Nuestra exposición veraniega “el arte en la playa” cumplehoy su décimo aniversario. Para esta cuarta edición, hemosdecidido, con la ciudad de Ramatuelle, organizar un “oneman show”.

Con la colaboración de la Galería Jérôme de Noirmont,vamos a presentar más de una docena de esculturas delartista grafitistero americano Keith Haring.

Este conjunto de esculturas incluye obras monumentales,ya presentadas durante la retrospectiva consagrada alartista por la ciudad de Nueva York en 1997 en la QuintaAvenida. Otras obras nunca han sido expuestas al público.Todas representan la técnica utilizada por Haring en suobra esculpida: el acero pintado.

A dichas esculturas van a agregarse:- La BMW Z1, enteramente pintada por el artista.- El Pop Shop, conjuntos de contenedores, pintados y ajus-tados que componían la tienda de los productos comercialesHaring, que el artista había realizado para la ciudad de Tokyo.Este último no se había presentado desde su desmontaje,hace más de diez años.

Queremos agradecer el ayuntamiento de Ramatuelle y laPrefectura del Var por la confianza que nos han dado desdelos principios del arte en la playa.

Estas exposiciones nunca hubieran tenido lugar sin elapoyo de todos las playistas de la bahía de Pampelonne yde los VIP Room de Cannes y Saint-Tropez.

Al igual que las ediciones precedentes, un catálogo de másde 130 paginas transcribirá el historial del arte en la playa,presentando las obras, la aventura de su instalación y supresentación in-situ.

Nace en Reading, Pennsilvania (EEUU),

el 4 de mayo de 1958.

1977-79: Empieza sus estudios de diseño gráfico de publi-

cidad en Pittsburgh; después se muda a vivir a Nueva York

y estudia en la escuela de Artes visuales.

Conoce a Kenny Sharf y a JM Basquiat.

1981-85: Cubre con grafitis los carteles publicitarios del

subterráneo neoyorquino. Es uno de los primeros en promover

un arte de la calle. Conoce a Andy Warhol.

Primera exposición en la Galeria Tony Shafrazi, después en

la de Leo Castelli, que lo guía en sus primeros pasos en el

ambiente artístico.

El artista dibuja directamente sobre sus soportes, según su

inspiración, lo más a menudo sin dibujos preparatorios,

produciendo ídolos y dioses con fuerte conotación sexual y

metafórica. Artista original y comprometido, muchos temas le

interesan, como la guerra, o la droga, especialmente en el

barrio de Harlem donde sus frescos denuncian claramente

los prejuicios raciales y sexuales.

Haring crea una iconografía y un vocabulario original, segu-

ramente uno de los más espontáneamente propagados e

inconcientemente imitados en el mundo.

1986: Apertura del “Pop Shop” en el barrio de Soho en Nueva

York.

1987: Keith Haring se entera de su enfermedad: el sida y por

eso crea la Fundación Keith Haring cuya meta es reunir

fondos para luchar contra esa enfermedad.

Muere en Nueva York el 16 de febrero de 1990.
