The Wesley Messenger Wesley United Methodist Church, Union City IN January, February, March 2014 Dear Wesley Friends, I write this shortly after our granddaughter Ellie’s first birthday party. As we drove away from the party Becky and I were almost overcome with gratitude for the way our Ellie is so surrounded by so much love. Certainly she has a tremendous family - both her Mommy’s family and her Daddy’s family - we love each other and enjoy being together. The in-laws deeply appreciate each other and partner together to support Ellie’s parents and to model for her how to live as a Child of God and love her neighbor. We rejoiced not only in our family but in the large group of Nick and Libby’s good friends … probably 8 young adult couples - all of them either toting around little babies or in the last month or two of their pregnancy for a first baby. This group of young couples live life together - they attend church worshipping and studying together, they serve the poor in their community, the share recreation, and they hold each other through tough and challenging days. God in Christ has known from the Beginning that all of us need this kind of supportive community. You probably know that while the Christian faith is very personal it’s never private. Jesus doesn't call any of us to be lone rangers in faith. Without each other, we become inwardly focused and our growth and development as persons gets stunted. Churches are also in need of Community. Ministry is done better and with much greater impact when churches work together in community with each other - learn from others’ experiences and traditions. This is one of the gifts of the United Methodist Church - our Connection with all other United Methodist Churches around the world - our impact can be ever-so-much greater because of this partnership. I’ve been pleased to experience how Wesley UMC already has a significant impact in Union City and the surrounding area, and I sense we can have even greater impact when we partner with others outside our familiar circle - other Union City area churches. What might that look like? Who are those partners for us? God is always doing a new thing and most of the time we struggle to keep up with Him. But we gain confidence when we realize what God has accomplished through us in the past. Let’s pray together for the next new thing God will do through you. Blessings on you all, Dave B.

Wesley Kids I am so proud of our Sunday School

children! Recently they set a goal to raise $250 to donate to the Union City Police Department to help purchase a new K-9 dog. The current K-9, Dino,

has reached retirement age. Our kids raised $1000 to give to the UCPD!!!! What an amazing, giving group of kids! They have also set their next giving goal. They wish to raise $300 to buy soccer balls and nets to give to the children of Roatan during the Wesley Mission Trip this June. During the trip this summer we will be building soccer goals there. This will be our children’s Sunday School Class contribution. We are also going to try and collect soccer cleats, socks, and shin guards. Never say that kids can’t change the world. These little kids are making a big difference!

Who is getting tired of the cold and snow? I have a solution! Mission Possible! Can you believe that we are only 4 months away from our mission trip? We will be traveling just like Jesus did, by boat. We are planning to leave Wesley United Methodist Church on June 5th in the evening. We will be arriving in Miami, Florida on June 6th. We will spend a night at a local church camp. On June 7th we board the Carnival Glory. We have mission projects lined up in Cozumel, Belize, Honduras, and Cayman Island. The first Sunday of the next four months we will be showing a video of our project at each of the ports. We have also decided to dedicate the next four months to prayer. In February we will be praying for Cozumel, Mexico. Ezekiel 22:30, “The Lord was looking for someone to stand in the gap for the land.” All month long we are asking the Wesley prayer warriors to stand in the gap for our mission work in Mexico. We are going to be working with orphan children and the elderly. James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled is to visit orphans and widows in their trouble.” That is our plan in Mexico. So be praying for the nursing home and the youth center that our missionaries will be working at with in June.

If you are signed up for this trip don't forget that your trip needs to be paid in full by April 15th. If you have any questions about your balance, please give me a call at 765-748-4345.
