Content:

Developing yourself as a team leader

The various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader (depending on workplace) and limits of authority and accountability, and how these are defined.

Leading your work team

The difference between leadership and management, and the need for each of them. The characteristics of a leader, and how these are developed.

Planning and Monitoring work

How to plan and allocate work to achieve team goals and monitor the team’s performance against a plan.

Understanding change in an organisation

The need to understand and deal effectively with change as required in the role.

Solving problems and making decisions

The process of gathering information to solve a workplace problem and be able to use that to come to a suitable decision.

Workplace Communication

The methods of communication and the importance of communicating effectively and keeping records.

Setting team objectives

Using time management methods whilst setting SMART objectives and monitoring their achievement.

ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team skills Course Objective: The ILM level 2 Certificate is a qualification designed to give learners a basic knowledge of the various roles, function and responsibilities of a team leader and the limits of their authority and accountability. The units delivered are a good starting point for team/cell leaders who are new to their roles or for aspiring leaders who wish to gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of team leading. Throughout the workshops there will be a number of different training methods utilised by the tutor to cater for all learning styles and these will include the following – theory, team exercises, individual questionnaires, discussions/debates and YouTube clips. Reflection time will be built in to cater for learning points to be consolidated; this will enable a clear link to be made between learning and the practicalities of the workplace. You will also discuss the assessments needed for the qualification and the tutor will guide and support you through the requirements.
