QUICK, EASY AND ACCURATE IDENTIFICATION

The Callfinder®

is battery operated and easy to use. It doesn’t depend on internet or network coverage and has no complicated menus or operating instructions. Briza uses new printing technol-ogy to print an invisible grid over every photo. The eye of the Callfinder® reads this grid and recalls the bird’s call from its internal memory card. For the first time bird calls can be heard from the pages of a field guide!

INFORMATIVE ICONSSpecies can quickly be compared with the help of icons illustrating normal habitat, nest position, relative size and social behaviour.

QUALITY PHOTOSMore than 800 quality full colour pho-tographs by renowned photographers.

EFFICIENT GROUPINGBird species are uniquely grouped together according to four behaviour groups: Waterbirds, Raptors, Veld Landscape and Bush Landscape birds. Grouping is then further broken down into the birds’ external shapes ensuring that similar looking birds are close to each other thus assisting in comparing different species.

’s all-in-one bird guide forever changes birdwatching. For the first time bird calls can be heard from the pages of a field guide!

TREES OF THE GARDEN ROUTEMOSSEL BAY TO STORMS RIVER

This easy tree guide is meant for people who would like to get to know the trees of the Garden Route, whether they are experienced botanists or amateurs.

The unique tree key which is used in the book is very visual and was developed by Elna Venter, a tree enthusiast who served on the Central Committee of the Dendrological Society of Southern Africa intermittently between 2000 and 2011. She was also a member of the local committee of the Outeniqua branch of the society.

The book contains information about 110 trees, including + 1 800 colour photographs, which makes it easy to ascertain that you have arrived at the right conclusion after identifying a tree with the help of the key.

TREES OF THE GARDEN ROUTEMossel Bay to Storms River

Bestemmings

A Guide to Animal Diseases in South Africa

GameA Guide to Animal Diseases in South Africa – Game covers the most common diseases and parasites of mammalian wildlife species that are generally kept on game farms. Introductory chapters on the species kept by game farmers, the importance

of an ecosystem and the management of game farms, with reference to the impact on the health of wildlife and management of ‘problem animals’ and the raising of orphaned wildlife species. A section on diseases prefaced by a discussion of some common non-infectious conditions such as nutritional problems, trauma and capture myopathy. The cause, symptoms, treatment and control measures of specifi c infectious diseases of herbivores, equids, porcines, and carnivores, with special reference to those diseases that limit the distribution of wildlife species because of their impact on commercial livestock farming, are discussed. Maps of the controlled disease areas are provided. Symptoms or post mortem lesions for the major diseases are illustrated. The effect of parasites on various species and the preventative measures for introducing resistant parasites in particular is discussed, illustrated with the use of life cycles and photographs. A section devoted to the causes of poisoning of wildlife, by means of indigenous and exotic plants, as well as various chemicals.

This is the fi rst comprehensive guide to wildlife diseases to be published in South Africa specifi cally for game farm owners, game rangers and others involved in the management and handling of wildlife. It contains 190 photographs, illustrations, maps and parasite life cycles.
