How to remove Jammed Paper

This document explains how to clear them quickly and simply.

If printing multiple pages (or copies), do not assume that, having cleared an obvious sheet, others will not also be stopped somewhere along the path. These must also be removed in order to clear the jam fully and restore normal operations. Please remove jammed paper carefully so that it doesn’t tear. How-ever, if it does please ensure that no parts of paper are left inside the printer.

Check the error code displayed on the panel and remove the jammed paper by following the procedures described in this document.

Paper JamsPaper jams occasionally occur due to paper misfeeding from a paper tray or at any point on the paper path through the printer. When a jam occurs, the printer immediately stops and the Status LED on the Status Panel informs you of the event.

Error codes and LocationRefer to the table below to find the location of the paper jam

Error Code 370, 371 & 372A paper jam has occurred under the belt

1. Gently raise the scanner and press the OPEN button to open the top cover fully.

2. Take out the image drum unit and place it on a flat surface.

3. Cover the image drum unit.

4. Pull the locking levers at each side of the transfer belt up and towards the front of the machine. Using the locking levers handles lift the belt upwards and withdraw from the machine.

5. Look into the printer to check whether any sheets of paper are visible on any part of the paper path. Pull out any sheets found in this area.

6. Lower the belt unit into place, with the drive gear towards the rear of the printer. Locate the drive gear into the gear inside the printer by the rear right corner of the unit, and lower the belt unit flat inside the printer.

7. Push the lock levers down to lock the belt unit.

8. Install the image drum unit in the printer so as to situate the K toner cartridge toward the front of the printer.

9. Close the top cover and press down firmly so that the cover latches closed. Lower the scanner back into position.

4. To remove a sheet from the central area of the belt, carefully separate the sheet from the belt surface and withdraw the sheet.

5. If the paper is jammed just entering the fuser, press the release lever and pull out the trapped paper.

Note: Do not attempt to pull the sheet if the paper is well advanced into the fuser.

6. To remove a sheet from the fuser, move the two blue lock levers towards the front of the machine to release the fuser. Lift the fuser unit out using the handle (A).

Error Code 380, 381, 382 & 385A paper jam has occurred inside the printer

7. Press the release lever (B) to remove the trapped paper from the fuser.

8. Insert the fuser unit back into position and push the lock levers down to lock the fuser unit.

9. To remove a sheet with its leading edge at the front of the belt, lift the plastic guard at the front of the printer and remove the paper.

10. Remove the paper.

Error Code 390A paper jam has occurred near the Multi- Purpose Tray




4. Lift the plastic guard at the front of the printer.

5. Remove jammed paper.


7. Close the top cover.

Error Code 391 & 392A paper jam has occurred in paper tray 1/tray 2

1. Pull out the paper cassette tray.

2. If the paper is well advanced out of the printer gently remove it.

3. If the paper does not remove easily, do not use excessive force. Open the top cover lift the plastic guard at the front of the printer and remove the paper.

4. Ensure all paper is undamaged, stacked properly, and the paper guides are properly positioned against the edges of the paper stack. When satisfied, replace the paper cassette tray back into the printer.

Error Code 400 & 409A paper jam has occurred near the Face-up Stacker

1. Error code 400 notifies that paper of an improper size was fed from the tray. Check the paper in the tray, or the printer for a multi feed. Open and close the top cover to perform recovery printing to proceed.

2. An error code 409 occurs when the Face-up Stacker is used (B) check for jammed paper in rear path area (A). Pull out any sheets found in this area.

3. If the sheet is low down in this area and difficult to remove, it is probably still gripped by the fuser. In this case raise the top cover, reach around and press down on the fuser pressure release lever (C).

4. Close the Face-Up Stacker if not in use.

5. Gently lower the scanner. When the jam has been cleared, if Jam Recovery is enabled in the Printer Adjust menu, the MFP will attempt to reprint any pages lost due to paper jams.

Scanner (ADF) Automatic Document FeederA paper jam has occurred in the scanner ADF

1. If a sheet is well advance out of the ADF section, simply grip and pull gently to draw it fully out.

NOTE: If it does not remove easily, do not use excessive force.

2. Lift the ADF cover.

3. Remove any loose paper from the ADF.

4. If there is any paper trapped in the feed mechanism: (a) Lift the feeder mechanism (b) Remove any paper from ADF mechanism.

5. Lower the ADF cover.

6. Press the STOP button to restore the scanning head to the correct position.
