Traditional building systems and material use is compositional and based in systems of disconnected layers. Often the techniques of textile production are

used only as a metaphor. This thesis suggests that there is a possibility to create

systems and use materials in a cohesive way using traditional textile production leading to a more specific,

    responsive, and higher performing building.

  • The program this thesis will focus on is a textile campus; a space that allows for the research, manufacturing and selling

of textiles and textile based technologies. This program exists in the intersection between many disciplines, including

architecture, interior design, design and technology, and fashion.

As a connection between many disciplines in the New School community, the site for this thesis will be the previous fashion building located in the fashion district in Manhattan on the corner of 40th street and 7th avenue. Using this existing structure, this thesis aims to maintain the schools presence in this neighborhood as well as creating new spaces for interaction and discovery for students whose disciplines

    rarely overlap.
