DESCRIPTION

Javan gibbon is the rarest species of gibbon in the world. A diurnal and completely arboreal primate, hence requires a forest with closed canopy. It feeds mainly on fruit and leaves and lives all the year round in stable home ranges. Its habitat should comprise a great diversity of tree species. Their food sources is limited to small territory and always well defended by the member of the group. The daily travel activity of Javan Gibbon is at an average of 1,400 meters. The increasing number of population in Java has caused the tropical rainforest to decline drastically. Originally the animal occupied an area of 43.274 km2, but now it's only 1608 km2 or shrink to 96%. Beside that, the hunt pressure has made Owa Jawa as a favorite pet which threat its existence in the wild.
