  • A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Romanians. (8: 1-11)Your blessings Father

Brothers and sisters, Hence, now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For thelaw of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed you from the law of sin and death. For what the law, weakened by the flesh, was powerless to do, this God has done: by sending his own Son in thelikeness of sinful flesh and for the sake of sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteousdecree of the law might be fulfilled in us, who live not according to the flesh but according to the spirit. For those who live according to the flesh are concerned with the things of the flesh, but those who liveaccording to the spirit with the things of the spirit. The concern of the flesh is death, but the concernof the spirit is life and peace. For the concern of the flesh is hostility toward God; it does not submit tothe law of God, nor can it; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in theflesh; on the contrary, you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God dwells in you. Whoever does nothave the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is deadbecause of sin, the spirit is alive because of righteousness. If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesusfrom the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortalbodies also, through his Spirit that dwells in you. Praise be to God always.

A reading from the Second Letter ofSaint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians(5 :20-6/10)Your blessings Father

Brothers and sisters, So we are ambassadorsfor Christ, as if God were appealing through us.We implore you on behalf of Christ, bereconciled to God. For our sake he made him tobe sin who did not know sin, so that we mightbecome the righteousness of God in him.Working together, then, we appeal to you not toreceive the grace of God in vain. For he says:"In an acceptable time I heard you, and on theday of salvation I helped you." Behold, now is avery acceptable time; behold, now is the day ofsalvation. We cause no one to stumble inanything, in order that no fault may be foundwith our ministry; on the contrary, in everythingwe commend ourselves as ministers of God,through much endurance, in afflictions, hardships, constraints, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, vigils, fasts; bypurity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in a holyspirit, in unfeigned love, in truthful speech, inthe power of God; with weapons ofrighteousness at the right and at the left;through glory and dishonor, insult and praise. We are treated as deceivers and yet aretruthful; as unrecognized and yetacknowledged; as dying and behold we live; aschastised and yet not put to death; as sorrowfulyet always rejoicing; as poor yet enrichingmany; as having nothing and yet possessing allthings. Praise be to God always.

Gospel (Luke 4:14-21)Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of theSpirit, and news of him spread throughout thewhole region. He taught in their synagoguesand was praised by all. He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according tohis custom into the synagogue on the sabbathday. He stood up to read and was handed ascroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled thescroll and found the passage where it waswritten: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,because he has anointed me to bring gladtidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaimliberty to captives and recovery of sight to theblind, to let the oppressed go free, and toproclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." Rollingup the scroll, he handed it back to the attendantand sat down, and the eyes of all in thesynagogue looked intently at him. He said tothem, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled inyour hearing." This is the truth. Peace bewith you.

    Gospel (Matthew 12:14-21)

But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him to put him to death. When Jesusrealized this, he withdrew from that place. Many (people) followed him, and he cured them all,but he warned them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken throughIsaiah the prophet: "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight; Ishall place my spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not contendor cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, asmoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory. And in his name theGentiles will hope." This is the truth. Peace be with you.

A reading from the First letter of SaintPaul to the Corinthians (12 : 1-11)Your blessings Father

Brothers and sisters, Now in regard to spiritualgifts, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. You know how, when you were pagans, youwere constantly attracted and led away to muteidols. Therefore, I tell you that nobody speakingby the spirit of God says, "Jesus be accursed."And no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except bythe holy Spirit. There are different kinds ofspiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there aredifferent forms of service but the same Lord;there are different workings but the same Godwho produces all of them in everyone. To eachindividual the manifestation of the Spirit is givenfor some benefit. To one is given through theSpirit the expression of wisdom; to another theexpression of knowledge according to the sameSpirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; toanother gifts of healing by the one Spirit; toanother mighty deeds; to another prophecy; toanother discernment of spirits; to anothervarieties of tongues; to another interpretation oftongues. But one and the same Spirit producesall of these, distributing them individually to eachperson as he wishes. Praise be to God always.

Gospel (Matthew 12 :22-32)Then they brought to him a demoniac who wasblind and mute. He cured the mute person sothat he could speak and see. All the crowd wasastounded, and said, "Could this perhaps be theSon of David?" But when the Pharisees heardthis, they said, "This man drives out demonsonly by the power of Beelzebul, the prince ofdemons." But he knew what they were thinkingand said to them, "Every kingdom dividedagainst itself will be laid waste, and no town orhouse divided against itself will stand. And ifSatan drives out Satan, he is divided againsthimself; how, then, will his kingdom stand? And ifI drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom doyour own people drive them out? Therefore theywill be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit ofGod that I drive out demons, then the kingdomof God has come upon you. How can anyoneenter a strong man's house and steal hisproperty, unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house. Whoever is notwith me is against me, and whoever does notgather with me scatters. Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not beforgiven. And whoever speaks a word againstthe Son of Man will be forgiven; but whoeverspeaks against the holy Spirit will not beforgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. This is the truth. Peace be with you.
