Local Group Dwarf Elliptical Galaxies. I. Mapping the Dynamics of NGC 205 Beyond the Tidal RadiusGeha et al., AJ, 131, 332, 2006

• Introduction– NGC205: dwarf ellipitical (dE) 。

• Data– Target: CFHT12K R, I image より RGB star

を CM 図上で選別• 20.0<I<21.5 (first priority は 20.5<I<21.0)

Keck DEIMOS• 4 mask, 3x1200sec

• 869 spectra

• 769 radial velocities– CaII triplet

– Velocity Profile• Vmax=11±5km/s @ 4’.5 (1.1kpc)

On Kinematic Substructure in the Sextans Dwarf Spheroidal GalaxyWalker et al., ApJL, 642, L41, 2006

(Draco, UMi, Sculpter

Merging history ?

• Chemical+kinematic 重要– Sextans dSphr:

• Milkyway companion: d ~ 86kpc

• Observation & Data– Michigan-MIKE Fiber System (MMFS) on Magellan

• 256 fibers / 30’ FOV

• 5140-5180A, R~15000-20000, MgI triplet

• 810 radial velocity measurement– <V> = 226km/s, σv = 2.6km/s– σ= 8.9±0.4km/s

• 276(2.6σ) ~ 303(4σ) probable Sextans members

• No rotation

On Kinematic Substructure in the Sextans Dwarf Spheroidal GalaxyWalker et al., ApJL, 642, L41, 2006

• Radial velocity dispersion– Cold substructure @ r ~ 15’ north; P(cold)>0.9

• Dynamical friction timescale: 1.5 Gyr

Proper Motions of Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies from Hubble Space Telescope Imaging. I - IVsee Piatek et al., AJ, 131, 1445, 2006

– Local Group dwarf galaxies
