We want to celebrate YOU , because

You are the best part of what we do!

Words that our loyal employees on Lourensford definitely live by whenever we are faced with a fire. From

general workers to top management, the Lourensford team is always willing to embrace the challenge, no

matter how great the fire. The most important thing to consider during a fire is a life. We always need to put

the safety of our employees and residents first, while at the same time battling to safe our beautiful farm

and all our valuable assets that puts the bread and butter on the table for so many families. Hence it was

decided to initiate a firefighting training program on the farm in collaboration with CPFPA, presented by

Phambile Skills Training. Devoted employees from each department were identified and divided into

groups to be trained in both theoretical and practical aspects of firefighting. During the training, Marius

Bosman, forestry manager on Lourensford, shared a heartwarm-

ing story of a fire that broke out on the farm a few years back

where a group of volunteers and himself were surrounded by a

fire. They had nowhere to escape to and knew only a miracle

can save them from the threat they stared into the eyes. Our

employees need to know how to handle similar situations if ever

it comes along their path and think clearly in such situations. The

training will definitely add value to our farm heroes’ selfless sacri-

fices. As the firefighters always say, the more you sweat on the

training ground, the less you bleed on the fire ground.

Thank you to all our home grown heroes for the time and effort

you put in, we are proud of you

Lourensford hosted their annual harvest festival on 18 May 2018. During this festival, it is tradition that management prepare a meal for all the workers in their teams. Prizes were given to the best

performers of the 2018 season.

The day started off with a fun sports event which everybody enjoyed.

Thank you to everyone involved in the season, function and to our most loyal supporter – Oom Piet

“The difference between ordinary and extraordi-

nary is that little extra.” Jimmy Johnson

Piet Uys and his dedicated team proved that

these are words that they live by. After a long

season with a lot of hard word, the vineyard team

on Lourensford ends the season of with an end of

the harvest function. Just a small gesture to thank

each and every team member for their dedication

throughout the season before a well-deserved

vacation. May they return rested and ready for

the new season. Looking forward to see the hard

work of this season on the wine shelves next sea-

son.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said: “The life of a man consist not in

seeing visions and in dreaming dreams, but in active charity and willing

service.”

Lourensford Fruit Company wants to thank Potose Mayonga and Charles

Warner for the years that they decicated to the company. Potose started

as a seasonal worker in the vineyard section after which he was perma-

nently employed for eight years. Charles ends his working career on the

farm after 26 years of hard work. Loyal employees like these two men, is

what makes our company a success, definitely word class people. Your

footprints, presence and efforts will always remain on the farm. May the

rest of their journey be blessed and prosperous. All the best with your

future plans. Hope that the time that you’ve spent on Lourensford will

always be treasured and the knowledge and skills you’ve gained will al-

ways remain with you.

And then there were Five…

Lourensford was blessed with another baby water buffalo earlier this year. Tinus Potgieter, our

own home-grown buffalo whisperer, most definitely speaks their language. We all remember the

first day when the three water buffalos arrived on the farm. The family was blessed with one more

last year and just a year later yet another member. Very fertile soils and vegetation, or is it per-

haps the waterhole which they spend most of their time in?

“Perhaps there is a soul hidden in everything and it can always speak, without even making a

sound, to another soul.” Frances Hodgson Burnett

Employees with positive values are building the Karsten “house” on a strong foundation where happiness and productivity will be the out-

come. The opposite is also true - lies, distrust, violence, disrespect and unfaithfulness demolish the house into a ruin where nobody has a fu-

ture. Mosplaas and Koekoeb employees declared their individual posi-tive values during training to the benefit of their teams.

Values offer a strong foundation

At the Augrabies family camp parents made their strengths visible. Children witnessed their mothers and fathers

showing pictures that declared their personal vision for their families. Emotional poverty can be described as a

lack of personal vision, self-confidence and self-reliance and autonomy. Karsten parents are emotional wealthy

and are a blessing to their families and the company as well.

Raap & Skraap parents are being empowered by parent child attachment play sessions to be

changed agents in their own family. A strengths-based approach is followed, that focus on

the relationship quality between parent and child. Parents learn important skills, but ses-

sions are playful and fun! Karsten Albert Heijn respect parents as experts in their own

child and family situation.

“Courage move mountains”

Op my T-Hemp staan: “My courage move mountains.”

Priscilla Steenkamp (10 jaar)

Supportive interactions with children Through family camps Karsten Albert Heijn aim to enhance affective paternal involvement and strengthen the

ability to show interest in activities and engage in affectionate and supportive interactions with children. A

father is involved if a strong secure attachment develops between him and if he can be described as being

sensitive, warm, close, friendly, supportive, intimate, affectionate, nurturing, encouraging, comforting, and

accepting. Involved fathers are one of Karsten’s biggest strengths.

Pella Parents Parents are important and

significant playmates for their

children. Play is a highly suitable

medium to strengthen

attachment between parent

and child. Reflective function

play can reduce childrens’ stress

levels and increase

parental oxytocin levels.

with their children and enhance

attachment.
