I am pleased to present you with the 2012 Fall Program Guide highlighting this season’s activities and programs offered by the Town of Innisfil. Our community is very active and fortunate to have access to a wide variety of recreational choices and superb leisure facilities. Remarkable program opportunities have been developed by our staff to help you and your family stay healthy and active this fall.

The Town hosts many great community events each year where you can have fun and meet other people. The 2012 Innisfil Farmers’ Market is being held every Thursday from 1 to 6pm at the Innisfil Recreational Complex until October featuring local producers and growers.

In July, the Innisfil Public Library celebrated 100 years of library service in Stroud with photo displays, musical entertainment and family activities to showcase Innisfil’s unique local history. I would also like to thank you to all who attended the second annual Family Fun Day this year and for making it an unqualified success. Next year’s festivities on June 22 will be even bigger and better! Stay tuned for more information and please contact me if you or your community group wish to be involved.

I encourage you to use the Fall Program Guide as a tool not only to find activities that interest you and your family, but also a way to make the most of what Innisfil has to offer by getting involved in the community and discovering our rich recreational culture. We look forward to bringing you more programs and opportunities in our Winter Program coming in November.

Regards,

Mayor Barb Baguley

Get a Life Human Library FestivalExperience a ‘living library’ on Saturday October 20th at the Lakeshore Branch! Recognizing the community building benefits of a Human Library event, Innisfil has partnered with the public libraries of Bradford West Gwillimbury, Barrie, Orillia and Spring-water to bring the Get a Life Festival to Simcoe County on multiple Saturdays this October.

This is a place for people to better understand the life experience of others and to challenge their own assumptions, prejudices and stereotypes. Designated volunteers become ‘books’ and are borrowed for conversation with ‘readers’ in a safe, welcoming and respectful environment. A catalogue of ‘books’ will be available to review online prior to the festival. Readers can either reserve a book in advance through the online festival calendar or walk in and request an available book on the day of the event. Human books are loaned out for half an hour intervals. You could be a ‘reader’ if you are interested in hearing an individual’s personal story, or are curious about cultures, experiences and/or lifestyles different from your own. You could also be a ‘book’ if you want to share your own unique story, are courageous and passionate about your culture, life experience and/or lifestyle. For more information please visit www.getalifefestival.ca.

Culture Days Celebrate Culture Days in Innisfil September 28 and 29 with a number of exciting community art projects! Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Each branch will have an interactive art experience for the community to participate in—join this engaging cultural project to Create, Participate and Celebrate!

Let us surprise you this fall with a number of exciting events at the Innisfil Public Library!

Coming Soon—Digital Media Lab and Maker Projects The Innisfil Public Library is currently developing a Digital Media Lab at the Lakeshore Branch, which will allow the community to create and edit videos, produce and record music, and experiment with graphic editing software. This space will be free for the community. Take a skill out of the Innisfil Public Library this fall with hands on opportunities for the community to engage with new technologies and cool gadgets, such as arduinos and 3D printers!
