Huawei E353 Data Card FAQ

Q: Which OS can E353 Data Card support?

A:

Now E353 Data Card can support Windows XP SP2/SP3, Windows Vista SP1/SP2,

Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 with latest upgrades.

Q: When E353 Data Card is connected to computer, how can I confirm that it

has been identified?

A:

The device-manager can confirm that:

1. Open control panel, select capability and maintenance.

2. Select system

3. Open the hardware, select device-manager

4. Unfold the Modem and ports. Confirm that if there are 3G Modem, 3G

Application Interface and 3G PC UI Interface. These devices show whether

the E353 Data Card has been identified.

Q: The computer cannot find any new hardware when E353 Data Card is

connected to PC, then what should I do?

A:

1. Switch to another USB port.

2. If you’ve switched to another USB port, but the computer still cannot find

any new hardware, please contact local operator or agent to change your

E353 Data Card.

Q: When E353 Data Card is connected to PC, the system identifies the virtual

CD-ROM and installs the dashboard, but the computer cannot find any new

hardware, then what should I do?



A:

1. First check that the device-manager has identified USB Mass Storage but no

Modem device.

2. Use the devsetup.exe which you can find in the Drivers folder to map the modem a

port.



Q: When E353 Data Card is connected to the computer, the system identifies the

virtual CD-ROM and installs the dashboard, and the computer finds new

hardware, but if you choose auto search drivers, the computer cannot install the

drivers. What should I do?

A:

1. Re-plug E353 Data Card, when the computer finds new hardware, select the

right path in manual to install. The folder is Drivers folder included in

dashboard folder.

2. And also you can use the driverUninstall.exe to uninstall the drivers and then

use driversetup.exe to install the drivers.



Q: When I uninstall the dashboard in Windows Vista and then re-plug E353

Data Card, the system find new hardware, but I cannot install the drivers. What

should I do?

A:

First you should go to the path system dir to find the INFCACHE.1 file. If the

INFCACHE.1 file is less than 6K, that means the INFCACHE.1 file of Vista has been

destroyed when you uninstalled E353 Data Card dashboard. To solve this problem,

Microsoft have released patch KB937187. You can also get help from the Local

Service of Microsoft.



Q: When E353 Data Card is plugged into computer, the system would be dead



or run slowly or cannot open the virtual E353 Data Card CD-ROM. What should

I do?

A:

For these questions, maybe some other softwares or services are conflicting with

E353 Data Card.

To get the cause:

1. Run the msconfig in the star-menu to open System configuration Utility.

2. Choose Services in System configuration Utility, and then select Hide All

Microsoft Services and Disable All. At last choose apply and reboot system.

3. Re-plug E353 Data Card into computer, if the system runs ok, that means some

software or service conflict with E353 Data Card. You can start the service one by

one to find which is conflicting with it, and then you can solve the problem by

uninstalling that software.



4. If you disable all services, but the problem still exists, please contact local

operator or agent for helps.

Q: When E353 Data Card is connected to computer, the system installs the

dashboard, but there are some port conflicts. What should I do?

A:

Check ports in device-manager, that the data-card was assigned a same port as another

device will cause data-card unable to connect to internet.

For this problem, you can solve it by switching the port which the device is using as

following:

1. Open device-manager, right-click the conflict device, then choose properties.



2. Open the ports-setting in the property dialog-box, select advanced.

3. Then click pull-down list to select another unused port and click OK.



Q: What’s the meaning of E353 Data Card LED flashing?

A:

• Green, blinking twice every 3s: Data Card is powered on.

• Green, blinking once every 3s: Data Card is registering with a 2G network.

• Blue, blinking once every 3s: Data Card is registering with a 3G/3G+ network.

• Green, solid: Data Card is connected to a 2G network.

• Blue, solid: Data Card is connected to a 3G network.

• Cyan, solid: Data Card connected to a 3G+ network.

• Off: Data Card is removed.

Q: How could I inquire the version of the dashboard and the firmware?

A:

1. Open the dashboard, select HelpAbout Mobile Partner you can get the

version of dashboard



2. Select Tools Diagnostics, you can get the version of firmware and

dashboard.



Q: E353 Data Card installs OK and customer SIM card has signal however the

connect button shows grey out?

A:

This issue has been seen on a number of laptops running Norton internet security.

Exact versions of this are not yet known and the only known solution is to disable

Norton however this has not worked in 100% of cases.

Q: Click the connection from the website, there appears a blank website which

can not be shutdown.

A:

This is caused by the operator’s network.

Use the same data card to login the website via different networks.

Use different data cards to login the website via the same network.



Q: When users dial up the internet via data card, the speedrate is slow.

A:

This is cause by the background software.

Use the original dialup software from Windows, and make a speedrate comparison

with the data card,

Modify the background software.

Q: The data card of Hong Kong customer has no signal in Macao, but the SIM

card can search network in handset

A:

The SIM card set the network which forbids it to configure into the list of forbidden

automatically.

When the SIM card can be configured after renovating the network, we must get the

network out of the list of forbidden manually.

Q: When I want to dial up, what is the meaning of fail code 619?

A:

1) Weak Signal

Make a comparison test by strong signal section.

2) Configuration failure of the APN

Check the configuration of the APN in the Dashboard，make sure that there is no

add-configuration which has been set. Set the APN correctly, disable the

add-configuration.

Q: Why cannot I connect to a network through E353 after I set a PIN in Windows

7?

A:

The scenario is:

You have a computer that is running Windows 7.

E353 is attached to the computer.

You set a personal identification number (PIN) for E353.



You try to connect to the WWAN through E353.

In this scenario, maybe you cannot connect to the WWAN, and get following message

“The device can't find a signal”.

This is known as a bug of windows 7, and Microsoft has published it on its support

web. The web address is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981351. You can get an

upgrade patch from Microsoft or from here to fix it. And you can

also wait for Microsoft to upgrade Window 7.

Q: How about the temperature limit during E353 Data Card operating?

A:

The E353 Data Card can be used between –10℃ and +45℃.
