Hope Lodge presents the challenge of creating a place of sanctuary and relief in the middle of a historic district of downtown Dallas. The design respects its context while offering a place of refuge for cancer patients and their caregivers. The form of the building surrounds a healing garden that is visible directly upon entering and is accessible from all communal spaces.

  • The design of the Montopolis Community Center offers careful intersections of a variety of programs that allow for unique interactions of different activities and communities. By expanding beyond the typical constraints of the gym, the track component creates points of overlap and overview that makes it more than just a continuous monotonous loop. Instead the track serves as a stage, a reflection and display of activity, and a common point for a diverse neighborhood.

  • When suggesting architecture to house heavy ion carbon therapy technology, the forefront of cancer treatment in the world, two alternatives were proposed. The first design symbolically celebrates the heart of the technology and the healthcare teams that make the technology feasible, with a central drum that attracts patients and scientists to the technologies epicenter. The other design option suggests the opposite approach, covering the technology in a veil and isolating the patient-oriented portion in a low-scale pavilion.

  • In rowing, the destination is not the rowing center itself, but instead the water. The design of this rowing center on Lady Bird Lake was based on complimenting and glorifying the transi-tion between land and water. The center also carefully exposes the inexperienced rowing population to the unique sport while maintaining the ease of the change from land to water.
