Les Journées Médiévales  

Cantigas de Santa Maria Le dimanche 19 avril 2015 de 13h30 à 21h00

Une deuxième Journée Médiévale Fort du succès de sa première édition, le FMM vous invite à célébrer l'arrivée du beau temps lors de sa deuxième édition des Journées Médiévales. De nouveau, la journée comprendra un atelier participatif, un concert et un repas. Mélomanes et musiciens de tous niveaux y pourront échanger et tisser des liens plus serrés autour des forces vives du milieu de la musique médiévale montréalaise. 

Les Cantigas de Santa Maria Les Cantigas de Santa Maria  se trouvent dans un manuscrit ibérique contenant plus de 400 chansons séculaires dédiées à Marie. Les chansons ont été collectées et notées pendant le règne de Alfonso X "le Sage" (1221-1284), et constituent une des plus grandes collections médiévales de chansons monodiques. Le manuscrit est aussi fameux pour ses représentations de musiciens de cour chrétiens, juifs et musulmans avec leur grande variété d’instruments.  

Programme de la journée  

13h30  : Arrivée, inscriptions  

14h-17h : Un atelier participatif, animé par Rebecca Bain et Pierre Langevin, nous fera découvrir les cantigas. Musiciens et mélomanes apportez vos instruments, votre voix ou seulement vos oreilles ! 

17h30 : Un concert convivial par les organisateurs du Festival : Rebecca Bain, Femke Bergsma, Bruno Cognyl-Fournier, Pierre Langevin et Alain Vadeboncoeur avec le concours des participants de l’atelier. 

18h30  : pause, préparation du repas  

19h-21h  : Souper médiéval : apportez vos cervoises, hydromels ou tout autre élixir pour accompagner le repas et la soirée informelle de rencontre qui suivra.

A second Medieval Music DayFollowing the success of its first Medieval Music Day, the FMM invites you to celebrate the arrival of spring with a second Medieval Music Day. Once again, the day will include a participatory workshop, a concert and a dinner. Music lovers and musicians of all levels will be offered a place to learn and discover, to share and listen, and to join the growing community of Montrealers who share a passion for medieval music.

The Cantigas de Santa Maria The Cantigas de Santa Maria is an Iberian manuscript containing over 400 secular songs to Mary in the Galician-Portugese language. The songs were collected and notated during the reign of  Alfonso X "the Wise" (1221-1284), and form one of the largest medieval collections of monophonic  songs. The manuscript is also famous for its depictions of Christian, Muslim and Jewish court musicians and their wide variety of instruments. 

Program 1:30 pm: Arrival, registration 

2:00-5:00: Participatory workshop on the Cantigas,   directed by Rebecca Bain and Pierre Langevin. All singers and instrumentalists,  as well as listeners, are welcome! 

5:30: Intimate concert by Festival staff. Rebecca Bain, Femke Bergsma, Bruno Cognyl-Fournier, Pierre Langevin and Alain Vadeboncoeur will perform together with the participants of the workshop. 

6:30: pause, preparation for dinner 

7:00–9:00: Medieval dinner: bring your own ale, mead, wine or other elixir to accompany the meal and good cheer that is sure to follow!
