2 - As técnicas de PMA não podem ser utilizadas para conseguir melhorar determinadas características não médicas do nascituro, designadamente a escolha do sexo.

3 - Exceptuam-se do disposto no número anterior os casos em que haja risco elevado de doença genética ligada ao sexo, e para a qual não seja ainda possível a detecção directa por diagnóstico pré-natal ou diagnóstico genético pré-implantação, ou quando seja ponderosa a necessidade de obter grupo HLA (human leukocyte antigen) compatível para efeitos de tratamento de doença grave.
