Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) paid a total dividend of Rs. 126.84 crore for the Financial Year 2017-18. A cheque of Rs.21.84 crore as final dividend was presented by CMD, IREDA Shri K.S. Popli to Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R. K. Singh in the presence of Secretary, MNRE Shri Anand Kumar and CMD, REC Dr. P. V. Ramesh and senior officials from MNRE & IREDA on 26th September at MNRE, New Delhi.

During the financial year 2017-18, IREDA achieved highest Loan sanctions of Rs. 12130 crores for RE Projects, an increase of 19% over Rs. 10199 crores of 2016-17 and disbursed Rs. 8328 crores an increase of 26% over Rs. 6593 crores disbursed during 2016-17.

IREDA signs MoU with REC

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA) and Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd. (REC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for working together to promote Renewable Energy development across the country. The MoU was signed by CMD, REC Dr. P. V. Ramesh and CMD, IREDA Shri K S Popli in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C) Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R K Singh and Secretary, MNRE Shri Anand Kumar on 26th September 2018 in MNRE, New Delhi.

To achieve the goal of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022 provides a huge opportunity for all stake holders including landers to be part of green growth of the country. Financing of around 100 billion dollars would be required in next four years to meet the RE target. In this regard, REC and IREDA have come together to take advantage of huge opportunity provided by RE and to meet the financing requirement of the sector.

While signing the MoU, Mr. Popli said, “by coming together REC and IREDA can address substantial financing requirement for the sector seamlessly, at a time when need for financing large projects would grow exponentially in coming years.”

CMD, REC Dr. Ramesh said “This is a new milestone for us in our quest to promote sustainable development and focus on green energy solution. This is a transformational opportunity for REC and IREDA to work together forming a perfect synergy between both the organisation”.

Shri Praveen Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has assumed additional charge of CMD, IREDA on 11th March 2019.

Shri Praveen Kumar is an IAS Officer from 1987 batch of Tamil Nadu Cadre. He is presently working as Additional Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. Prior to this, he has handled various important positions in the State Governments as well as in Central Government, where he was involved in Policy Formulation and Implementation of various Public Departments.

IREDA-NIWE Annual Awards for Wind Energy 2019 were presented on 21st March 2019 at National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Chennai.

The awards are to promote innovation, research and development, manufacturing, developing and harnessing wind energy at the state and national levels and to motivate individuals and stakeholders to strive for the best in the field.

The Award for the category of Best performing State Nodal Agencies for the year 2017-18 was conferred on Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (KREDL), Bengaluru. Shri. A.B Basavaraju KAS, Managing Director, KREDL, Bengaluru received the Award of Rupees One Lakh on behalf of KREDL, which has promoted 875 MWs of wind power projects in the Andhra Pradesh and the state has stood first in the country for the year 2017-18.

Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur was conferred as the Best Institution of Higher Learning in Wind Energy. Dr. Rohit Bhakar (HOD), Head Centre for energy & Environment of Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan received the Award of Rupees One Lakh on behalf MNIT.

The Award for Best Research work in Wind Energy Category was awarded to Dr. Zakir Hussain Rather, Assistant Professor, IIT, Mumbai for his Research Work on “Intelligent Operation and control of Modern Power Systems with large scale Renewable Energy Penetration” for the year 2017-18. On behalf of Dr. Zakir Hussain Rather, Shri. Rakesh Reddy received the award.

Shri K. S. Popli, CMD (IREDA) was felicitated and given a warm farewell by IREDA on 1st March 2019. He has relieved from IREDA on completion of 5 years tenure.

In his 11-year tenure, Shri Popli contributed immensely to the IREDA and taking it to new heights. He joined IREDA in December 2007 as Director (Technical) and appointed CMD w.e.f. 1st March 2014. Prior to IREDA, Shri Popli associated with the National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) for 11 years and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) for 14 years.

On the occasion, Shri Popli spoke about his journey in IREDA. He appreciated the officers and staff of company for working efficiently and hoped that IREDAN’s will continue working with the same enthusiasm.

Shri B. M. Chauhan, General Manager (Technical Services) was accorded a warm farewell on his superannuation on 29th March, 2019 in a function held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Shri Chauhan was felicitated by Shri Praveen Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director, IREDA. CMD highlighted the services rendered by Shri Chauhan in different capacities with honesty, sincerity and dedication.

Shri Chauhan joined IREDA 1994 as Manager (Technical Services) after serving with Oriental Bank of Commerce and NSFDC.Shri Chauhan in his address thanked the management and his colleagues for support and cooperation received.

Training Program on “Organizational Excellence” at Manali, Himachal Pradesh

A three days (12th July 2018 -14th July 2018) out bound Residential Training Program on “Organizational Excellence” was organized by IREDA in association with Dimensions Education at Manali, Himachal Pradesh, for officials of non-executive cadre.

The participants were facilitated to explore excellence in the organization. The lectures, interactions, group discussions, anecdotes etc. helped the participants to examine some of their fixed notions about things, persons and situations in their life. They became familiar with the barriers, elements and tools of effective communication, better team work, enhanced effectiveness, and time management. The concept and awareness of emotional stability, emotional intelligence, etiquette, attitudinal excellence and positive work culture were also covered and the activities allowed them the much needed experiential learning. This will be instrumental to develop tight knit, high performance teams.

All the participants participated with full zeal and enthusiasm. They thoroughly enjoyed the sight-seeing and travelled together like an extended family.

International Women’s Day was celebrated at IREDA Corporate Office on 08th March 2019 with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, a get together was organized to recognize the contribution made by women employees to the organization and society in general.

Dr. P Sreenivasan, General Manager (HR), IREDA spoke about the importance of women in the society and lauded the efforts made by the IREDA women employees for the betterment of the organization.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of ‘Mind’ and ‘Body’; ‘Thought’ and ‘Action’. The work ‘Yoga’ derives from Sanskrit which means to join or to unite and symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

International Day of Yoga was celebrated at IREDA on 21st June, 2018 at India Habitat Centre. IREDA employees were briefed about the benefits of yoga asanas. On this occasion, Shri Chintan Shah, Director (Technical) emphasized the benefits of yoga and regular exercise in any form and at any spare time for a healthy and balanced life.

Following the “Common Yoga Protocol” of Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopaythy (AYUSH), employees performed Yoga under the guidance of Acharya Seva Ram and Mrs. RenuUpadhya.

A lecture cum demonstration on “Importance of Self Defence” by Shri Subodh Dhiman was also organized after the Yoga session for the benefits of IREDA’s employees especially for women employees. The Program was wellreceived by the participants. The program was concluded with group photo and vote of thanks by Dr. P Sreenivasan, GM(HR).

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) observed SwachhtaPakhwada from June 1-15, 2018.

As a part of this event as well as keeping in view the importance of World Environment Day, a lecture has been organized by IREDA on ‘Living in Harmony with Nature’. The program was addressed by Shri B K Pius, Spiritual Brother from Brahma Kumaris at ‘Amaltas Hall’ in IHC complex, New Delhi.

Some of the major activities undertaken during SwachhtaPakhwada are:-

» An awareness amongst employees involvement in Swachh Bharat was initiated not only taking up the cleanliness drive at office but also at respective houses, housing society, social circle and also by further awareness with children, etc.

» Cleanliness drive at IREDA both Registered and Corporate Offices at New Delhi and its Branch/Camp Offices located at Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Special cleaning of IREDA offices and as well as surrounding area was also taken up by IREDA.

» Waste papers/materials/Old scrap, etc. lying at IREDA Corporate Office were identified and disposed off/Weeding out.

» Special cleaning of IREDA Stores in basement at its Registered Office at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The inaugural function of ''Vigilance Awareness Week 2018' held at Corporate Office of IREDA. CMD, IREDA Shri K. S. Popli administered the Integrity Pledge to employees of the company. Director (Finance) Shri S. K. Bhargava, CVO Shri Philp Bara were also present on this occasion.

A Hindi Play “GOLMAL” directed by Shyam Kumar on the theme of Corruption was also organized on this occasion for the employees of the IREDA and their family members. On this occasion, CMD, IREDA Shri K. S. Popli, Director (Finance) Shri S. K. Bhargava and CVO Shri Philip Bara released the ‘Vigilance Journal - PAHAL’. The function ended with Rashtriya Gaan.

A team consisting of Shri K.P. Philip, AGM (TS) & Shri Abhinav Chandra, AM (TS) represented IREDA. The theme of this year quiz was 'Municipal Solid Waste Management'. The quiz was hosted by renowned quiz master, Mr. Charu Sharma.

Shri K. S. Popli, Chairman & Managing Director of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) conferred with the Institute of Directors (IOD) Distinguished Fellowship for the year 2018.Shri Popli was recognized for his outstanding contribution towards business and society at IOD's ‘20th World Congress on Environment Management & Climate Change’ on 6th July, 2018 in New Delhi.

Shri Popli has rich experience of working over 35 years in Indian Power Sector. He has served with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC), prior to joining IREDA in 2007. Shri Popli is also on the management board of several organizations of national importance and also official member of various high level committees set up by the Government of India in the field of Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency. He is also Country Representative for International Solar Alliance – Affordable Finance at Scale. His contribution to the organization, profession and society at large has been recognized by various National & International agencies through conferring various coveted awards.

Shri K. S. Popli, CMD, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. (IREDA), has been conferred 'Leaders of the Decade in Public Service' Award by Women Economic Forum at its annual conclave on 1st May, 2018 at New Delhi. The award was presented by Dr. Harbeen Arora, Global Chairperson, Women Economic Forum to Shri Popli.

Shri Popli also addressed the valedictory session of Women Economic Forum. He said that “women gender equality is also part of sustainable development goals. If we want to have sustainable development, we need to have empower women from all the sectors. Still 25 percent of the homes don’t have electricity worldwide. I think empowering women also would require empowering with energy.”

During his address Shri Popli also said that “today the contribution of women in GDP is 17 percent. Renewable installed capacity is also 17 percent today. This is 17 percent against the global average of 37 percent. So, I found some similarities and I am sure as we developed, our renewable energy and the energy of women power in India and globally would also developed. That is what we can think off and we can all work together.”

Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) has been awarded ‘Golden Peacock Award for Environment Management’ on the occasion of ‘20th World Congress on Environment Management & Climate Change’ on 6th July, 2018 in New Delhi.

The award was presented by Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Dr. Aruna Sharma and Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri C. K. Mishra to Dr. P. Sreenivsan, GM (HR) accompanied by other officials of IREDA.

IREDA bags ‘UK-India Deal of the Year Award” in Green Climate Bonds (Masala Bonds)

IREDA has been honoured with the UK-India Deal of the Year Award by India Inc. in London on 22nd June, 2018 during the 2nd UK-INDIA Conclave. The recognition is bestowed to IREDA being the first issuer of green Climate Bonds Certified and Investment Grade rated bond by a financial institution. The bond was nearly two times oversubscribed – the highest in the masala space in 2017 – emphasizing the continued importance of the UK’s capital markets for India’s rapid growth ambitions. Induction Program for Executive Trainees

Induction training Program for newly joined Executive Trainees was conducted by IREDA in association with Skill Council for Green Jobs during 19th June 2018 to 13th July 2018 at IREDA Corporate Office, New Delhi.

The 20 days Induction Program driven by senior technical experts from various Renewable Energy sectors, senior officials of IREDA gave executive trainees an exposure to popular renewable energy sources and their harnessing methods; latest technical developments in the field of Renewable Energy; exposure to the national and global scenario of renewable energy; policy and regulatory scenario in renewable energy.

In order to strengthen the skills required to perform, deliver and create impact at workplace, the executive trainees were sensitized on the topics such as Emotional Intelligence, Industry communication, People Management, Consulting mindset, the art of consistently exceeding expectation, Conflict management and various team building exercises.

To provide an exposure about the national and global scenario of renewable energy, the executive trainees were taken to Renewable Energy Dialogue 2018 organized by Council on Energy, Environment and Water, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the International Energy Agency, the International Solar Alliance and the Renewable Energy Policy network for the 21st Century (REN21). To give a real-time exposure the executive trainees were also taken to the following site visits: Visit to National Institute of Solar Energy, Visit to Centre for Rural Development and Technology, IIT Delhi, Visit to Alternate Hydro Energy Centre (AHEC), Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

This Induction program also provided an opportunity to the Executive trainees to interact with senior working officials of IREDA, which helped them to not only understand the work culture of IREDA but also the process and methodology followed in IREDA.

IREDA Conferred with ‘Best Project Award of the Year 2018’ by Asian Development Bank

IREDA has been conferred with ‘Best Project Award of the year 2018’ by Asian Development Bank considering demonstration of its exemplary performance on the parameters such as Institutional set-up, financing performance, project management capability, performance on environmental and safeguard, etc. in respect of first tranche of loan availed by IREDA under Clean Energy Finance Program. The award was presented by Additional Secretary (Fund Bank & ADB), DEA, MoF Mr. Sameer Kumar Khare along with Mr. Hun Kim, Director General & Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama, Country Director, ADB (India) to Director (Finance) Shri S. K. Bhargava accompanied by GM (F&A) Dr. R. C. Sharma on 25th October, 2018.

IREDA has been sanctioned a Multitranche Financing Facility (MFF) of US$ 500 million by ADB for financing Renewable Energy projects in India. The Facility was approved on 30 October 2014. Out of the said facility, an Agreement for first tranche of US$ 200 million was signed on 27 October 2015 and the entire tranche was to be used on or before 30 April 2019. As against the milestone outcome set as per the Facility, IREDA exceeded its performance on all the milestones such as mobilizing additional private sector financing of US$ 540 million against target of US$ 400 million, building Renewable Energy projects of 481MW against target of 395MW and reduction of CO2 emission by up to 1.46 million tons/annum against target of 1.2 million tons/annum. IREDA has strong and competent technical and finance team which enabled it to manage each sub-project successfully and IREDA could fully utilize Tranche 1 seven months ahead of the scheduled closing date.

The Award was received by Shri N. Balaji, SM (ITS) and Shri Naveen Bhalla, SM (MIS) on behalf of IREDA during the Technology Sabha event organized by Express Computers held in Kochi during 14th-16th February, 2019.

IREDA Pavilion at 2nd Global Re-Invest 2018 Expo was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State (IC), Power and New and Renewable Energy Shri R K Singh accompanied by Secretary of State to the Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, France Ms. BrunePoirson on 3rd October, 2018 at Greater Noida. The dignitaries were briefed by CMD, IREDA Shri K. S. Popli about IREDA’s endeavors and achievements.

The projects commissioned, Govt. of India’s policies and various renewable energy technologies were displayed at IREDA pavilion. In order to inculcate the awareness about renewable energy amongst visitors, interactive sessions were also organized at the pavilion.
