蔡守瑋TSAI ,SHOU-WEI

TSAI,SHOU-WEI, Male, born in January 22, 1986, Taichung, Taiwan. A

typical Aquarius, often have unusual ideas in my brain. I live in Taiwan

and have unimaginable, unparalleled passion for this island. Love it's

culture and beautiful, dream that one day can let the world know this

beautiful and lovely island. Graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University

Department of Applied Art in June 2008,majoring in graphic design,

specialized in posters, books art and paper-cut illustrations. One and

a half year working experience in commercial design company as art

designer. Most of my customer were government agencies. Beside my

daily work, I've also done a lot of small but creative programs. Because

most of the works were created during evening, so this black book

majority for my creative works, or artistic works.

蔡守瑋，男，1986年1月22日生於台灣台中，標準的水瓶座，腦

袋中時常有天馬行空的想法。從小生活於台灣，對台灣這個寶島

有著超乎想像、無與倫比的熱情，熱愛這片土地的文化與美好，

夢想著有一天可以讓世人知道這個美麗又可愛的地方。2008年6

月畢業於輔仁大學應用美術系，主修平面設計，專長是海報、書

籍裝禎與剪紙插畫。工作經驗1年半，在商業設計公司當中擔任

美術設計，客戶大多為政府機關，在工作之外，也接了很多較小

型、較為藝術性的工作，因為創作的時間大多為晚上，所以這本

黑色的書當中的作品大多為我的創作、或是比較藝術性的作品。

Goddess Matsu has become the most widely worshipped

deity in Taiwan. When people pray to Goddess Matsu and ask

what they need to know, the God would answer them through

fortune sticks. The read-out mainly comes out through poetic

expression. This project is planned to combine the former

sixty fortune poems with a new one. We created something by

fusing the old culture and the new comer in to one.

This work also won the gold award in the New Generation

Design Competition 2008.

上上籤

在台灣媽祖是最普遍的信仰，人們有

疑惑的時後會向媽祖請求旨示，而媽

祖則用籤詩向祈求的民眾解答疑惑，

籤詩大多用隱喻的方式承現，這個案

子就是重新利用舊有的60

個籤詩，加

上新一代的解釋，呈現新舊融合，把

舊的文化重新包裝。

60張籤詩用60個剪紙來承現新的

詮釋，其中用黃、綠、藍、桃紅、

橘，來表現其中的金、木、水、火、

土，表現出籤詩中五行的概念。

為了提升作品的完整性，製作了香袋

與金色的杯，(

在拜拜的時後會出現的

器具與用品)

，又加上平安袋(

台灣人

在摩拜後，會在布袋中裝取一些香，

帶在身上，祈求平安)

，始其完整的表

現中國的信仰特色。

本籤詩用經折的方式承現，不只是因

為這是中國最古老的裝禎方式，也是

因為中國傳統信仰中的書籍都是使用

此種方式裝禎，另外封面中的金箔則

是表現出了這是神的器具(

這個作品也在二零零八年的新一代設

計展中得到平面組金獎。

60 fortune poems are shown with 60 paper-cut models which have the five different colors

－ yellow,green,blue, pink,orange to imply the image of metal, wood, water, fire and earth --

the five elements in ancient Chinese philosophy and fortune-telling.

The poems on the fortune sticks are taken down to the writing folds, not only because it is

the most traditional way of bookbinding in Chinese culture,but also a manner used by our

old ancestors to publish their books. Besides,the gold foil plated on the cover of the file is a

symbolism in appliance with the holy spirits.

(It is believed that gold is the color for the Goddess and silver is for the ghost )

For the purpose of having this subject close to perfect,we have made something really different,such

as: sachets in addition to golden tea cups(a kind of offering),and charms against evils(after greeting a

god,the Taiwanese may put some ashes of burned out incense into a bag to pray for safety).

This completely shows the characteristics of Chinese people's belief and faith.

The gold foil plated on the cover of the file is a symbolism of an appliance of the Holy spirits.

(It is believed that Golden is the color for the Goddess and Silver is for the ghost )

Zhou Gong Jie Meng is written in ancient Chinese literature

Chinese people believe the dream is the mirror of true life.

Therefore, they make use of dreams to predict an event before it really happened.

The book has classified dreams, and tells the reader about the meaning of them.

Why does it have to be in black and white colors?

The black color represents the night ,while the white color represents the daytime.

The reading in black is printed in transparent ink, while the one in white is done with fluorescent

ink.

So we can look up what the dream is about in the book without turning on the light.

We should also know the black one has to be read in the daytime,and the white vice versa.

It is also a conception of the circulation of day and night.

境反應現實，所以常利用夢境

來預言，本書內容上以夢境分

類，分門別類個種夢境各代表

什麼意含。因為是有關於夢境

則以夜光油墨印刷，這樣晚上

abnormalities in China. The poster was printed for the

“the Collection of Shan hai jing” Application of

the monsters in the book and China Red demonstrate

the features of the Shan hai jing.

那本書就是山海經，

這張海報是為了山海經收藏展所做的海報，

用了當中的鬼怪與像徵中國文化的紅，

來表現山海經的特色。

Posters of global warmingIn Chinese culture , monsters are considered to be responsible for disasters.

That is to say, the evil spirits which cause floods, conflagrations as well as

earthquakes in Shan hai jing are also the ones to be blamed for global warming.

This series of posters try to alert us to the fact that the monsters are the products of

human beings, so as global warming.

Actually,the monsters of the books are the embodiment of human creature.

把山海經

引起火災、水災、與地震的怪物，

與全球暖化所出現的情況相呼應，

試圖提醒人類，鬼怪是人創造的，

暖化的問題也是人類製造的，

那些書籍中的怪物，

其實都是人類的化身。

ineapple),tasty food(steamed dumpling, zongzi),as well as animal species(Sika deer,Taiwan

orchid, Milkweed butterflies). With the most traditional paper-cutting technique to form the

shape of Formosa.

概念

桃花源是中國古代文學家所寫的一篇文章，

內容是在訴說有一個男子，

誤闖了一個世外桃源，

那裡沒有小偷，沒有病痛，四季如春，

老人和小孩都很快樂和諧，

是一個大同世界，

和現今的世界相比，

真的是一個完美世界，

做這張作品時，

台灣的政治動蕩，所以才會有感慨，

做出了這個作品。

Concept

“Recording of Arcadia”is an article written by Chinese ancestors.

The story goes like this

One man mistakenly found the entrance of Xanadu

where there were no thieves, no diseases, and no cold winters

Besides, the elders and the children all lived delightfully.

It was really a world that couldn't be better.

The society nowadays is in a terrible mess.

That's why I created this piece of art.

在這張海報用蝴蝶迷戀上花做為靈感，

蝴蝶吸食了有毒的花朵，

雖然牠知道有毒，

但是還是不能克制，

最終自己也慢慢死亡。

當初做這張海報時

就是不想要與一般的反毒海報太相近，

所以利用比較唯美和殘酷的視覺

來吸引大家的注意力。

more relaxed, free style of dance in which choreographers use emotions and moods to design their own steps,

概念

為台北夜生活所設計的海報，

台北是個夜生活很活躍的城市，

用了在夜店癮君子抽煙常出現的煙霧為靈感，

做出了這一張海報，

煙只有在黑色的背景才會顯現，

正如夜生活在晚上才剛開始，

雖然煙霧美麗又另人沉醉，

但它也一樣會隨風而逝，

而且沒有實體，

就像那些沉迷於夜生活的人。

Concept

The poster is to praise the night life of Taipei city.

Taipei is known as a city with vivid night life.

The smoke filled the air of the night club.

That really gave me a pretty good inspiration!

The white smoke can be seen on the dark side,just as night life only begins

under the dark sky.

Though the smoke itself is so charming and enchanting.

But it is not real,my friend.It has just gone with the wind.

Just like the people indulging themselves in night life.

This is a case cooperation with the Tourism Bureau and China Airlines.

After careful consideration ,I adapted paper-cutting crafts with the features

of Taiwan. Including Taiwan's unique dishes(Taiwan is a paradise of tasty

food),unique cultures(the special belief),unique views(Taipei 101) and the last

one---unique creatures(the native beings of Taiwan).

The booming of problems caused by global warming pushes me to do something.

As you can see in this picture,there are three planets named“Nature , People(Earth)

,and Soul.

Personally,I think people should explore their inner world and have a conversation

with the natural world as well.

What makes the difference between us and the other animals?

It's the ability to think over and to find out whether something is wrong or it is not.

That's just the right way to solve your problems.

So,we not only have to start a conversation with nature,but also with our deep

inside.

讓我興起了想做這張作品的念頭，

這張作品有三個星球，

我認為，

除了不斷的與自然對話之外，

人也應該往自己的內心去探索，

After we graduate,

What the members of society talk to you about seems like they really care about you,but it is not.

In reality,they try to pry what's inside of you.

They treat you as if you are a friend of theirs,but the truth is they are not.

Maybe years later, you will get used to it or think it will be fine.

I was almost a member of those people.

This artwork reminds me of something I should never forget---“the remainings”.

概念

今年的中國新年是虎年，

所以一開始發想就是想要做出，

既現代但是又東方的賀卡，

最後，

決定放上老虎在雲中奔躍的圖像，

象徵在新的一年，

可以像這些老虎一樣，

跳過那些不好的事情，

Concept

Chinese New Year in 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, so at the first thought,I wanted to do

a card that is not only modern but it is also of the East.

Finally, I decided to put the tiger in the clouds to jump over those clouds.

It's a symbol that in the new year, we can do the same as the tiger, skip those bad

things, and then have a very happy year.

Concept

The three layout practice is done in order to practice different

styles, namely the modern Eastern , Western style, and finally on

the top is the integration of the two styles.

Books “ re-made”

The exhibition was held by a publisher and many artists were on their guestlist

The artists were advised to re-create books they had published before.

For this purpose ,I cut the pictures out of the my former books then added some cloth

to the finished one.

I successfully have my books re-made with “cloth”

When asked about how to attract other's attention, people

may have different opinions.

My answer to the question is to lighten a spotlight or a

light bulb especially in the dark.

So I winded these LED bulbs around my body then

walked in the night.

Make an attempt to catch everyone's eye.

欲望

Desire

Concept

In my opinion , newborn babies are the ones who have the least desire

However ,as time flows, we are not satisfied about what we possess.

In other words ,we want more and more things with time.

The photos tell us of desire which can be comparied with clothes.

When people grow up ,their clothes become larger as well.

Besieged with our desire ,we will find it difficult to behave ourselves.

概念

對我來說，剛出生的小孩是最沒有

欲望的時後，但是隨著年紀的增

長，人們的欲望會漸漸的變大，

所以我用衣服來代表欲望。並用照

片表現在成長的過程中，欲望就像

是一件衣服，會越來越大，最後我

門會被欲吞噬，難以行動。

概念

此系列用掃瞄機掃瞄人體，在小框

框中扭曲的人體，其實代表了在社

會壓力下的人類，但是縱使如此，

還是不可以忘記自己的純真與熱

情，所以用玫瑰代表熱情、百合代

表純真，希望那些特質一樣在人心

中成長、茁壯。

Concept

This series of pictures are made with a scanner.

The distorted human body in the little frame is on behalf of the people under

social pressure.

Even though, the passion and the innocence should always be remembered.

So I decorated the painting with roses of passion and lilies of innocence

Wish those two virtues could always be kept in everyone's mind and grow to

maturity.

概念

這系列圖片也是用掃瞄器製作的，

家中養的金魚剛好死亡，所以用掃

瞄器記錄下來，確意外的美麗，這

種隨機意外的效果，是我在做設計

的時後最喜歡的部份，有時後無意

識的做法卻產生出奇的效果。

Concept

The scanner also works in this series of art.

Someday ,my gold fish died.

So I was thinking about what I could do with the body.

Suddenly ,a crazy idea came to my mind.

Why could't I use my scanner to keep its beauty.

The outcome is more than good.

It's wonderful!

I love this part.

To design a piece of work without rules, just let it be.

Sometimes you will get a surprisingly good answer just like that.
