Raymond Moriyama Exhibit Opening

Henry Shimizu “Images of Internment” ExhibitThe JCCC Heritage Committee sponsored the exhibit, Images of Internment featuring 27 original oil paintings of New Denver, B.C. by Henry Shimizu, a model of the camp on loan from the Japanese Canadian National Archives in Burnaby, B.C. and different artifacts from the internment camp. It was a very successful well attended event during the month of March in the JCCC Gallery. The show was curated by Bryce Kanbara. On March 28, Frank Moritsugu reminisced about his experience in the internment camp before an audience of approximately 90 attendees before he introduced Dr. Henry Shimizu. Dr. Shimizu gave a slide show and talk about his trip through the internment camps as well as his experiences in New Denver. He also met many of his friends from the internment camp after the talk during the refreshments of manju and tea. Copies of his book, Images of Internment were autographed by the author.

Natsu Matsuri and Obon FestivalExciting Summer Festivities within the CommunityWhat do you get when you combine several community organizations, a beautiful location, hundreds of dancers and a sunny summer that fades in to a balmy evening? You get the Natsu Matsuri and Obon Festival at the JCCC. On Saturday July 10, 2010 the JCCC invites thousands of visitors to enjoy a lively festival atmosphere with games, great food and spectacular performances. The festival is a particularly special one because of the co-operative effort of the many community organizations involved in making the event a huge success. Weather permitting the event takes place outside in the parking lot or in the Kobayashi Hall. We look forward to the 7th year of this exciting JCCC and community tradition! We hope to see lots of new and familiar faces! Mark your calendars now! Then look for more details in the June/July issue of the newsletter.

Mah Jong WorkshopTime flies when you’re having fun! And we guarantee that joining the Mah Jong Workshop will never be boring and always a lot of fun! The Mah Jong workshop is open to all participants from new beginners to advanced veterans, in English or in Japanese and will teach you how to play the ancient game of Mah Jong. For 3 hours you will have a chance to experience the excitement of Mah Jong in a hands-on manner where you can learn at your own pace starting with the basics but also advanced strategies and skills. Volunteer co-ordinators are always on hand so you’ll never feel overwhelmed. Having fun is what’s most important. If you are interested in joining an upcoming Mah Jong workshop, please make sure to put your name on the waiting list so that we can let you know when it starts. We are also looking for the volunteer coordinators who has Mah Jong experience to facilitate the workshop, so please contact Junko Mifune at junko.mifune@jccc.on.ca if you are interested in assisting this J-Sports workshop while you enjoy the exciting game!

Kamp Kodomo 2010 Summer SessionsMark your calendars and don’t miss out on the all the summer fun at the JCCC!!! Kamp Kodomo’s summer session is ready to start registration. Join us for a busy week filled with sessions covering a wide range of activities including martial arts, ikebana, origami, folklore, language, and so much more! The camp operates from 9:00am to 4:30pm from Monday to Friday. There will be three sessions offered for 2010: July 5 – 9, July 12 – 16, and July 19 – 23. Fees for this program are $180 per child for a 5-day session (same price as last year!). A 10 % discount will be applied for JCCC members and additional children from the same family will receive a 5% discount. Extended camp care is available from 8:00am to 9:00am and from 4:30pm to 6:00pm with an additional cost of $35 per session. Camp fees cover all materials, two nutritious snacks per day, and a special activity each week. Campers are required to bring a lunch and drink. So call us today, as the registration deadline is June 28, 2010 and Kamp Kodomo’s maximum attendance is 20 children per session. DEAR DOCTOR: Last Year's Hit Japanese Film Arrives in TorontoThe JCCC is pleased to present the Toronto premiere screening on Dear Doctor, the hugely popular 2009 film nominated for Japanese Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The film was written and directed by Miwa Nishikawa and stars Tsurube Shofukutei, Eita, Kimiko Yo, Yutaka Matsushige and Ryo Iwamatsu. Dear Doctor tells the story of young doctor, a recent graduate of a Tokyo medical school, who is assigned as an intern to a small mountain village. Tidy rice paddies layer the mountainside and there's not a store in sight. There, the young doctor encounters Ino, a veteran doctor who is very friendly. As the area's sole doctor, Ino is responsible for every aspect of the villagers' health, examining a steady stream of patients, prescribing their medicines, even visiting the disabled elderly in their homes. The villagers regard Ino, who lives in the clinic annex, almost as a god. Whenever Ino ventures into the village, he is warmly hailed, "Hello doctor!" Working beside Ino, the younger doctor begins to experience a sense of fulfillment he had never known in the big city. One day Ino and the young doctor arrive to treat a gentle widow with stomach pains. The widow is vaguely aware that she is suffering from a disease, but she fears that her illness will interfere with her grown daughter's life, so she has deliberately refrained from revealing her condition. When the widow and Ino are alone, she quietly asks, "Doctor, won't you help me tell my little lie?" Once Ino agrees to collude in her scheme, however, the little lie begins to infect Ino's own condition. And it is a condition that the veteran doctor may not be able to treat after all. Subtle, beautifully acted and moving, the film won rave reviews in Japan and at film festivals around the world.

SAMURAI BLUE PROJECT 2010June 19 - Are You Ready To Experience the Excitement of World Cup Soccer?The JCCC, together with the Japanese Football Club of Toronto (JFT), are excited to announce a soccer-themed event celebrating Team Japan’s match with the Netherlands in this year’s World Cup. The event starts Friday (June 18) night with a BBQ and some soccer related fun. The following morning we will get up early (7am start time!), enjoy breakfast and watch the game between Japan and the Netherlands live on the big screen in the Kobayashi Hall. Participants are invited to sleep over but please bring all of your own sleeping paraphernalia – all we can provide is a floor! It won’t be for the faint of heart but it will be fun! The Ghost Brush by Katherine Govier – A Reading and Discussion with the Author

The JCCC is very pleased to announce an evening on Thursday June 3, 2010 with leading Canadian writer Katherine Govier on the launch of her latest Japan-themed novel: THE GHOST BRUSH. The novel is a powerful work, combining international research, scholarly detective work, and imagination to bring Oei, the great, lost woman artist, to life. Oei’s drive to paint led her through the barriers of tyranny, political upheaval and famine. But when her strength was pitted against her father, the iconic artist, Hokusai, she could only submit.

Katherine Govier has published 8 novels and 3 collections of short stories. Her last novel was THREE VIEWS OF CRYSTAL WATER (4th Estate, London, UK; Harper Collins, Toronto). Her previous novel, CREATION, was a New York Times Notable Book of 2003.

Katherine has spoken at the Lahti International Writers’ Reunion in Finland, at the International Festival of Authors in Toronto, at Cambridge University, Princeton University and at the Canadian Embassies in Tokyo, New Delhi and London. She was President of PEN Canada and helped found the new program ‘Canadian Journalism for Foreign Trained Writers’, which is open to refugee and immigrant writers, at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario.

Nostalgia Night 2010On Saturday June 19, 2010, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, the JCCC will be host to Nostalgia Night 2010, which will be the 7th annual event presented by the JCCC Heritage Committee. Every year, a group or persons who have made contribution to the Nikkei community in Toronto is recognized. This year, the Toronto Japanese Language School celebrating their 60th anniversary, the Sakura Kai odori group celebrating their 50th anniversary, and the Ayame Kai odori group, who celebrated their 25th anniversary last year, will be honoured. The evening will again feature a huge buffet of fabulous homemade Japanese Canadian soul food cuisine with many old time favourites as well as other mouth-watering dishes. Admission is free for children under 5, children 5-12 is $5, JCCC members $8, non-members $10. Please purchase your tickets prior to the event at the JCCC Reception Desk. Everyone is invited to come so bring the whole family and enjoy the food, entertainment and the memories.

The Second Annual Sakura Ball - An Unforgettable EveningThe second annual Sakura Ball was held on April 10, 2010. The evening honoured Raymond Moriyama for all of his great accomplishments and contributions to the JCCC, the community and Canada. The Niagara Culinary Institute served a great meal, Jim Galloway and his Wee Big Band performed including a special piece composed and dedicated to the Moriyamas, and of course, the highlight of the evening, Raymond delivered a keynote address of extraordinary power, wisdom and modesty. In fact the Globe and Mail referred to it as “an epic once-in-a-lifetime speech.” The JCCC thanks Bill Hatanaka and TD Waterhouse for being our presenting sponsor, and to all the other generous sponsors and guests who made the event successful as both a social event and a fundraiser. Special thanks also goes out to the Nelson Arthur Hyland Foundation for making another in a series of tremendous gifts in support of the Legacy Campaign. The funds raised that night will be applied to paying down the debt incurred in the completion of the final phase of our expansion. Finally, we thought it fitting to quote the opening words by Sakura Ball Chair David Tsubouchi, on the meaning and significance of this Centre: “We Japanese Canadians are a rare group in Canada. We are an amalgam, an anomaly. As we progressed from Issei to Nisei to Sansei to Yonsei we became the most inter-married ethnic group in Canada. As a direct result of the internment, the Sansei were taught to be less Japanese and more Canadian. As we grew up, we had little skill in the Japanese language but we spoke English without an accent. We resisted bribes of bicycles from our grandmothers to go to Japanese language school. We played hockey and football. In many respects, we became more Canadian than others who had lived in Canada for countless generations. But as we grew older and wiser, we sought a sense of our identity. We became more interested in our heritage, where we came from and our culture…. We came to realize as we became more diverse within our own ethnic group that there were certain things that could be done to maintain and carry on this sense of identity. Foremost is the JCCC that I consider to be the sacred custodian of our past, present and future. The JCCC not only continues to provide the essential cultural programs that will help our children dentify who they are and where they came from but the JCCC also holds its arms out to everyone in Canadian society to help them understand who we are as well. Projects like the Sedai Project that will preserve the records of Japanese Canadians for future generations are essential to the future of our community. This is spear-headed by volunteers like Ann Ashley, Lorene Nagata and Connie Sugiyama. These are our archives and a precious commodity. This is why an event like the Sakura Ball is so important. It tells the stories of our distinguished members of our community like our honoree tonight, Raymond Moriyama. When someone from our community succeeds, we all succeed. We all feel that we share in his accomplishments because we share in those accomplishments. We have immense pride in one of our own. Nikkei Kids Day 2010Another successful Nikkei Kids Day—the only event at the JCCC specifically designed for children—was held on the Monday of March Break. This year we had over 120 children come out for an enjoyable session of activities (a choice of morning or afternoon) with their parents, grandparents, or guardian on March 15, 2010. Nikkei Kids Day is a Heritage Committee event which first began in 2006 to encourage children to learn about their Japanese ancestry and Nikkei heritage through fun activities. The event has become a place to spend quality family time, bringing together all generations of Nikkei. This includes both participants and volunteers running the various activity tables.The special feature this year was the “Internment Camp Games area,” held in conjunction with the exhibition of paintings by Dr. Henry Shimizu in the Heritage Gallery entitled, Images of Internment. Ideas for the demonstrated games and activities played by children during the internment camp days of the Second World War (which included string games, Jacks, marbles, and soap carving) were contributed by Gloria Sumiya. Another special activity this year was the folding of paper cranes for the August memorial service of the 1910 Rogers Pass Snow Slide in B.C.—the worst avalanche in Canadian history that claimed the lives of 58 men, including 32 Japanese labourers.A slightly upgraded activity this year was the calligraphy table where Yukiko Yabuta, Kenzaburo Date, and Yasuko of Noriko Maeda’s JCCC Shodo classes wrote children’s name in calligraphy on paper fans. The Nikkei Kids Day organizing committee would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to make the event a big success.

Kyogen Wows Sold-out Kobayashi HallLast month over 420 fans of traditional Japanese culture filled the Kobayashi Hall for a rare performance of Kyogen, a 600-year old form of Japanese comic theatre. The performance was by the Yamamoto Kyogen Company of Tokyo and represented the single largest performance on their North American Tour. The JCCC thanks the Frank Hori Foundation for their generous support of the performance, as well as the Japan Society of New York and all the great volunteers who helped to create an unforgettable evening.

Bi-annual Bunka Shishu Show and Competitionby Sono SugieThe Bi-annual Bunka Shishu Show and Competition will be held at Momiji Centre, 3555 Kingston Road on Sunday May 30, 2010 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Shishu demonstrations at the show give insight to the classes taught at the JCCC. Competition participants are from various classes held in and around the GTA and London. Come and enjoy our delicious food in our cheery tearoom.Recipes are featured in our cookbooks for sale. There will be presentations to the shishu winners, raffle, and door prizes. Admission is $4 and children under 12 are free.

Let’s Play Ball! JC 3-PITCH Looking For Sunday Ball Playersby Bob DoiThe Japanese Canadian 3-Pitch Baseball League begin it's 24th season of play at the end of May and we are looking for additional players. Our non-profit league, founded in 1987, is co-ed, with each team comprised of up to 4 women and 10 men, between the ages of 18 and 60 and skill levels from beginner to intermediate. The prime directive of the league is to provide a social, yet competitive environment for persons or families of Japanese ancestry to participate and integrate together, to meet others sharing similar culture, heritage and interests, to have fun and to make friends. Games are on Sunday mornings (9:30-12:00) excluding July and August long weekends in the Warden and Steeles Avenue area. We host several BBQ’s during the season and provide a subsidized banquet in September. Each team pitches to their own players (players hit every inning) in a slow pitch/lob ball format with each player receiving 3 (men) or 4 (women) pitches.

Sogetsu Flower Showby Sogetsu Toronto East BranchSogetsu Toronto East Branch presents its 40th Sogetsu Ikebana Show on Sunday May 30, 2010, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the JCCC. Admission is $5, free for children under 12. Opening ceremony is at 1:30pm with Mr. Tetsuo Yamashita, Consul General of Japan. An Ikebana demonstration will follow. Placing emphasis on plant, space and creative art for all environments, Sogetsu teaches the joy, wonder of creation, grace and enrichment in our increasingly diversified contemporary living and architectural spaces, shop, window, streets and stages. 3rd Annual Friends of Mike Golf Tournament & DinnerSaturday June 5, 2010by Friends of Mike CommitteePlease join us on Saturday June 5, 2010 for a fantastic day to support the Michael Shin Family and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) Research. In 2006, Mike was diagnosed with FTD, a rare and fatal illness which attacks the cells in the brain, impairing judgment, social skills, motor skills and speech. There is currently no known cure. The past two years have been remarkable. Hundreds of people have donated time, money, goods and services to help a family that has been struck by tragedy. All of your kindness and generosity has also helped us raise thousands of dollars towards research to find a treatment for the terrible disease Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). The tournament has raised $10,000 so far for furthering FTD research. Last year two of the leading clinicians/researchers in FTD treatment, Dr. Sandra Black and Dr. Tiffany Chow attended our event and have since let us know that our work has really helped raise awareness of FTD in the whole community leading to a significant increase in contributions and funds for their work! Beauties of Asia 2010 by The Beauties of Asia 2010 Organizing CommitteeThe Beauties of Asia 2010 Pageant, to be held on Sunday May 30, 2010 at Grand York Ballroom at Sheraton Parkway Hotel, is organized by the Global Asian Interactive Youth Association (GAIYA), a long-established and prestigious not-for-profit community youth organization. It was founded in 2003, to further the understanding of Chinese culture and traditions and promote the social, cultural, and the economic well-being of Chinese Canadians. The purpose of Beauties of Asia 2010 is to promote and enrich the communication between different cultures within the Asian Communities and express the Asian culture to the Canadian society. By showcasing the talents of young Asian Canadians in cultural activities, the event is designed to encourage youth to celebrate their heritage and become involved in their communities. Toward that end, a series of competitions will lead through the month of May and into June in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. Global Asian Interactive Youth Association is proud to be involved with Asian Heritage Month through various events and activities. Through Beauties of Asia 2010, the younger generation will be given a precious learning opportunity to understand and accept individual and cultural differences. It will allow them to learn how to respect others and enhance their teamwork skills. This is the 3rd year for GAIYA to hold Beauties of Asia event. Japanese culture will be the theme for this year. The proceeds from this event will go to GAIYA. More than 11 Asian Communities were at the conference and helped to kick off Beauties Of Asia 2010 on April 6. 総領事公邸の槇峰美那料理人による和の料理教室

５月のjpals日本語で学ぼう、楽しもうプログラムは、在トロント日本国総領事館のご協力をいただき、公邸料理人による料理教室を開催します。現在総領事公邸の料理人として腕を振るわれているのは、女性シェフ、日本料理が専門の槇峰美那さんです。　美那さんは大阪辻調理師専門学校を経て辻調理師技術専門学校日本料理課で２年間日本料理を専門に学ばれました。卒業後、そのまま辻調理師技術専門学校に残り、料理講師として６年間ご

活躍されました。その後新天地を求め、在ユジノサハリンスク総領事館で約５年間、料理人としてお仕事。日本の食材がなかなか揃わない環境の中、講習会などで現地の方々に日本料理を教えることもあったそうです。２００９年１月からは在トロント総領事館勤務で、総領事公邸にて総領事ご夫妻の毎日のお食事、そしてお客様のおもてなしに料理をされています。昨年の７月に天皇皇后両陛下のトロント御訪問時には、美那さんの和食で晩餐が行われたとの事です。　今回の料理教室メニューは「簡単なおもてなし料理」と題し、記念日のお食事やお友達を招いてのパーティに活用できる和の料理三品

（合鴨の照り焼き、冷蔵庫の中のものを使ってご飯もの１品、野菜の和風ピクルス）です。トロントで手に入る食材でのメニューですから、ご自宅でも気軽に実践できることでしょう。プロの技をしっかり見て学べるデモンストレーション形式の講習会で、もちろん美那さんが作られたお料理は参加者の皆様にその場でご試食いただき、レシピのプリントをお持ち帰りいただきます。　講習会中は随時質問可能、写真撮影もOKなカジュアルな講習会です。美那さんはお仕事柄、著名人にお料理を出されることが多いので、そういった時のお話なども飛び出すかもしれません。　今回は初回限定の特別料金です。人数に制限がありますので、お申し込みはお早めにどうぞ。

JCCC健康麻雀！麻雀ワークショップ始まりました！麻雀をする楽しみを覚えたら、あなたもきっとそのゲームの面白さに虜になり、３時間はあっという間

に過ぎていくでしょう。麻雀ワークショップ参加者の皆さんは３月２４日からその楽しさを満喫されています。初心者グループ、女性グループ、そして上級者グループの皆さんは。毎週木曜日に３人のボランティアの指導者の皆さんと一緒に麻雀を楽しんでおられます。　麻雀の勝負で勝つためには、計算能力、戦略能力、総合洞察能力などが必要ですが、麻雀は一緒にゲームをする仲間との絆を深めるのにも役立ちます。　将来的に、またワークショップを継続予定ですので、興味のある方は、お名前をＷａｉｔｉｎｇリストに載せることをお忘れなさいませんように。　また、麻雀経験者でボランティアとして指導してくださる方も随時募集しておりますので、J-sportsチームのこの企画をサポートしながら健康麻雀を楽しむことに興味のある方は、三船純子（Ｅｍａｉｌ：junko.mifune@jccc.on.ca）までご連絡ください。

ワインテイスティングセミナー今年の１０月に予定されているjpalsワイナリーツアーに先駆けて、７月１６日（金）午後７時からワインテイスティングセミナー(日本語)を行います。

参加費はJCCC会員$２０、非会員＄２５です。参加される方はテイスティング用のワイングラスを３つお持ちになって下さい(グラスをお持ちでない方はこちらでプラスチック製のものをご用意します)。またワインテイスティング参加者がワイナリーツアーに参加される場合はツアー料金が割引になります。詳細は当日お知らせいたします。ワインテイスティングセミナーに参加希望の方はJCCC４１６－４４１－２３４５までご登録下さい。　今回のテイスティングを指導して下さるのはソムリエの資格をお持ちの長岡裕司さんとナイアガラ地区を含むオンタリオ各地に精通したメディアコーディネーターの中村（ミッキー）滋さんです。中村さんはワインの味や質を影響するオンタリオの風土や気候の特徴についてお話して下さいます。多くの方のご参加をお待ちしています。

以下は裕司さんからのメッセージです：『あのワイン美味しかったけど、なんだったっけ？』といった経験は誰

にでもあるのではないでしょうか。大切なのは、ワインのブランド名を覚えることではなく、ワインの味や特徴をおぼえておくことです。それが出来れば、同じワインは見つからなくとも、それに近いワインは探し出せます。そのために必要なのが、『知識』とそのワインを覚えてお くヒントとなる『表現力』です。少々小難しく感じるかもしれませんが、あることを理解するとグッとワインが身近に感じられると思います。キーワードは『ワインは農産物である』です。　今回のティスティングでは、主要品種のティスティング（赤白３杯ずつ）をしながらそれぞれの特徴をつかみ、『ワインは農作物である』ということを理解して頂けたらと思ってます。　『ワインは農作物である』ことをもう少し具体的に言いますと例えば、わかりやすくオレンジで考えるとして：暑い気候の地では、完熟で甘みのある濃縮されたオレンジができます。寒い気候の地では、なかなか熟すことがなく、酸味が強く、味もどこか淡 白です。　これを葡萄＝ワインに置き換えると（糖分はアルコールに変わるので）暑い気候の地では（カリフォルニア、オーストラリア、南フランス、スペイン）色の濃い濃縮感があり、フルーティーで、アルコール分の高い＝フルボディーのワインができます。寒い気候の地では（ボルドー、ブルゴーニュ、ナイアガラ）完熟しないことから酸味、タンニン（苦味）が強く、果実味が前面に出ることなく、むしろ繊細なワインになります。　当日はベーシックなワインを飲んでいただき、好きな品種を、またそこからどの地方のワインが自分に合いそうか探すヒントを提供できれば、と思います。

長岡裕司トロントで生まれ、９歳のときに日本に帰国。大学在学中、バーテンダーのアルバイトをきっかけに接客業の楽しさを知る。卒業を機にトロントに戻り、日本食レストランでのアルバイトを経てOliver Bonacini RestaurantsのSquareにServer Assistantとして就職。以降、Canoeを始め系列店を異動しながら、ワインとフードの知識と北米式Hospitaliyを学ぶ。現在、Biff's BistroにてServerとして勤務。2010年、WSET(Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Advance certificate in Wines and Spirits取得。

５月映画鑑賞会「ディア・ドクター」２０１０年５月２７日（木)午後７時から映画「ディア・ドクター」（西川美和監督、 笑福亭鶴瓶主演）を上映します。入場料はJCCC会員＄６、非会員＄８です。国内映画賞を数多く受賞。「心の奥底を強く揺さぶりながら、観終わった後には温かな気持ちで満たされる、極上の人間ドラマ」（公式サイトより）です。日本語音声、英語字幕。

Jpals 夏の子供ミュージカルキャンプ：歌って・踊って日本の児童ミュージカル劇団の子供たちと共に、ミュージカルを通して学ぼう・楽しもうjpalsプログラム「日本語で学ぼう・楽しもう」初の試みである子供向けのミュージカルキャンプが今年８月に開催され、既にお申し込みを受け付けています。

　キャンプは日本の児童ミュージカル劇団「大きな夢」の指導による楽しい歌と踊りのレッスン５日間（月曜日から金曜日まで）。そして成果披露公演が土曜日に行われます。キャンプには講師陣はもとより、日本の劇団生徒さん達（幼稚園児から大学生まで）もキャンプに参加します。　５日間のキャンプ前半は、舞台に立つに当たり必要となるストレッチやダンス、お腹から声を出すための発生練習が中心に行われます。発声練習では「あいうえお」を基本とした発声、開口（口の開け方）、滑舌（早口言葉）をプロのアナウンサー訓練用テキストで行います。　キャンプ中盤からは参加者の身長やキャラクターを元に配役、成果披露公演のため振り付けや台詞の練習となります。　日本からの参加者はカナダに住む子供たちの「先輩」と言う形で、練習中サポートしてくれます。せっかく日本とカナダの子供達が交わるのですから、文化交流に、英語の歌にも挑戦します。英語の歌ではカナダの子供たちがリードして発音などを助けてあげることが出来るでしょう。　キャンプの総仕上げとして行われる成果披露の公演（希望者のみ）では、日本から参加の子供たちにカナダの参加者も混ざり、ミュージカルの舞台に立ちます。舞台で一生懸命演じ、お客様から拍手をいただくことは、かけがえのない思い出となるに違いありません。あらゆる世代や生活環境が違う子供たちが協力し合って作り上げるミュージカルがどのようになるか楽しみですね。　そして、一週間のキャンプと舞台を通して、子供たちに日加友情の輪が広がることを望んでいます。　キャンプ中及び公演の指導は全て日本語で行われます。　劇団「大きな夢」は、子供たちの無限の可能性を引き出すべく１６年前に設立され、現在は全国規模で展開している実績のある劇団です。劇団に関する詳しい情報はウェブサイト、www.ookinayume.jp をご覧ください。

Our MissionTo provide a stimulating and educational Japanese/Japanese Canadian cultural experience for young

children.

Nana korobi ya oki(Seven down, eight up)

This is a famous Japanese proverb that means

“fall down seven times, get up eight times” and is symbolic of perseverance

through tough times. Life is full of ups and downs,

and no matter how tough things get,

one must keep going.

Michael Shin is a 51-year-old husband and father of three children, Thomas (17), Jaclyn (14) and Erica (10). He met his wife June (née Oyagi), 35 years ago when they were both teenagers and they had their whole lives ahead of them. Over the years they cultivated many friendships and have been blessed by good, caring extended families. They had hoped to grow old together and enjoy their retirement and future grandchildren.

Sadly, Michael has developed a rare and fatal illness called Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). This disease attacks the cells in the brain, impairing judgment, social skills and language abilities. There is currently no cure or treatment to slow its progress.
