The beginning of a new academic year is always an exciting time for the University. It is the time of the year when we anticipate and embrace new challenges and changes. We have chosen this very special time to organise the Orientation Day for New Teaching and Administrative Staff 2014 and I take great pleasure in welcoming all of you to our University.
I trust that all of you have aspirations and goals for your new roles in the University. We as a university also need to identify goals for ourselves, to draw up strategic plans to achieve the goals, and to establish performance indicators to measure our progress towards the goals. The University has recently updated its strategic plan, Vision 2020. In a nutshell, Vision 2020 envisages that by the year 2020, the University will be the regional leader in whole person education that delivers academic excellence and innovation. To achieve this Vision, the University will integrate three strategic focus areas: which are quality teaching and learning, innovative research, and community engagement. Full details of Vision 2020 are available in the University website and I invite you to browse through them when you settle down.
As the commitment and combined efforts of each and every one of you is essential in bringing our University closer to its vision, I would like to encourage you, as members of the University, to work together towards the achievement of the University’s goals. I also hope that you will, from a newcomer’s point of view, give us new insights and ideas in our pursuit of excellence. It is only through our concerted efforts that the University can grow from strength to strength and soar to new heights.
