    d. SLOWLY move either directional/speed control[F-N-R] handle [ITEM 1] TOWARD the SAMEdirection the machine is desired to travel.

    NOTE:PUSHING either handle in the

FORWARD direction will select a FORWARD direction of machine travel. PULLING either handle in the BACKWARD direction will select a REVERSE direction of machine travel. The machine travel speed is proportional to the amount of either directional/speed control [F-N-R] handle movement, UNTIL full handle travel has been reached, in EITHER DIRECTION.

The transmission system will beelectrically disengaged, when the

secondary/parking brake system controlswitch is in the ON [APPLIED] position.

    e. When the machine is clear of confinement, personnel or objects, SLOWLY move either direc-tional/speed control [F-N-R] handle [ITEM 1] furthertoward the SAME direction of machine travel. Thiswill give FULL machine speed for the transmissionrange and engine throttle speed, selected.

    NOTE:During normal operation, the machine

travel speed is proportional to theamount of either directional/speedcontrol [F-N-R] handle movement, until full handle movement has beenreached, in either direction.

On C766C, machine serial numbers C209C2344and above, plus C209C2313 and C778B, machineserial numbers B215C1738 and above, the asphaltmat temperature is electronically monitored and canbe accessed and displayed on the display screen, during the rolling operation.

NOTE:The vibration systems will NOT operateif the TRAVEL [high] transmissionrange is selected. When the speed rangeselector switch is in the TRAVELposition, LOW transmission systemtorque is available. When the speed rangeselector switch is in the WORKposition, HIGHtransmission systemtorque is available.

    c. When on the work surface, put the engine throttlespeed [RPM] control switch [ITEM 3] in the HIGHengine speed position.

WARNING:Do NOT put the engine throttle speed [RPM] control switch in the

    HIGH engine speed position when

the machine is being moved in a confined area, or when near personnel, any object or machine.

CAUTION:When on the work surface, do NOTattempt to operate the drum vibrationsystems with the engine at LOWidle. The systems will NOT operatewith the engine at the LOW enginespeed and/or if the TRAVEL [high]transmission range is selected.

    f. When on the WORK surface, put the drumvibrator MODE [OFF/AUTOMATIC/MANUAL]control switch [ITEM 8] in the desired position.

CAUTION:Do NOT operate either drumvibration system, UNLESS thedrums of the machine are on theWORK, or a SOFT surface, such asloose dirt or old tires.Damage to the drums and/ormachine can occur if the drumvibration system[s] is operated ona HARD surface.

    g. Turn one [1], or both, vibration system controlFREQUENCY control[s] [ITEM 10] to set thecontrol[s] at the desired drum FREQUENCY [vpm].

NOTE: Put the DRUM VIBRATION SYSTEM[S]LOCATION control switch [ITEM 9] atthe desired FRONT/BOTH/REARposition.If operating either drum vibration systemin the MANUAL MODE, turn thesystem[s] ON and OFF by usingeither of the directional/speed controlhandle installed thumb switches[ITEM 12].In either the AUTOMATIC, or

MANUAL mode, the vibrationsystem[s] will NOT operate with theengine at the LOW engine speed and/or if the TRAVEL [high] transmissionrange is selected. Adjustment of theFREQUENCY control[s] can be done atany time, while the machine is on, or off,the work surface. When operatingin the AUTOMATIC vibrator mode, the vibration system[s] will startand stop at the adjusted, presetON/OFF speed, WITHOUT the use ofthe directional/speed control handleinstalled thumb switches [ITEM 12], aseach work surface rolling pass is startedand then stopped.

    h. Put the drum vibration systems FRONT/REAR/BOTH LOCATION control switch [ITEM 9]at the desired FRONT, REAR or BOTHposition.

    i. Put the vibration systems control HIGH/LOW

AMPLITUDE control switch [ITEM 11] at thedesired HIGH or LOW drum AMPLITUDEposition.

    j. When operating on the work surface, select thedesired water spray system mode; AUTO/ OFF/MANUAL by using the dash mounted water spraysystem MODE control switch [ITEM 6]. Put theswitch LEFT to put the system in theAUTOMATIC mode, RIGHT to MANUAL tooperate the system continuously or in the CEN-TER position to turn the system OFF.

    Section 3 OPERATION

    7/00 3-23

LIMITED OPERATION MODE [See Figure 3-3].

The "limited operation mode" allows the machine tobe removed from the work surface.

The "limited operation mode" is programed into

computer controller software "Version 2.33" andwas NOT included in previous "versions" of thesoftware.

NOTE:The "version" of the software, containedwithin the computer controller, isdisplayed on the system functionmonitor display screen [ITEM 26] whenthe ignition key switch is first turned tothe "ON/RUN" position.

The machine directional control system will"automatically default" to the limited operation modewhen a "stop fault" condition exists and has beendetected by the computer controller [See Figure 3-3- Screen #1] .

The system function monitor display screen[ITEM 26] will visually "prompt" the operator toreturn either directional/speed control [F-N-R]handle [ITEM 1] to the neutral position.

With the directional/speed control [F-N-R] handle[ITEM 1] in the neutral position, the screen will

display the functions which should allow themachine to be moved.

    A message will appear stating "FRNT/FWD"or"REAR/REV"[See Figure 3-3 - Screens #2 and #3] .

The message will inform the operator that bymoving the Drum Vibration Systems "Location"Control Switch [ITEM 9] from the center [BOTHposition] to either the FRONT, or REAR, drumposition machine movement can be achieved.

The machine will travel in FORWARD with theswitch in the FRONT position and in REVERSE withthe switch in the REAR position when either direc-tional/speed control [F-N-R] handle [ITEM 1] ismoved from the NEUTRAL position towards eitherdirection of travel. The Engine Throttle SpeedControl Switch [ITEM 3] MUST be in the "LOW"speed position and the Transmission Range"WORK" [Low] /"TRAVEL" [High] Control Switch[ITEM 7] can be placed in EITHER of the two [2]positions.

DANGER:ALL personnel and other machines MUST be CLEAR of the machine path BEFORE the

    machine is moved.

WARNING :The directional/speed control[F-N-R] handle [ITEM 1] does NOTcontrol the direction of machinetravel, during the"limited

operation mode". Thedirectional/speed control[F-N-R] handle is ONLY used tocontrol movement of the machine, but not the speed of themovement. Machine speed is NOTproportional to movement of thedirectional/speed control[F-N-R] handle.

When the directional/speedcontrol [F-N-R] handle is movedfrom the neutral position, regardless of which direction it ismoved, the machine will travel inthe direction which was selectedwith the Drum Vibration Systems"Location" Control Switch[ITEM 9].The machine will travelapproximately 0.75 mph [1.2 kmph]with the Transmission Range

Control Switch in the "LOW"position and 1.5 mph [2.4 kmph]with the Transmission RangeControl Switch in the "High"position. While in the Limited OperationMode, move the machine the LEASTdistance possible, from the worksurface.Do NOT drive the machine to therepair area. Use a truck, or trailer, tomove the machine to the repairarea.

NOTE:Dependant on the "stop fault" conditionwhich exists and has been detected bythe computer controller, limitedoperation may be restricted to eitherforward, or reverse, direction of travel. If travel is not achieved in one direction, attempt to travel in the oppositedirection.
