personality. It occurred to me that the idea of articulation has 2 parts – articulation is about the way we say things – the clarity, intention and coherence of how we express what we think and care about. It’s also about WHAT we have to say or express – our ideas, our vision – in the case of HIFA - our unshakeable belief in the future of Zimbabwe, the crucial place of the arts in that future, and the power of all of us, individually and collectively, to make a difference. What we have to say, the actual meat and bones of what this Festival is and what it means in Zimbabwe in 2015 - this comes from our programme, and I hope you agree that it’s a strong, vivid, diverse, fascinating programme this year. The arts allow us to say things – profound, complex, painful, joyful things – that cannot be expressed in any other way. The arts have a magical power to heal wounds, to generate unity and brotherhood at a time when our continent is facing so much cruelty and intolerance, to bring us together – to articulate boldly the creativity, compassion, community and TRUTH that HIFA stands for and that we all need and want. So, ladies and Gentlemen, let’s speak and sing with a unified voice this week – immerse ourselves in the wonderful world of so many different artistic experiences on offer - acknowledge to ourselves, each other and the rest of the world what is possible when we come together, when we bring our best selves, our clearest words and ideas, and our most creative hearts to make something transformative – LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO HIFA 2015, ARTICULATE.” Highlights TUESDAY 28 APRIL BancABC DAY AN ARTICULATE START THE OFFICIAL DAILY FOR THE HARARE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS 2015 A fire-eater at the Opening Reception From Leſt to Right: Mrs Fikile Masunda, Mrs Fran Manyenyeni and Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni look on as Manuel Bagorro speaks at the Opening Reception at Town House With the Festival themed around the idea of using words this year, the HIFA 2015 HIVOS Spoken Word programme inevitably becomes an engine room for HIFA 2015. Two contemporary dance pieces, “Raramo” and “Satisfaction Index,” provide contrasting insight into traditional African dance. One, “Raramo” (or “Survival”) uses humour and movement to explore one of Zimbabwe’s most difficult times. The other, “Satisfaction Index,” is more introspective and explores seven virtues against a backdrop of religious and traditional music. The Sunday Independent said of “Raramo” that “…the performers are exuberant and full of life, their voices as strong as their bodies…”

Collisions

All things are related. All things meet at some point. The question is where and how. In this evocative Norwegian dance performance, two women use their bodies to symbolize the search for meaning, belonging, spiritual connection, and the need for trust. “We Bleed The Same Colour” explores how relationships change with time and how, as human beings, we need to change even to remain in the same place. Adult audience only.

Presented by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
