In this issue of the JEC Magazine you will find an article on JEC’s recently established Integrated Building Management System (IBMS), where multiple systems in a facility or several facilities can be seamlessly linked into a single application. Following JEC’s commitment to environmentally sustainable technology, this system allows increased efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and significant savings in administrative resources and energy, and is one example of JEC’s focus on introducing new technologies to our customers.

JEC continues to encourage all of its employees to take part in community related events. In this regard, we are proud to see the dedicated contributions of JEC Hong Kong, JEC Thailand, and JEC Philippines to the welfare of the communities that we work in. More details can be found inside this December issue of JEC Magazine. JEC also continues to commit to safety, health, and environmental excellence through building on past accomplishments and focussing on continual improvement in our practices.

On 2 October 2008, Trane Thailand and Central Pattana Public Company Limited (CPN) have signed a Letter of Intent to buy high efficiency chillers for six new projects at CPN premium shopping centres valued over 200 million baht. In total, 10 CPN projects invested over 400 million baht in the Trane chiller in order to display good corporate citizenship and concern for environmental effects. Khun Surichai Patarakitnirun, Managing Director of Trane Thailand explained, “Trane’s high efficiency chiller is the most efficient, environmentally-friendly large scale air conditioner on the market. CPN will be able to reduce the energy used for cooling by 16 percent, saving the country 10,879 KW of energy, more than the entire generating capacity at Mae Ngad Somboon Chon dam in Chiang Mai (around 9,000 KW). This will help reduce more than 40,000 tons a year of Carbon Dioxide emissions, a major source of climate change.”

Public Company Limited簽訂意向書，藉此為

CPN高級商場的六個新項目供應高效能冷凍機，

個項目購入特靈的冷凍機，總金額超過四億泰

Newly Elected Deputy Chairman of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Building Services Division香港工程師學會屋宇裝備分部副主席Mr Frankie Chan, Operations Director of Trane Service Hong Kong, was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Building Services Division for the session 2008-2009 in July 2008. At the same time, Mr Chan was also appointed by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) as member of the Technical Taskforce on the Mandatory Implementation of the Building Energy Codes (BEC). Congratulations to Mr Chan.

On 25 September, 2008, JEC Philippines participated in the Association of Electronics and Semiconductor for Safety and Environment Protection (AESSEP) seminar series on Lowering Power Cost and Energy Conservation Technologies. AESSEP is a sub organisation of SEIPI (Semiconductor & Electronics Industries in the Philippines), of which JEC is a member and actively participates in activities focusing on semiconductor clients.

In the afternoon session, JEC Philippines Sales Engineer Mr Fletcher Bulatao gave a 45-minute presentation on “Environmental and Energy Efficient Maintenance using Ball Technic Technology” which led to positive responses generating an extended hour-long open forum. The seminar was attended by more than 70 decision makers, facilities managers, and pollution control officers from top companies such as Allegro, Analog Devices, Avanti, Continental Temic, First Gen., First Sumiden, Hitachi GST, Intel, Maxtronix Inc., NXP, On Semicon, and other semiconductor companies.

子及半導體安全與環保協會」（AESSEP）所舉

行之「降低電費及節能技術」講座。AESSEP乃

SEIPI（菲律賓半導體及電子業協會）的附屬組

織，而怡和機器正是SEIPI 的成員，並且經常參

與專為半導體客戶而設的活動。

在講座的下午環節，菲律賓怡和機器的銷售工程

師Mr Fletcher Bulatao發表了 45 分鐘的演說，

題目為「採用Ball Technic自動清洗技術以維持

環保及能源效益」。參加者反應良好，並因此展

開了個多小時的討論。該講座獲得 70 多名決策

者、設備經理及污染監控主任出席，他們均來自

Integrated Building Management System (IBMS) and Its Features Working with world-leading technology partners, JEC’s Building Automation Systems (BAS) Department now provides the Integrated Building Management System (IBMS) for existing and potential customers, allowing them to integrate all separate Building Management Systems (BMS) into a single, highly efficient, multi-service network infrastructure. Traditionally, each institution or corporation would install a variety of different systems in their buildings or facilities, and have different specialists manage these systems. Each time a monitoring or maintenance cross-check is required, more time and unique operation platforms are needed. IBMS’ integrated technology allows centralised and user-friendly control, monitoring, maintenance, and management.

IBMS also allows efficient, streamlined data recording, reporting and analysis. With appropriate setup, power consumption of multiple facilities can be predicted and adjusted accordingly, saving energy costs, while tailored weekly or monthly service reports allow customers to better manage equipment life cycles, avoiding unneccessary replacement or upgrade of equipment. IBMS can also be used for maintenance management, visitor management, time and attendance management, security, fire, and energy management, facilities’ booking, payroll management, tenant lease agreement / management, amongst others.

JEC’s Integrated Facility Management System (IFMS) for a leading University in Hong KongJEC is currently installing an Integrated Facility Management System (IFMS) for one of the oldest tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. The institution has multiple campuses in locations in Kowloon, covering about 50,000 square metres.

With close to 10,000 students using these campuses, it needed to optimise the utilisation of resources for more efficient operation. Different campuses had different vendors for their access control, CCTV and Building Management Systems, alarm and car parking systems, online booking systems, and monitoring systems, resulting in a

costly, inefficient and disconnected multi-level arrangement.

JEC’s IFMS system will provide this University with an expandable intelligent platform that integrates all campuses’ systems within one overarching structure. After the installation of the IFMS, an operation supervisor will be able to remotely access the IFMS through a web interface, turning it from a conventional into a digitised university. The IFMS is fully compatible with all existing BMS systems supplied by Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls and Sauter. It is user-friendly, multi-lingual, and facilitates timely data reports and analysis.

“With this project, we will work on minor cable installation in the evenings and on Sundays to reduce inconvenience for students and professors”, said Mr Martin Cheung, JEC’s Project Manager – Maintenance and Renovation. “JEC will also install several entry/exit columns, and barrier gates for this important project. When the IFMS’ first phase is completed in 2009, the University will begin to have an integrated facilities management operation that will optimise resources at lower running costs”.

SummaryThe idea of integrating building services systems for operation and cost improvements is not new, especially within developed economies. However, many leading building services systems manufacturers continue to use a high degree of proprietary technologies, which had previously made interfacing and integrating work cumbersome and costly. With increasing development of open industry standards and web-based technologies, software based solutions emerged to overcome these challenges.

JEC is pleased to partner with a world systems’ integration leader to bring about the benefits of such IBMS solutions to our customers in Hong Kong and throughout Southeast Asia. To date, JEC

has already installed IBMS systems at the Bangkok Bank and AIS Telecom in Thailand.

提供「整合式樓宇管理系統（IBMS）」，將

各個獨立的樓宇管理系統（BMS）整合成

單一的網絡設施，實現高效率的多元化服

務。一般來說，許多機構都會在其大廈裝

設不同系統，並委託不同專家進行管理；

然而，每當要進行交互監察或保養檢查

時，技術人員都要花費大量時間及使用特

別的操作平台。IBMS的整合式技術，則

可以中央化及簡易的方式，有效進行監

控、保養及管理等工作。

IBMS亦把數據記錄、報告及分析等功能

優化，發揮更佳效率。如配合適當裝置，

多個設施的耗電量亦因此可以預計及作相

告，方便客戶管理設備的生命週期，減少

生說。「IFMS第一期工程預計於 2009 年

本。」

總結把各種樓宇服務系統整合以改善營運及

成本效益，這個意念並非新鮮，在發達

國家尤其常見。然而，許多頂尖的樓宇

服務系統製造商，仍然大量使用專利技

術，致使連接及整合工程變得困難及成本

不菲。隨著開放業界標準（open industry

standards）及網絡為本技術發展成熟，軟

件為本的方案應運而生，成功克服有關困

難。

What was life like before JEC? I joined Jardines in 1995, and spent my first few years in the business process outsourcing field, through a joint venture with Salmat of Australia. This took me to the Philippines for three years and then to Australia for a further three, before I moved briefly to Hong Kong and then on to Malaysia. During this period I worked in a variety of roles including project management, sales management and general management. In 2002, I moved back to Hong Kong and spent a year with Jardine Aviation Services assisting them in a change programme, before becoming Executive Assistant to the Jardine Matheson Group’s Managing Director. In 2003 I joined Dairy Farm, initially as Business Development Director for IKEA Hong Kong and Taiwan, and then as General Manager of the IKEA business in Hong Kong. It was from Dairy Farm that I moved to JEC in August of this year.

What kind of challenges did you face in these roles and what do you bring to JEC? I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in several different countries and industries. From start-up businesses to more mature ones, in businesses with different corporate cultures and working with different ethnic cultures, I have learnt that there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer to the business challenges that one confronts. So long as you know where you are, and where you want to be as a business, then with adaptability, creative thinking, persistence, and most importantly, respect and teamwork, you will make

good progress towards your goals. I feel most privileged to join JEC which, since its inception 85 years ago, has continued to evolve by embracing new technologies, new customer needs, new markets and new ways of working. I am excited to be able to work with the JEC team in the next stage of our development together.

What do you do when you are not working?I have a young daughter and a son to keep me busy. My wife Kirsten is from Denmark - we met in an Italian restaurant in the Philippines in the late 1990’s. I thought that I was just going in for a pizza, and yet ten years later I find myself happily married with a wife and two children. My family love the outdoors and try to spend as much time as possible in the hills or on the water around Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a special place for me; my children are the fifth generation of my family to have lived or been born here, and I will never tire of the energy, enthusiasm and ‘can do’ spirit of the Hong Kong people.

加入怡和機器之前，生活是怎麼樣的？ 我於 1995 年加入怡和集團。最初數年，

我任職於集團與澳洲Salmat所組成的合

資公司，主要從事商業流程外包工作。這

項工作令我在菲律賓居住了三年，接著又

到澳洲逗留三年，其後又短暫地留居香

港，最後前往馬來西亞。在這段期間，我

擔任過不同崗位，包括項目管理、銷售管

理及一般管理等。在 2002 年，我返回香

港並於怡中航空服務集團工作一年，以協

助該公司落實改革計劃；接著，我出任怡

和集團董事總經理的行政助理。在 2003

年，我加入牛奶公司，起初擔任香港及台

灣宜家傢俬的業務發展總監，其後晉升

為香港宜家傢俬的總經理。直至今年八

月，我才從牛奶公司調職至怡和機器。

這些崗位曾給你什麼挑戰？你又為怡和機器帶來了什麼？ 我十分幸運曾在不同國家及行業工作。我

曾任職於新創辦的公司以及歷史悠久的機

構，也體驗過各種企業及民族的文化；這

些經歷令我明白，要克服業務上的挑戰，

絕對沒有萬試萬靈的公式。然而，只要你

明白自己在業務上所身處的位置，然後認

清目標，發揮靈活性、創意思考、毅力，

以及最重要的互相尊重及團隊精神，那麼

你將可朝著目標不斷邁進。我很榮幸能加

入怡和機器，畢竟這家公司自 85 年前創

立以來，一直勇於革新，以適應技術、客

戶需要、市場及營運方式等各種轉變，亦

因此能夠不斷茁壯成長。我十分高興能跟

怡和機器的同事並肩工作，合力為公司發

展寫下新的一頁。

閒暇時候，通常做什麼？我有一對年幼子女，這已夠我忙碌了。

我的妻子Kirsten來自丹麥 ── 我倆是

在 1990 年代末認識的，而邂逅地點是菲

律賓一間意大利餐廳。當時我只打算到

餐廳享用一客薄餅，豈料因為這個緣故，

十年後我便擁有一位太太及兩個孩子，

組織了幸福的家庭。我的家人都喜歡戶

外活動，故此經常遊覽香港的山丘及海

邊。對我來說，香港有著特別意義，因

為連同我的孩子在內，我的家族已有五

代人曾在香港居住或出世。再者，香港

人的活力、熱情及拼搏精神，常令我深

深讚賞。

Unforgettable eventsHaving worked in JEC for decades, Wong experienced numerous unforgettable events. One of them was the chiller adjustment work for Connaught Centre (the current Jardine House) in 1982. At that time, the building boasted an air-conditioning system with the biggest capacity in terms of refrigeration tonnes. The adjustment was a success and gave Wong great satisfaction. Another monumental project was the completion of Harbour City in 1984, in which Wong participated in the adjustment for its air-conditioning and water supply systems. In 1985, he received training in an air-conditioning plant in the US, and to gain knowledge on operation and maintenance, he visited New York’s World Trade Centre, whose chiller then boasted a capacity unparalleled in the world. In 1987 he was promoted to Technical Manager and assigned as a coordinator with manufacturers. He later hosted training courses to boost frontline technicians’ product knowledge and their maintenance and repair skills. These courses offering proper training were then a rarity in Hong Kong, and many seasoned technicians in today’s air-conditioning and refrigeration industry have benefited from these programmes.

Secrets of SuccessAside from continuous study, Wong likes to gather manuals of new products in order to analyze their mechanisms and designs. With regard to the secrets of success, Wong concludes that one should be enthusiastic about one’s work, keep learning, be pragmatic and seize opportunities, but he stresses that honesty is of the utmost importance. Since 1980, Wong

has handled underwriting management with honesty, successfully gaining trusts from all sides. He believes that one can achieve success by learning and working wholeheartedly. That is why he often advises the young to keep learning and approach people with sincerity in order to excel in their profession.

Retirement lifeWith wide-ranging hobbies like music, photography and travel, Wong hopes in his retirement to have more time for such interests and family life; particularly he is already a grandfather and enjoys the companionship of his lovely grandchildren.

難忘往事王先生在怡和機器工作多年，難忘事蹟實

在多不聲數，其中包括在 1982 年參與康

樂大廈（即現時怡和大廈）的冷水機組調

試工作，當時的康樂大廈擁有當時最大冷

噸的空調系統，能成功完成調試工作，很

有滿足感。當海港城於 1984 年落成的時

候，王先生也曾參與整個冷暖空調及供水

系統的調試工作。在 1985 年他更到美國

的空調廠廠房學習，並順道參觀當時在紐

約的世界貿易中心，對於它的冷噸冷水機

組運作及保養進行取經。在 1987 年被擢

升為技術經理後，他被指派為與廠方於技

術上的聯絡人；後來更成立技術培訓班，

加強前線維修技術員於產品上的認識及

提高保養維修的技巧，此培訓班是當時香

港少數正統的空調培訓課程，現時部份在

空調及冷凍行業有經驗的維修保養人員，

也曾經就讀於此。

成功之道除了不斷進修之外，王先生喜歡把新產品

的說明書收集起來，慢慢分析和細心研

究，使自己對每一樣新產品的運作原理及

結構，都掌握得一清二楚。他的成功之

道，除了敬業樂業、勿忘增值、做事要實

事求事和把握機會之外，最重要還是一個

「誠」字。從 1980 年到現在，王先生在處

理承保管理時，因「誠」而得到各方信任，

建立別人對自己的信心。時時以「誠」心

學習和「誠」心工作，無論做什麼事也可

成功。故此他經常勉勵年青一代要不斷學

習，並要以誠待人，才可在工作崗位上立

足。

退休生活王先生的興趣廣泛，包括音樂、攝影及旅

遊，他期望退休後有更多時間發展其興趣

Safety Comes First JEC’s efforts in the area of occupational health and safety (OHS) were rewarded in Autumn 2008, when JEC passed the certification audit of OHSAS 18001:2007 standard. The certification, the company’s first, is an excellent indication of JEC’s commitment to a well-managed OHS system.

”The importance of a safe and healthy working environment has grown strongly in recent years in a number of industries, not just because of safety legislations and the desire to reduce occupational safety risks, but also because it can help boost staff motivation and business efficiency,” says Mr Raymond Fung, JEC’s Safety & Environmental Manager.

companies. This category of activity must be constant, with elements relentlessly questioned, analysed and altered to be sure they are sustainable and ensure continued improvement. While critical, JEC believes this foundation – defining and documenting good practices – has a certain limit. In order to accomplish further, a next step in internalising a culture of safety by employees is necessary.

Safety CultureThere are several key components to building a strong safety culture. Firstly, a vision of success is necessary in order to discuss safety. Precise and repeatedly communicated objectives are integral to success, and these goals come from the senior management.

Secondly, creating ownership and accountability at all levels in JEC regional offices, through what JEC calls

goals, but the fruits of those efforts are now clear. Our project accident numbers are low: 2.11 incidents per 1,000 employees for over 3,000 staff in the region. That shows our efforts have been successful, but we are aiming to reduce these figures even further in the coming years,” he says.

‘Balance of Consequences’. This is an application of appropriate rewards and penalties for behaviour, actions, and results. Implementation runs from simple and spontaneous acts on a daily basis to structured procedures on a scheduled basis.

At JEC, business heads set the vision and provide all the needed resources to assure safe practices. They hold JEC accountable, and are themselves accountable, with yearly performance ratings, annual bonuses and future career opportunities tied to good Environmental Health & Safety performance. The manager / supervisor level comprises the individuals who can do the most to drive a safety culture. Again, their pay and career movement are tied to safety performance. This is the level where failure to perform is a critical problem.

In JEC, “no excuses” is the rule. If JEC employees have not been given the resources in terms of safety equipment, for example, it is their responsibility to stop work until they are provided them. Our engineers / supervisors are empowered to make decisions and take actions needed to meet safety goals. In short, management level makes decisions on a daily basis. They are the ones who must live and breathe “Safety First”, even if JEC loses profit in the short term.

As for workers on the project front, this is where it all comes together. JEC’s technicians and engineers

know that unsafe behaviour is grounds for immediate dismissal. While the manager / supervisor must hold them responsible, he or she must also constantly reinforce what are acceptable and unacceptable practices. They must create an environment where employees are constantly and proactively making suggestions for health and safety improvement. This is the level where verbal recognition makes a real difference. The manager / supervisor level is also the level where the instantaneous and consistent practice of warnings and terminations for repeated offences must be executed. JEC encourages staff to recognise one another visually, peer-to-peer, to increase a sense of ownership over safety concerns.

These practices may vary by project, or on a day-to-day basis, but they are repeated processes put in place by JEC business heads. However, even when a strong culture of safety is created – when all the planned training and motivating is done – it is possible to top out and cease to improve, reaching a second ceiling.

This is when the top of our safety strategy comes into play: the area of intangibles.

IntangiblesEven the strongest OHS programmes can lose momentum unless a category of intangibles comes into play. The

intangibles are hard to define and not necessarily something JEC can institutionalise or mandate with specific programmes. JEC needs to strive to find ways to drive home the consequences of accidents and change behaviour on a person-by-person basis. At JEC, to reduce accidents and incidents it is essential for all staff to understand the personal consequences of injuries to employees and their families. In one instance, an injury was communicated to all 3,000 employees around the region by means of a “Safety Alert” detailing the incident.

Urgency of communication is key. It underscores that everyone is paying attention and taking safety seriously, minute by minute. The mantra ‘Safety Comes First’ must be repeated constantly. The goal is to help staff internalise the serious personal consequences of unsafe practices.

To accomplish this difficult feat requires active support of all business heads, who play a key role in safety performance improvement. In conclusion, the intangibles require creativity and naturally spring from introducing the right work processes and working hard to design policies and procedures that institutionalise a culture of safety. A key challenge is to keep this at the top of mind of all personnel, and to ensure this, JEC continues to encourage leadership by example and continual education and improvement.

Industrial accidents index dropped sharply after implementation of the OHS Management System in 2004, to 5.5 /1000 in 2005, and further declined to 2.33 in 2007 (JEC Record Year).

內逾三千名員工中，每千名僱員只有

2.11 宗事故。這反映公司的政策奏效，

之間培養安全文化。

安全文化要建立良好的安全文化，必須注意數個

主要部分。首先，公司要訂立衡量標準，

方可有效討論安全問題。要成功建立安

全文化，公司必須準確及反覆地把安全

目標廣為宣傳，而此等目標必須由高級

管理層清晰確立。

第二，怡和機器各地區辦事處的員

工，都應透過怡和機器的「結果抵償

（Balance of Consequences）」機制，培

養對工作的投入感及責任感。有關機制

旨在就行為、行動及結果作出恰當的獎

勵與懲罰。落實方法包括日常之簡單及

即時的行動，以至定期的結構性程序。

在怡和機器，部門主管負責訂立目標，

並就安全實務提供所需資源。他們除要

求怡和機器克盡責任，自己本身也須負

上責任，落實方法包括把年度表現評估、

年度花紅及晉升機會與環境健康及安全

所變動，但怡和機器的部門主管必須反

覆地落實有關程序。然而，即使建立了

良好的安全文化（即落實所有已計劃的

培訓及激勵活動），安全表現亦有可能達

致頂點，未能再進一步，只能徘徊於某

個水平。

在這階段，我們便須進行安全策略的最

高層次：無形的影響。

無形的影響即使最完善的OHS計劃也會漸漸失效，

因此必須運用無形的影響。無形的影響

難以界定，而怡和機器亦不能透過特定

計劃而使影響制度化或成為指令。怡和

機器必須想方設法，讓每位員工都明白

意外的後果，並因此改變其行為。在怡

和機器，為減低意外及事故數字，所有

員工都必須明白受傷對員工本身及其家

人的後果。舉例，公司便曾透過「安全

警報」，向區內全體三千名僱員講述一宗

受傷事件。

迅速的溝通至為關鍵。這要求每人時刻

都注重安全。公司也必須定期宣傳「安

全第一」的口號，致使員工能深切明白，

不安全的實務可帶來嚴重的個人後果。

要達成這艱巨任務，所有部門主管都需

要積極提供支援，原因是他們對改善安

全表現起著關鍵作用。總括而言，無形

的影響講求創意，並且必須要引進正確

的工作流程，致力制訂能培養安全文化

的政策及程序，方能形成這種影響力。

箇中的一大挑戰，是要令全體員工時刻

緊記安全；為此，怡和機器必須持續透

過範例、教育及改善工作，帶領各人提

高安全表現。

In addition, each management trainee is assigned their own supervisor, tutor, and mentor, to provide them with customised experience sharing. Further development opportunities are provided through inviting the eager learners to the JEC Group Briefing and CEO Breakfast.

JEC also provides a wide range of insight for trainees to understand JEC’s management styles, and also those of other corporations, through visits to the backbone operations of leading companies. Past visits have introduced trainees to the warehouse

of Wellcome supermarket, the frontline operations of Pizza Hut, the leadership and safety culture of Gammon Construction Limited and the terminal and airport services of Jardine Aviation Services, amongst others. These varied experiences both broaden the management trainees’ business sense and adapt them to the commercial environment.

Starting from August 2008, these trainees started their two-year rotational training and will be participating in the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Scheme A simultaneously. JEC also encourages all trainees to learn, grow, and develop, and importantly, to participate in the JEC family’s entertainment and after-work activities.

On 5 September, 2008, Khun Bhavin Vanuptikul and Khun Surasak Kositcharoenkul, on behalf of JEC Thailand, attended the handover ceremony of the audio laboratory at the Bangkok School for the Blind. The donation of air-conditioner installation services to the school will provide a more comfortable environment to the volunteers and allow them to produce better learning materials more effectively.

On 6 September, 2008, the JEC Caring Team, in collaboration with St. James Settlement of Central and Western District, organised a “Mid-Autumn Festival Happy Union” party for the elderly in the district.

With the party programmes heating up the festive atmosphere during the party the participants overcame their shyness and joined in the fun. Elderly guests ended up singing together with the JEC Caring Team, especially during “Mahjong Winner” and singing programmes.

JEC Goes Red and Yellow for ‘Dress Special Day’怡和機器為「公益服飾日」籌款

On 30 September, 2008, JEC staff in Hong Kong participated in the Community Chest Dress Special Day, one of the most popular fund-raising events in Hong Kong. JEC set up a theme of wearing ‘Red and Yellow’, which marks the Chinese National flag, as Dress Special Day was the day before National Day. With many JEC staff supporting this meaningful event, it was a highly successful event displaying JEC’s commitment to community contribution.

On 18 October, 2008, the Mental Health Association of Hong Kong organised “The Hong Kong Football Cup for Rehabilitation 2008”, a friendly match between a celebrity football team and opponents comprising both rehabilitated members and JEC Caring team representatives. The event aimed to encourage rehabilitated individuals to improve their social skills through taking part in sports events and also promoted their integration back into society. Ms Alice Wong, Chairman of the JEC Caring team, was invited to officiate at the opening ceremony of the event as the guest of honor.

On 19 October, 2008, JEC accomplished outstanding performances in the third annual Central Rat Race organised by Hongkong Land. Many congratulations to the participating JEC team, who finished a series of obstacles with the fastest time record. This event successfully raised HK$2.3 million for Mindset, a registered charitable organisation that supports mental health-related organisations and projects in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Also many congratulations to Mr Alex Newbigging, JEC Chief Executive, who won the Big Rat Cup for individual senior executives.

Champion 2008 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition awarded to JEC Mechanic 怡和機器技工榮獲「2008 全港青年技能比賽」冠軍

Congratulations to Mr Chan Tip Luen, Mechanic from JEC’s Maintenance and Renovation Department, for winning the Championship for the 2008 Hong Kong Youth Skills Competition in the ‘air-conditioning’ category. Mr Chan joined JEC as a Craft Apprentice in 2005, and was promoted to a Mechanic in 2008. The Competition is jointly organised by the Vocational Training Council (VTC), the Clothing Industry Training Authority, the Construction Industry Training Authority and the Industrial Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with strong support from industry, commerce, and tertiary institutions. The annual competition aims to encourage youth, at or under 21 years old, to excel in their respective industry.

Further to the competition, Mr Chan will now undergo training with the possibility of being selected to represent Hong Kong in the World Skills Competition, which will be held in 2009 in Canada.
