Shri Kanakadhara Stotra .. ॥ ⠀ी कनकधारा➁तो⟽म् ॥ ं हरेः पुलकभूषणमायती भृानेव मुकु लाभरणं तमालम् । अकृ ताखलवभूितरपालला मायदाऽत मम मलदेवतायाः ॥ १॥ The dark Tamala tree in full bloom attracts the female beetle and even so MahalakShmi is attracted and finds happiness in the fragrant and dark-complexioned body of Hari and makes it tingle with joy. May she bestow on me prosperity by her auspicious glance.Note: The poet in Shankara compares the dark Tamala tree to thedark beautiful form of Vishnu, the dark beetle to the black lustrous eyes of MahalakShmi. The glance of LakShmi's eyes on Vishnu gives him great happiness. A mere momentary flash of her eyes on anybody will bless him with prosperity.. 1 .. मुधा मुवदधती वदने मुरारेः ेमपाणहतािन गतागतािन । माला शाेमधुकरव महाेपले या सा मे यं दशत सागरसंभवायाः ॥ २॥ The shy love-laden sidelong glance of the beauteous dark eyes of the daughter oof the Milky Ocean, returns again and again to the beauteous lotus face of Murari, just like the black bee constantly returning and flitting about the beautiful blue lotus flower. I pray that these glances be bestowed upon me to bless me with prosperity. Note: The dark beauteous face of the Lord is likened to the blue lotus. Thisseries of sidelong glances are likened here to a string or Malaand they further look like the series of trips which the honeyseeking black bee makes to the blue lotus. The devotee hopestaht he will be prosperous if a sidelong glance of the Goddessof Wealth falls at least momentarily on him... 2 ..अामीलतामधगय मुदा मुकुदंअानदकदमिनमेषमनतम् ।अाकेकरथतकनीिनकपनेंभूयै भवेम भुजशयानायाः ॥ ३॥The eyes of Mukunda remain closed in ecstasy. The beauteousdark eyes of LakShmi remain fixed on Mukunda in love andwonder and remain open without blinking. May these eyes ofMahalakShmi fall on me and bless me with prosperity and happiness.. 3 ..बातरे मधुजतः तकाैतभे याहारावलव हरनीलमयी वभाित ।कामदा भगवताेऽप कटामालाकयाणमावहत मे कमलालयायाः ॥ ४॥Lord Vishnu whose chest is adorned by the KaustubhaMala is also adorned by the series of the beauteousglances of Goddess MahalakShmi. This string of glancesresembles a necklace of precious blue stones ofIndraneela and they are capable of fulfilling all the wishesof Hari Himself. May this string of glances be directedtowards me so that it will bring me auspiciousness.. 4 ..कालाबुदालललताेरस कैटभारेःधाराधरे फुरित या तडदनेव ।मातसमतजगतां महनीयमूितःभाण मे दशत भागवनदनायाः ॥ ५॥MahalakShmi shining on the dark broad chest of

Mahavishnu is like the streak of lightning illuminatingthe dark rain clouds. May she, the daughter of theSage Bhargava worshipped as Mother by the entireuniverse, bring me auspiciousness.. 5 ..ां पदं थमतः खल यभावात्मायभाज मधुमाथिन मथेन ।मयापतेदह मथरमीणाधमदालसं च मकरालयकयकायाः ॥ ६॥The God of Love, Manmatha, could gain access toMadhusudana (the destroyer of the demon Madhu, i.e.Vishnu) only because he was favored with the blessingglance from MahalakShmi . May her auspicious indolentsideglance fall on me (May she bless me with prosperityby looking at me in passing at least for a moment .. 6 ..वामरेपदवमदानदंअानदहेतरधकं मुरवषाेऽप ।ईषषीदत मय णमीणाधम्इदवराेदरसहाेदरमदरायाः ॥ ७॥The status of the king of kings or the exal;ted positionof an Indra are given effortlessly by MahalakShmi by a meremomentary glance. Murari (Vishnu) who is supreme blissitself is made happy by it. May this glance from the blue-lotus eyes of LakShmi fall on me for a moment at least.Note: The beautepus lotus eyes flashing momentarily onsomeone is capable of making him a king of kings ir evenan Indra. Murari the seat of all bliss is thrown into ecstasyby it. Will she not glance at me , even for a second?.. 7..इावशमतयाेऽप यया दया-ा िवपपदं सलभं लभते ।ः कमलाेदरदिरांपुं कृषी मम पुकरवरायाः ॥ ८॥

The higher worlds like Swarga which are difficult of attainmentand for which great sacrifices like Ashwamedha are performedbecome easily attainable by the compassion filled look of thelotus eyes of MahalakShmi . May she look at me so that I mayattain my heart's desires. .. 8 ..दायानुपवनाे वणाबुधारांअकनवहशशाै वषणे ।दुकमधममपनीय चराय दरंूनारायणणयनीनयनाबुवाहः ॥ ९॥The dark rain clouds driven by the monsoon windsreleases rain on the parched earth and quench thethirst of the Chataka bird and brings prosperity on theearth. In like manner may the dark eyes of MahalakShmiresembling the rain cloud wafted by the breeze of compassionrelese the rain of prosperity on this devotee of a Chatakabird stricken with the load of accumulated sins so thatthe sins are washed away and prosperity bestowed upon him.. 9 ..गीदेवतेित गडवजसदरितशाकरित शशशेखरवभेित ।सृथितलयकेलषु संथतायैतयै नमभुवनैकगुराेतयै ॥ १०॥We offer obeisance to the Goddess MahalakShmi,the consort of Narayana, the preceptor of all the threeworlds. She is variously known as Saraswati the Goddessof Learning, as Goddess LakShmi, the Divine consortof Mahavishnu, as Shakambhari or as Parvati the consortof Lord Maheshwara. Verily it is she who is playfully engagedin creation, protaction and final destruction of the Universe.. 10 ..ुयै नमाेऽत शभकमफलसूयैरयै नमाेऽत रमणीयगुणाणवायै ।शै नमाेऽत शतपिनकेतनायै

पुै नमाेऽत पुषाेमवभायै ॥ ११॥O Goddess as the very manifestation of the Vedas,you grant the fruits of godd action. Beautiful in form likeRati Devi you are the very ocean of superlativelybeautiful qualities. Having your abode in the beautifullotus of a hundred petals, you are Shakti personified.O consort of Purushottama, You are the Goddess ofplenty. Please accept my obeisance .. 11 ..नमाेऽत नालकिनभाननायैनमाेऽत दुधाेदधजभूयै ।नमाेऽत साेमामृतसाेदरायैनमाेऽत नारायणवभायै ॥ १२॥O Consort of Narayana! Whose face is as beautifulas the lotus in bloom, I bow down to thee . Bornout of the milky ocean, along with the moon and theDivine nectar, O Goddess! accept my pranams.. 12 ..नमाेऽत हेमाबुजपीठकायैनमाेऽत भूमडलनायकायै ।नमाेऽत देवाददयापरायैनमाेऽत शाायुधवभायै ॥ १३॥I prostrate before you, O Goddess, who are seatedon the Golden Lotus, who is Goddess of the earth, theconsort of Narayana, compassionate to the Devas.. 13 ..नमाेऽत देयै भृगुनदनायैनमाेऽत वणाेरस थतायै ।नमाेऽत लयै कमलालयायैनमाेऽत दामाेदरवभायै ॥ १४॥My obeisance to you, O daughter of Bhrigu, consortof Damadara. नमाेऽत भूयै भुवनसूयै ।नमाेऽत देवादभरचतायैनमाेऽत नदाजवभायै ॥ १५॥O Consort of Gopala, the son of Nanda, youare worshipped by the Devas. You are Jyotiincarnate, I prostrate before Thee. Your eyesare like lotus petals. You have created the worldand you bestow prosperity. Please accept mysalutations.. 15 ..सपकराण सकलेयनदनािनसाायदानवभवािन सराेहा ।वदनािन दुरताेरणाेतािनमामेव मातरिनशं कलयत माये ॥ १६॥May I always have the desire to prostrate before youbecause a pranam to you is capable of bestowing allprosperity and will bring happiness to all the senses.Worshipping O Lotus-eyed Goddess not only removesall miseries but it confers happiness and plenty.. 16 ..यकटासमुपासनावधःसेवकय सकलाथसंपदः ।संतनाेित वचनामानसैःवां मुरारदयेरं भजे ॥ १७॥The devotee who worships your KatakSha (sidelongglance) is blessed with wealth and prosperity. To you,the queen who dominates the heart of Vishnu, mypranamas, through word, thought, and deed.. 17 ..सरसजिनलये सराेजहतेधवलतमांशकगधमायशाेभे ।भगवित हरवभे मनाेेिभुवनभूितकर सीद मम् ॥ १८॥Seated on the lotus with the lotus flower in your hand,

dresed in dazzling white and adorned with garlands andsandalwood paste, you gladden our hearts. O Goddess,the consort of Vishnu you who confer prosperity on allthe three worlds, please show compassion towards me.. 18 ..दग् हतभः कनककंुभमुखावसृ-ववाहनीवमलचाजलुताम् ।ातनमाम जगतां जननीमशेष-लाेकाधनाथगृहणीममृताधपुीम् ॥ १९॥O mother of all the worlds, consort of Vishnu the lord ofthe Universe, the Dig-gajas (the celestial elephants guardingvarious directions) bathe you everyday with waters of theDeva Ganga poured ouitfrom golden vessels. O daughter ofthe milky ocean, I prostrate before Thee.. 19 ..कमले कमलावभे वंकणापूरतरतैरपाै ः ।अवलाेकय मामकनानांथमं पामकृिमं दयायाः ॥ २०॥O Goddess LakShmi, consort of the Lotus-eyedMahavishnu, direct your gaze filled with compassionat me, your devotee who am the poorest of the poor,so that I may become the true recipient of the benefitsof your compassion.. 20 ..देव सीद जगदर लाेकमातःकयाणगाि कमलेणजीवनाथे ।दारभीितदयं शरणागतं माम्अालाेकय ितदनं सदयैरपाै ः ॥ २१॥O Goddess, controller of the Universe and protectorof the people, blessing with your limbs, and gazing withyour lotus-like eyes, forgive me. With my heart filled withfear of poverty, I surrender myself wholly to you, that youmay watch over me every day with unbroken compassion.. 21 ..
