Principal’s Greetings 校长前言 Welcome to a new school year! We hope that everyone had a fun and enjoyable time with family and friends during the holidays. A warm welcome to our Primary 1 pupils and their parents, as well as those who have just joined the Pei Chun family! We will be keeping you informed of the latest developments in the school through our regular Pei Chun Newsflash, Parent Notification (PN) and Pei Chun Story. Do keep a lookout for these publications so as to be informed about what is happening in the school. We encourage parents who are new to our school community to join the Parents Support Group (PSG). For more information on the PSG, please contact the Chairperson, Mdm Lisa Lim, at [email protected]. As we celebrate the beginning of a new year, it is also a good time to guide our children in planning what they would like to focus on and accomplish this year. In your conversations with your child on making the new year’s resolutions, you might wish to consider what your child had done well last year and how he or she could replicate the success to other areas this year. This will help them build their confidence and desire to do well. You could also help by coming up with broad categories for their resolutions and letting the children fill in the specific goals. These categories should focus on their holistic development. Hence, they should not be limited to the academic achievements but also include areas such as their social and emotional well-being which are equally important. Timely review of their goals and positive affirmation of their efforts will also help them in following through on their resolutions. Your encouragement and support will spur them on in their journey towards achieving their goals. As part of our efforts for continual improvements, we conduct a Parents’ Survey at the end of every year to gather your valuable feedback. Thank you for taking the time to share with us your feedback last year. Your inputs will help us focus on key areas for further improvements. We look forward to working with you as partners in ensuring an enriching and fruitful learning experience for our children. 当我们在欢庆新学年开始之时,这也是一个很好的时机去引导孩子们规划自己今年想要在哪

TEMPERATURE-TAKING EXERCISE & STUDENT WELL-BEING As part of our measures to maintain schools’ preparedness to resume the temperature-taking regime should there be a need to, a temperature-taking exercise will be conducted on 7 January (Thursday). We would like to seek your

assistance in ensuring that your child brings a working thermometer to school on that day. This temperature-taking exercise also serves to educate our pupils on the need to take personal responsibility for their own health and practise social responsibility. Please note that a one-time issue of the thermometer, free of charge, will be given to all P1 pupils in 2016. The thermometers will be issued by the Form Teacher on the day of the temperature-taking exercise. On this note, we would like to appeal to all parents/guardians to continue to exercise social

responsibility. If your child/ward is unwell, please seek medical attention for him/her as soon as possible and ensure that your child/ward is well before returning to school. Please encourage your child/ward to practise good personal hygiene at all times. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter would be much appreciated as this would complement what our school is doing to inculcate values of personal and social responsibility.

P1 AND P6 PHOTO-TAKING FOR NEW EZ-LINK CARD Date: 20 Jan 2016 (Monday) All P1 and P6 pupils are required to be in school uniform for the photo-taking.

VALUES-IN-ACTION PROGRAMME P2 ViA – KEEPING OUR CANTEEN CLEAN In January, our P2 pupils will embark on a canteen cleanliness project where they will keep their designated tables at the canteen clean after their meals. This is to provide an opportunity for our P2 pupils to show their love for the school by keeping the school environment clean. It is also in line with the P2 ViA theme ‘I love My School’. Through this project, we hope that our P2 pupils will learn to take ownership of the cleanliness of the places that they frequent such as the school canteen and the classrooms, and show care for the school cleaners who work hard to keep the school environment clean.

P6 STATIONERY DONATION DRIVE In line with the P6 ViA theme ‘I Love My World and Beyond’, we will be collaborating with Dunman High School to help needy children in ASEAN countries through a stationery donation drive. Primary 6 pupils will be involved in the promotion of the Stationery Drive to the Primary 3 pupils as well as the collection and packing of the donated stationery. Primary 3 pupils are encouraged to support their seniors by donating stationery such as pencils, rulers and erasers.

Through this stationery donation drive, we hope to instil in our Primary 3 and 6 pupils a sense of care and empathy for the underprivileged. This is part of our efforts to nurture our pupils to be proactive and caring leaders who care for others and take an active role in improving the lives of others around them. More details will be provided in a Parent Notification in due course.

LEVEL BRIEFING FOR PARENTS

Close communication and collaboration with our parents is of utmost importance to us. For better home-school collaboration, Level Briefing for P1, P4 and P6 are conducted for parents at the beginning of the year so as to enable parents to have a better

understanding of the various school programmes, subject-based banding, assessment modes and PSLE requirements. The P1 briefing for this year is scheduled to be on the first day of school, 4 Jan 2015. Due to space constraints, we would like to appeal to parents that there should not be more than two attendees for each pupil. This briefing is organised for parents/guardians and your child is welcome to attend. Parents who drive are urged to make use of the nearby public car parks as parking lots within the school compound are limited. Information disseminated during the briefing will be uploaded and made available at the school website (http://peichunpublic.moe.edu.sg) after the session. Feel free to contact us at 63539450 or [email protected] should you have any queries.
