NORTHWEST CLASSIC INVITATIONAL INTERNATIONAL KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP & SEMINARS

Dear Sensei, Coach, Athlete and Parents:

You are cordially invited to attend the 31st Anniversary Yoshida Cup-NW Classic International Karate Championships & Seminars (Invitational) on Saturday-Sunday, March 18-19, 2017 at the Yoshida Events Center @ Mt. Hood CC Gymnasium. This will be our first competition after the official inclusion of Karate into the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo! We are excited to assist in promoting Karate to the next level! I greatly appreciate the dedication and pride that athletes, coaches, and officials have in preparing and participating in competition and the camaraderie that it brings. This will be a weekend that will leave positive memories of great competition and the ability to train and compete with the highest caliber of karate-ka. Please join us as a participant, official, volunteer, spectator and/or supporter.

In addition to the highest quality seminars and demonstrations, and the highest level competitors from throughout the U.S. and Canada, the competition will be raised to a higher level with over 100 competitors from Japan! Many are members of, or are vying for, the Japanese National Team in April and competing internationally. They are sponsored by the “Say Oss! Save Japan Through Karate” organization. It is led by Kiyohiko Tosa Sensei (former Japan National Team and WKF Kumite fighter), President of GKIF and Shin Tsukii Sensei of IKGA, and it conducts karate seminars and competitions throughout Japan to raise money for the victims of the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami and international relief of natural disasters in other countries.

We welcome for the first time, 7 time World Champion Yukimitsu Hasegawa Sensei for a kata seminar. Kou Matsuhisa Sensei, “Scorpion Kick King” and now a Japanese National Team Coach will return for another fantastic kumite training seminar. Shin Tsukii Sensei “Expert of the Match” and Kiyohiko Tosa Sensei will be adding strategy and training preparation for kumite seminar. Tomohiro Arashiro Sensei, Pan-Am Director of Ryuei-ryu, will be teaching the finer points of kobudo!

Very importantly we will have the opportunity for everyone to develop their knowledge and skills in officiating with a Referee Course by Sensei Cleveland Baxter, USA Karate Referee Chairman, Pan-Am Karate Federation Referee Committee Member and senior World Karate Federation official, certification available. We welcome and appreciate all officials with any level of USA Karate certification and those who are seeking familiarity with USA Karate / WKF rules.

Modified USA Karate rules will be used. Seminars will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 18th. There will be a meeting for officials at 8:15 AM on Sunday, March 19th and competition will begin promptly at 9:00 am.

We look forward seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Junki Yoshida, Tournament Director
