Written and published in Marathi by journalist, trade unionist, freedom fighter and author Vasant Pradhan during the Sanyukta Maharashtra Movement in the late 1950s. The Movement was started to demand a separate state for Marathi-speaking people with Bombay/Mumbai as its capital. Later, provinces in India came to be reorganised along linguistic lines.
