Volume LXXXVI Issue IV April 2018 As we draw closer to the end of the 2017-2018 term, Pennsylvania DeMolay is drawing closer to our final weekend event at Patton Campus. Now for our inspiration, we could have gone anywhere, looked at any time period, or chosen any event in human history. However, we decided to base our final event, our grand finale on a plucky motoring showfilmed in a place whose name can be translated to mean sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides. That being said, from May 4th to the 6th, Pennsyl- vania DeMolay will be hosting its final event of the term at Patton Campus: The Grand Tour Week- end. This event will be based around all of the wacky antics of the Amazon Prime hit show of the same name and those of its presenters - Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. In addition to this, we will be hosting workshops featuring topics both pertaining specifically to DeMolay and some more general real world skills.Just as the European Grand Tours of old sought to create more well-rounded individuals, we will help to create more well-rounded DeMolays. More information will be released in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout to make sure you dont miss this opportunity to attend the greatest Patton Campus event in the world. As we draw closer to the end of the 2017-2018 term, Pennsylvania DeMolay is drawing closer to our final weekend event at Patton Campus. Now for our inspiration, we could have gone anywhere, looked at any time period, or chosen any event in human history. However, we decided to base our final event, our grand finale on a “plucky motoring show” filmed in a place whose name can be translated to mean “sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides.” That being said, from May 4th to the 6th, Pennsyl-vania DeMolay will be hosting its final event of the term at Patton Campus: The Grand Tour Week-end. This event will be based around all of the wacky antics of the Amazon Prime hit show of the same name and those of its presenters - Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. In addition to this, we will be hosting workshops featuring topics both pertaining specifically to DeMolay and some more general “real world skills.” Just as the European Grand Tours of old sought to create more well-rounded individuals, we will help to create more well-rounded DeMolays. More information will be released in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout to make sure you don’t miss this opportunity to attend the greatest Patton Campus event in the world. Along with the festivities of the Grand Tour, the weekend will also host the RD of the Year competi-tion and the Obligatory Days Competition. The RD of the Year will be decided by individual interviews scheduled by invitation only. The Obligatory Days Competition will be open to all Chapters, so make a presentation plan for your three best obligatory days.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines for the Daytona 500 Charity Program! Pennsylvania DeMolay’s Daytona 500 is a regional charity competition to see which Region can raise the most funds for the State Charity, the Children’s Dyslexia Cen-ters of Pennsylvania. Here’s how it works: Each Chapter will be working with their respective region. For each dollar your Region raises, you will have traveled one mile in the race. There are 500 miles in the Daytona 500, so you have from now until May 1st to get out there and fundraise for

the Children’s Dyslexia Centers to complete the race and beyond. There will be a secret and special prize for the winners of the Daytona 500 to be announced at the Grand Tour Weekend, so get your Region on the winner’s podium this May, PA DeMolay!

For all of the PA Masonic youth groups, the summer is the busiest time of the year. With school letting out for the summer, this makes it the perfect time for us to get together to have some fun, hold our meetings, and take care of business. Here are the events that are taking place during the summer:

The annual Pennsylvania DeMolay Convention will be held on July 20-22, 2018 at the Eisenhower Hotel and Convention Center in Gettysburg. Mem-bers of PA DeMolay get together to have lots of fun, vote on their Elected State Officers, and receive awards and scholarships. More details will be mailed out soon, with the deadline for Convention registration being June 1st.

The LifeSkills Conference, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Masonic Youth Foundation, will be held at the Masonic Conference Center—Patton Campus in Elizabethtown on July 22-27, 2018. This week-long conference teaches social skills and life lessons that help young men and women succeed in their daily lives. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis, so register early.

KeyMan University is a week-long leadership conference held at the Masonic Conference Center—Patton Campus from August 4-10, 2018. This conference allows members of DeMolay to learn about DeMolay in the area they want to learn the most about. Offered departments include Ritual Performance, Event Planning, Chapter Leadership, Interpersonal Development, Communications and Media, DeMolay Education, and Brotherhood and Membership. Online registration is now available and can be accessed at keyman.pademolay.org.

On June 2nd, 2018, Pilgrim Chapter will be hosting a Paintball event for the Chapters of Central Pennsylva-nia. The event will take place at Ski Roundtop from 12-5 PM. The goal of this event will be to provide an op-portunity for all the Chapters to bring their prospective members out for an afternoon of fun and brotherhood, as well as to learn about DeMolay. The cost is $35 for DeMolays, but prospects get to attend for free. Waiver forms are required to play. Please RSVP by May 26th.

In addition to the Paintball event, a Regional Induction Class will be held on June 30th to induct any prospects who wish to become members of DeMolay. While these events will be targeted towards the Chapters and members of Regions D & E, we would like to invite all of the Chapters of Pennsylvania to come out and join us. If you’d like more information, please reach out to [email protected].

Paintball With Prospects Tyler Moyer, Deputy State Master Councilor

Caridad, φιλανθρωπία, caridade, and Nächstenliebe are all the same thing that citizens donate to throughout their lives to give to those in not the best of conditions; charity. The word charity is derived from the Olde French word charité meaning “(Christian) charity, mercy, compassion; alms; charitable foundation.” The concept of charity is part of the defining characteristics of the Masonic fraternity. Every branch of the Masonic family tree has a charity (at least one, if not multiple) that they have decided to support. To name just a few: Job’s

Daughters supports the Hearing Impaired Kids EndowmentFund; Rainbow supports My Stuff Bags; the Shriners supports Shriners’ Hospital; and Grotto fundraises for Dental Care for Children with Special Needs. Every year, Pennsylvania DeMolay has the goal of having each chapter donate to the State Charity, the Children’s Dyslexia Centers, no matter how much is donated. Even one dollar will help a student work past the differences in how their brain is wired to be successful and push past the crowd.

Become an Elected

State Officer

Have you ever thought about becoming an Elected State Officer? A letter of intent must be submitted to the Executive Officer by May 15th. The letter needs to be signed by yourself, a parent, the Chapter Advisor and the Advisory Council Chairman of your Chapter. Elected State Offices include Deputy State Master Councilor, State Senior Councilor, State Junior Councilor, and State Scribe. The new by-laws also require an event plan to accompany your letter of intent. Review the bylaws, which can be found on the PA DeMolay website, to find out which event will need to be planned for the office you intend to run for. Submissions can be mailed to the PA DeMolay office.
