Lunch & Learn

Our quarterly Lunch & Learn in June was a presentation from one of our own board members, Dr. Utpal Goswami, MCC- Maple Woods. He taught our members Tips & Techniques for Analyzing Budgets, so those who attended left with some great tools to use back in the office. Our Lunch & Learn program is designed to provide an event for our primary representatives, with a focus on small business, where they can walk away with information to better their business. We provide lunch for all, thanks to our sponsor

KCI Airport Awarded FAA Medal of ExcellenceWhen the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) performed its annual certification inspection of the operations area over three days at Kansas City International Airport (airport code MCI) all facilities passed with no discrepancies, yielding a perfect inspection for 2014. The FAA Airport Certification Program bestowed upon the Kansas City Aviation Department the Medal of Excellence.“A perfect score is not given to every airport and is something to be proud of,” Aviation Director Mark VanLoh said. “The safety of the flying public, airlines and other airport users is a high priority and a consideration in nearly every facet of KCI Airport operations. I am very proud of our employees and partners who made this happen.” The FAA’s Part 139 inspection includes the conditions of everything on KCI’s airfield including the pavement condition, lighting, pavement markings, condition of the grounds next to runways and taxiways (safety areas), training for Airport Operations and Field Maintenance, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training and operations, wildlife management, record keeping, fueling operations and Air Operations Area driver training. The evaluation found KCI to be fully compliant with Federal Aviation Regulation Part 139, the Airport Certification Manual and the Airport Operating Certificate. Many parties play a part in keeping the operations area safe and in top condition and continue to meet and exceed federal standards in providing ARFF coverage to KCI Airport.

MNU Website Wins National AwardMidAmerica Nazarene University’s website has won a national Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence Bronze Award for Best Institutional Website. MNU is the only college or university in the state of Kansas to receive a Circle of Excellence award in any category in the 2014 awards. More than 3,000 entries were judged in all categories. In January 2014 MNU won six CASE District VI awards at the District VI conference in Kansas City, Mo., including a gold award for the MNU website. All six projects that won were developed by the internal marketing team at MNU.MNU Provost Mary Jones, PhD, says the level of national recognition received with the latest award is significant due to the peer review aspect of the Circle of Excellence awards. “When professionals at other institutions judge your work to be superior it lends real weight to the award,” Jones said. “More importantly, we feel this award affirms our hard work to communicate with our audience in ways that resonate with them and represent the best practices in web design for higher education.”

Learning on WheelsToday’s students spend hours upon hours each year on yellow buses going to and from school, sporting events and extracurricular activities. These long commutes are usually spent sleeping, staring out the window or pestering a classmate. With the increase of 1:1 initiatives and flipped classrooms, districts need to take advantage of this “idle” time. As the leader in K-12 technology and support, k12itc has developed a Wi-Fi solution exclusively for school buses. Our Wi-Fi solution extends learning beyond traditional school hours, supports 21st Century Learning and even lowers behavioral incidents on buses. To learn more about k12itc’s mobile Wi-Fi, please contact [email protected]
