Introduced in 2013, Van Cleef & Arpels’ Lady Arpels Ballerine

Enchantée was inspired by the Russian prima ballerina Anna

Pav lova. The image o f a dancer w i th a but ter f ly tu tu has

perpetuated the tradition of ballerinas and fairies that the Maison

is attached to. The dial uses translucent Grand Feu enamel on

which the golden sculpted ballerina is set with diamonds. The

inner layer of the skirt is applied with champlevé enamel while

the outer veils are like a pair of openwork wings. These features

account for the lightness, brilliance and depth to the watch.

Beyond the beautiful appearance, the wristwatch has a double

retrograde movement with time on demand. Pressing the button

at 8 o’clock will give rise to the left veil first to indicate the hour,

followed by the right veil which positions itself to indicate the

minute. They remain in place for a while then return to their initial

positions.

The present Van Cleef & Arpels' t imepiece is a truly poetic

balance between aesthetic excellence and watchmaking mastery,

Since the seventeenth century, enamel has been widely used in the watchmaking industry for its

breathtaking richness and saturated color. As the artistry is becoming a lost craft, an enamel watch is

something to desire.

Patek Philippe has had the tradition of creating distinguished enamel watches. For ref. 5076/100P-

015, the cloisonné technique is used to present a life-like tiger jumping out of the bush. On a lowest

layer of enamel, a gold wire less than 0.5 mm in diameter is bent to form the image and fixed to the

hand-engraved dial. After the first firing, the paste is applied to the areas to be enameled and fired

at temperatures of more than 800°C. Each time of firing makes the colour more transparent and

deeply intensified, presenting a more vibrant and dynamic tiger. Only five watches with dials depicting

the lively tigers were introduced in 2008, which makes this timepiece a magnificent and truly valuable

collectible.

present watch contains a world-time function in white gold case and the depiction of

the Asia, Africa and Europe on the Cloisonné enamel dial. Every dial is a unique piece

of artwork, because the whole Cloisonné enamelling has to be handmade. First, the

enamel artisan outlines the shapes with very fine gold wires in order to separate the

different field of enamel colours, and then the dial is fired in a kiln at around 800℃. The

whole process repeats several times to intensify the colours and alter the translucency of

Minute repeating watches represent a high level of sophistication

as i t requires meticulous watchmaking techniques so as to

Ulysse Nardin adds something more. The present watch takes

inspiration from Italy’s traditional “the Carnival of Venice”

with a rare champlevé enamel dial depicting this annual festival.

Established in 1846, Ulysse Nardin’s navigational timepieces have set the standard for precision in both

civil and military realms. Overcoming the Quartz Crisis in the 1980s, the brand revived to create the most

forefront and innovative timepieces.The Minute Repeater Circus was created in 2004. This fascinating watch

is available exclusively in 30 pieces. Six different circus figures are finely hand-carved on the black onyx dial

“stage”. They are performing in sync with the repeater to tell the time. The monkey is trying to catch the

balls juggled by the clown when the hour chimes; the tiger’s paw is moving together with its trainer’s whip

to indicate the quarter; finally, when the tiger stretches its paw it indicates the minutes, and the bear facing

ballerina also lifts its head when the minute repeater is ringing.

Just like the tourbillon, the carrousel was designed to neutralise the

effects of deceleration and acceleration of the balance wheel induced by

gravity. Their difference is that a tourbillon consists of a rotating carriage

while a carrousel consists of a platform on which the balance wheel and

its bridge go round like a wooden horse on a merry-go-round.

Blancpain has revived this complication by incorporating it on

wristwatches and invented the one-minute flying carrousel. The present

watch reveals the fascinating carrousel system at the 12 o’clock

marker. It also uses the rare tantalum as the case material, which is

hard and chemical-resistant, bringing a unique smoky grey metallic

luster to the watch.

The popular reference 5131 is an iconic Patek Philippe grand complication on the market.

The present watch contains a world-time function in rose gold case and the depiction

of the Asia and Americas on the Cloisonné enamel dial. Every dial is a unique piece of

artwork, because the whole Cloisonné enamelling has to be handmade. First, the enamel

artisan outlines the shapes with very fine gold wires in order to separate the different field

of enamel colours, and then the dial is fired in a kiln at around 800℃. The whole process

repeats several times to intensify the colours and alter the translucency of the enamels.

The present Rose gold 5131R world-time complications masterpiece with extraordinary

craftsmanship is one of the most appealing to Patek Philippe collectors

of Harry Winston Rare Timepiece, he transformed the

MB&F

The MB&F Arachnophobia table clock was inspired by a giant spider

sculpture called Maman (mother in French), created by Louise

Bourgeois (1911 - 2010) in bronze, stainless steel and marble. MB&F

developed this highly unusual concept with a high-end L’Epée

clock movement. Furthermore, they re-imagined the escapement as

the spider head. This playful concept on timepiece allows an intimate

relationship with the spider.

Founded in 1997, Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei co-founded Urwerk aiming to create their

own vision of timepieces. The UR-202 features the URWERK patented Revolving Satellite

Complication but in a slightly unique way. 3 telescopic hands at the end of the hour cubes keep

extending and retracting in order to perfectly align with the minute track at the bottom of the dial.

A significant function and notable feature of the model UR-202 is that it is the world’s first watch

with the winding rate regulated by fluid dynamics. Its twin turbines are coupled with the winding

rotor. According to the position of the selector lever, the turbines act as shock absorbers. In

normal activity they cushion sharp movements of the rotor. This reduces wear and increases the

lifespan of the movement. While the selector position is continuously variable, the three principal

positions are: normal activity, where the turbines spin freely; vigorous activity, where the air

pressure generated by the turbines reduces the winding rate by approximately 35% and extreme

activity where the turbines and rotor are fully blocked.

The present lot has a simple and distinct look. The

white dial seems ordinary, however it is made of

white enamel with three layers: the main dial for

hours and minutes, a recessed central segment

with the Lange signature, and the subsidiary-

seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The whole process

takes 30 steps with great care and virtuosity.

Under the flawless white dial, the movement has

a fusée-and-chain transmission mechanism

which is one of the most effective complications to

increase the rate accuracy of a mechanical watch.

Furthermore, this high-precision mechanism

can be observed from a drop-shaped cutout in

the three-quarter plate. Only 200 watches are

produced for this model due to the complexities.

Since founded in 1995, the Swiss watch manufacture Roger Dubuis has brought

to the haute horology world numerous avant-garde designs in terms of theme,

material, shape and colour.

In 2013, Roger Dubuis has created the one-of-a-kind Excalibur Knights of

the Round Table inspired by the legend of King Arthur. Today, it brings a new

interpretation of the collection. 12 finely engraved and sculpted miniature knights

are positioned to form a circle to replace the hour-marker. Each knight is only

6.5 mm tall and uniquely representing each one of the legendary figures. The

design and placement takes skilled artisans up to a whole day to complete. As

it is declared in the legend: “around this table, the bravest knights will gather

as equals.” The knights are the symbol of strength and courage. The watch is

further distinguished by the precious and masterfully engraved black jade dial

which represents power, wisdom and self-control, all in all fully complementing the

noble and pure characters of the knights.

watchmakers. It has been working on new generations of tourbillon specifically

designed to improve the timekeeping of the mechanical watches. In 2004, it

stunned the horological industry with the innovative Double Tourbillon 30°.

The present watch is equipped with a double tourbillon movement mechanism

with 120 hours power reserve. It has one tourbillon inclined at 30° rotating

in 60 seconds and inside another rotating every four minutes, to average

out gravity-induced errors on the oscillator as well as giving the watch a

3-dimensinal effect. The case band is also finely engraved two plates bearing

the beliefs of the brand.

flyback chronograph. By using the pusher

Poly Auction is proud to present this Richard Mille RM051-

01, highlighted by the element of Eastern aesthetics from the

famous Chinese movie “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II”.

Visible mechanical structure and delicate depictions of a tiger and

dragon merge with the spinning tourbillion in the middle. A Black-

and-white Tai Chi pattern is engraved on the back of the watch,

presenting the notion of the Yin and Yang, "negative-positive", in

ancient Chinese philosophy. Moreover, this unique masterpiece

is fully covered with more than 200 square-cut diamonds on the

case with a total weight of 18.75 carats, giving the watch an overall

sensational effect. Although this model is limited to 20 pieces,

each timepiece is made with different materials. This baguette-set

version is a possibly unique piece, which makes this masterpiece a

grail watch.

five years but yet remains very popular up to this day. The porcelain-white dial,

Being the successor of reference 5050, reference 5059 was launched in

2002 and produced until 2006. Among the very few perpetual calendars

with a sweep seconds hand, the watch features the Patek Philippe’s

tradition – officer case with a hinged dust cover to protect the sapphire

crystal case back. The most remarkable part of the timepiece is the

perpetual calendar with retrograde date. Instead of sweeping a full circle,

the date hand jumps back to the beginning when it reach the last day

of the month. At the same time, the mechanism does not absorb any

energy from the mainspring barrel.

The popular reference 5131 is an iconic Patek Philippe grand complication on the market.

The present watch contains a world-time function in yellow gold case and the depiction of

the Americas, Europe and Africa on the Cloisonné enamel dial. Every dial is a unique piece

of artwork, because the whole Cloisonné enamelling has to be handmade. First, the enamel

artisan outlines the shapes with very fine gold wires in order to separate the different field

of enamel colours, and then the dial is fired in a kiln at around 800℃. The whole process

repeats several times to intensify the colours and alter the translucency of the enamels.

motif. Each of the four mask is made of a different material

and symbolize a different cultures. A short poem dedicated to

each mask written by Michel Butor circles the dial.
