As we enter the winter season, it is time to prepare for the College annual Children’s Christmas Party, a long-standing celebration bringing in numerous staff members, alumni and their families to campus. If you were part of the occasion in recent years, you must not forget the presence of Lady Santa with her husband. The Couple Claus is actually the very creation of Ms. Janet Chow, the Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK.

The story goes back to three years ago, when the College faced the problem of the retirement of the staff member who portrayed Santa. Ms. Chow, a member of the Staff Social Committee which was one of the Party’s organizing units, identified her own husband, Mr. Benson Cheng, as a possible candidate for the new Santa. “I would be your Mrs. Claus,” said Ms. Chow in persuading her husband. Side-by-side, they become the new popular icon in the Christmas Party.

Looking back, Ms. Janet Chow was admitted to CUHK and United College through the “Form Six Provisional Acceptance” scheme in the late 1980s. Her major was Computer Science. After graduation, s h e o b t a i n e d a M a s te r D e gre e i n B u s i n e s s Administration, also from CUHK. Her story in Chung Chi only began in 2001, and she calls this, “Destiny.”

踏入聖誕月份，一年一度的崇基聖誕兒童聯

歡會也快到了。每年有眾多教職員、校友及其家

人聚首，參加這項傳統活動。而提到近年的聯歡

會，又怎能不想起「聖誕老婆」和她的丈夫呢？

崇基的「聖誕老人伉儷」原來始於中大拓展及籌

募處處長周瑤慧女士。

二○一五年，聖誕聯歡會的籌備小組面臨一

個難題，就是上一位扮演聖誕老人的同事已退休。

教職員生活委員會是合辦單位之一，而周女士是

該委員會的中堅分子，便主動提議邀請她的丈夫

鄭建平先生為學院臨危受命，擔任聖誕老人一角。

為鼓勵丈夫，周女士一句豪言：「我會陪你做聖

誕老婆。」夫婦二人便並肩成為了聖誕聯歡會的

吉祥人物。

回首過去，周女士於八十年代末以「暫取生」

身分入讀中大，其後於電子計算學系取得學士學

位後，再攻讀商科並完成中大工商管理碩士課程。

when it was relocated to the new airport at Chek Lap Kok. As she wanted to spend more time with her little daughters, she looked for a new job near their home in Sha Tin, and that was why she sought for a position in her alma mater. Although she did not get the post she applied for, she impressed a member of her interview panel and received an alternative offer to work as the Director of Clinical Sciences Administration of the Faculty of Medicine.

And this is how her bonding with Chung Chi started. Her first major task was the preparation of the 1st Fun Run jointly organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Chung Chi. “Professor Sydney Chung, the then Dean of the Faculty of Medicine is a close friend of Professor Rance Lee, the then Head of Chung Chi. Professor Chung likes running very much; I guess this might be the reason for the birth of this event.” Though Ms. Chow humbly says that she had no experience in event management, the running contest turned out to be a great success. “I was relieved and felt like I had already passed the probation,” she says with a smile. Fun Run now becomes a celebrated annual event and it is also a starting point of Ms. Chow’s affiliation with the Chung Chi family.

She has been actively participating in College life and is now serving as a member of the Staff Social Committee and the Campus Environment Committee, where she utilizes her experiences and skills in human resources and event management and provides valuable aids. She commends Chung Chi’s great support network for making her involvements possible. “All that we have to contribute are ideas and participation. The o�ces of the College have great support staff executing our thoughts and plans. Participating feels like family time to me. No pressure at all.”

She says she is grateful that as a CUHK staff member, she has the privilege of a college a�liation that adds colours to her campus life. “Our social networks are important assets in life and work. I am thankful for the opportunities to get to know people

她是聯合書院的學生，而她和崇基的緣分則始於

二○○一年。那時，她首位僱主國泰航空正要遷

往赤臘角新機場，而她的女兒剛出生，居於沙田

的她便萌生轉工的念頭；她希望找一份就近的工

作減低通勤路程，以換取更多時間照顧稚女，因

此便想到回母校工作。雖然她沒有獲原來應徵的

中大部門聘用，但其中一位進行面試的醫學院主

管卻向她發出另一份工作邀請――醫學院的教習

醫院院務室主任，也因此輾轉地譜下了她和崇基

結緣的起點。

她上任後的第一項重要工作，便是籌劃由醫

學院和崇基學院合辦的第一屆春日緩跑。她回想：

「那時的醫學院院長是鍾尚志教授，而崇基學院

的院長為李沛良教授，他們很『老友』，加上

鍾教授很喜歡跑步，或許這便是促成此活動的原

因。」活動獲得圓滿成功，謙稱在學時從未籌辦

過活動的她亦如釋重負，她笑言：「感覺已通過

了『試用期』。」春日緩跑亦成為醫學院和崇基

一年一度的盛事，也播下種子，讓周女士以大學

行政人員的身分加入崇基的大家庭。

加入崇基後，她積極參與學院活動，現為教

職員生活委員會及校園環境委員會的委員，善用

她人事管理和活動籌劃的經驗服務崇基。「學院

負責執行的同事對我們有很強的支援，我們往往

只需要提供想法和出席參與。」她表示：「每次

協助活動都沒有任何壓力，就像出席家庭聚會一

樣。」

周女士的兩名女兒均在崇基長大，現時更在崇基唸書。

in the diverse college setting, a lot of whom I cross paths with again at work. It is a great blessing that we meet in Chung Chi.” She describes the college as the maternal side and the department the paternal side for one’s growth in CUHK. She is particularly appreciative to Professor Chung and Professor Lee and the experience in Fun Run, making CUHK her career, and Chung Chi her home.

Indeed, her home is on Chung Chi campus and this definitely plays a role in her many devotions, and integrating her 4-member household to the big college family. “My husband, two daughters and I are all CUHKers. Living on campus makes it natural for my daughters to join college happenings, like the Mid-Autumn Parade and Christmas Party.” Following her daughters’ admissions in CUHK, they both naturally pick Chung Chi again.

Approaching Christmas, Ms. Chow says her husband will continue his service as Santa Claus but she has a business commitment and Lady Santa has to take a break this year. “My hubby was a bit reserved to begin with, but he started to enjoy it more every year! We see ourselves in almost every photo. And it is a joy that every child recognizes us.” She concludes the people she met and the life in CUHK a blessing, and she is grateful to Chung Chi in providing her with pastoral support.

她認為書院參與不但可以調劑她的生活，對

她的工作也有不少裨益。「人脈是很重要的，透

過崇基活動讓我認識大學其他單位的同事，很多

時候又會在工作上遇到，合作起來更為順利。相

識就是緣分。」周女士比喻大學裡的書院為母親，

學系和部門為父親，書院關注個人生活上的成長，

學系則負責專業和學術上的提昇。她很感恩在崇

基結交到很多好朋友，其中，她特別感謝鍾尚志

教授和李沛良教授。對她而言，中大是她的事業，

而崇基則是她的家。

事實上她的家的確處於崇基校園，使她的家

人與她一起融入學院的生活。「我們一家四口都

是中大人。住在這裡，很自然我的女兒小時候也

會參加不同的學院活動，例如中秋提燈晚會、聖

誕聯歡會等。」兩個女兒長大後入讀中大，她們

順理成章地加入了崇基學院。

佳節將至，周女士表示今年丈夫會繼續擔任

聖誕老人，而她要出差，今年聖誕老婆要請假了。

「丈夫開始時比較內斂，但做得一年比一年投入。

大部分相片都有我們的身影，很開心小朋友都認

得我們。」她一再感恩在校園遇到的人與事，總

結道：「相識就是緣分。」崇基處處流傳著動人

的故事，啟導我們對人生的體驗。

1/資深股市分析員及評論員、崇基校友沈振盈先生（一九八七／企業管理）主講十月五日的崇基週會，題目為「為變化做好準備」。

Mr. Shum Chun Ying Louie, a senior �nancial analyst and commentator, and a Chung Chi Alumnus (1987/ General Business Management), was the guest speaker of the College Assembly on 5 October 2018. His topic was “To Prepare for Change”.

2/在十月十二日的崇基週會中，中大歷史系客席教授及名譽高級研究員丁新豹教授講述了香港社會五十至七十年代的歷史發展。In the College Assembly on 12 October 2018, Professor Ting Sun Pao Joseph, Adjunct Professor & Honorary Senior Research Fellow, Department of History, CUHK, spoke on the historical development of Hong Kong from 1950s to 1970s.

3/本學期舉辦之「藝術中與西」講座於十月十六日舉行，當日共有兩位講者，分別為著名旅美藝術家利漢楨教授（左）及香港藝術館館長（香港藝術）鄧民亮博士（右）。The “Art East and West” Seminar was held on 16 October 2018. The speakers were Professor Lee Hon Ching (left), a renowned artist based in the USA, and Dr. Tang Man Leung Raymond (right), Art Curator (Hong Kong Art) of the Hong Kong Museum of Art.

4/此外，利漢楨教授亦擔任木刻版畫工作坊的導師。為期三堂的工作坊於十月份舉行，利教授指導參加者製作自己的工具，以及畫、刻、印的過程。Professor Lee Hon Ching also served as the instructor of the Woodblock Printmaking Workshop in October 2018. Through the three-session workshop, the participants learned how to make their own tools, and the basic techniques of drawing, carving and printing.

崇基校友至善獎學金及崇基學院至善獎學金頒獎典禮Presentation Ceremony for Chung Chi Alumni Scholarship for Excellence and

Chung Chi Scholarship for Excellence (27/10/2018)崇基校友至善獎學金及崇基學院至善獎學金頒獎典禮已於十月廿七日舉行。學院校董、校友會代表、嘉賓、得獎生所屬中學校長及學系老師均參與頒獎典禮，祝賀共一百多名得獎同學。

The Presentation Ceremony for the Chung Chi Alumni Scholarship for Excellence and the Chung Chi Scholarship for Excellence was held on 27 October 2018. College trustees, representatives of College Alumni Association, guests, secondary school principals and department representatives of scholarship recipients joined together to extend their warm congratulations to around a hundred of scholarship recipients.

承傳與展望―區建公紀念書法比賽作品展（第四屆）Heritage and Prospects – Exhibition on Works fromthe 4th Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition

由崇基學院主辦之「承傳與展望――區建公紀念書法比賽作品展（第四

屆）」，將於本年十二月至明年一月舉行。獲校友靳杰強博士及甘潤嫻博士

的推動和贊助，學院本年度舉辦第四屆「區建公紀念書法比賽」，廣邀本港

中學及大專生參加，藉以推廣書法藝術。比賽分初中、高中及大專組，日前

評審委員已在多件作品中，選出各組冠、亞、季軍及優異獎共三十個獎項。

得獎作品將於本次展覽中展出，以示表揚，亦藉此讓各同學認識新同好，砌

磋書藝，再求精進。展覽同時展出部份評審委員之作品與區建公先生墨寶。

Organized by Chung Chi College, the exhibition “Heritage and Prospects – Exhibition on Works from the 4th Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition” will be staged from December 2018 to January 2019. With the patronage of the alumni couple Dr. Kan Kit Keung and Dr. Kam Yuen Han, the College has organized the 4th “Au Kin Kung Memorial Calligraphy Competition” in the first semester. The Competition aimed at promoting Chinese calligraphy among students from local secondary schools and tertiary institutions, from whom participation was invited. The judges have selected the First, Second and Third Prizes as well as Merit Awards for each of the Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary and Tertiary Sections of the Competition. A total of thirty winning entries will be put on view in the Exhibition, providing a platform for the award recipients and the visitors to learn from one another and together pursue advancement on the art of calligraphy. Selected works from the judges and calligraphy work by the late Mr. Au Kin Kung will also be exhibited.

拓展事務處已於校慶月籌辦「家肥屋潤」小豬領養人茶會，邀得院長方永平教授嘉許籌款額

最高的九位領養人，同時本處已陸續收到所有領養人的慷慨捐款，計劃成果令人鼓舞！有賴各位領

養人積極回應學院呼籲，是次小豬育成計劃共為「崇基學生發展綜合大樓」項目籌得超過港幣三萬

五千元。有請各位崇基人繼續支持學院的籌募活動！

Last October, celebrating the 67th anniversary of the College, nine caretakers were recognized by College Head Professor Fong Wing Ping. Meanwhile Development Office has received all donations contributed by caretakers. Thanks to all caretakers for their devotion, over HK$35,000 of donation was raised for “Chung Chi Student Development Complex” Project! Your continuous support in the coming months is deemed necessary to our youngsters’ brilliant future!

木玫瑰盆栽擺設義賣結果Result of the Wood Rose Pots for Chung Chi Fundraising

崇基學院資深導師莫邦豪教授慷慨捐出五盆木玫瑰盆栽擺設予學院義賣，截至十月三十一日，

五盆木玫瑰盆栽擺設悉數獲認捐。投得木玫瑰盆栽的人士將獲邀於明年三月木玫瑰開花的季節到訪

莫教授的花園，一睹木玫瑰盛放的美景。是次義賣共籌得超過港幣五萬二千元捐款以支持「崇基學

生發展綜合大樓」項目，值得慶賀！

Months ago Senior College Tutor Professor Mok Bong Ho donated several potted wood rose for the College to organize a Fundraising Auction. As at 31 October 2018, all five pots of wood rose are pledged, and successful bidders will be further invited to visit Professor Mok’s garden in March 2019, flowering season of wood rose. Thanks to Professor Mok’s devotion, Development Office is pleased to announce that the fundraising auction raised over HK$52,000 for “Chung Chi Student Development Complex” Project!
