An exhibition of historic photography is coming this March to celebrate

the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Ireland. The

year 2013 is the 60th anniversary of the armistice that halted the Korean

War, a conflict in which Irish forces fought, as well as the 80th anniversary of

missionary work in Korea by the Missionary Society of St. Columban. As it

celebrates a meaningful year in the two countries’ ties, this event is sure to

be a great opportunity to look back on the history and present of Korea and

Ireland, helping to bring the two countries even closer together.

한국과 아일랜드의 수교 30주년 기념 사진전이 열립니다. 2013년은 아일랜드가 참

전한 한국전 종전 60주년이자 성 콜룸반 외방선교회의 한국 선교 80주년을 맞는 해

입니다. 양국관계에 있어 의미 있는 해를 기념하는 이번 전시를 통해 한국과 아일랜

드의 어제와 오늘을 짚어보고 관계를 공고히 하는 데 기여하기를 희망합니다.

The Annual Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) will be taking place from Mar 21 to 24 at the Manchester

Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego, California. AAS stages this major event every year, bringing together over 3,000 Asian studies

majors from around the world for an opportunity to watch presentations and engage in discussions. The Korea Foundation is

working with the University of California, San Diego to organize the Koreanists’ Reception for Korean studies specialists.

The Korea Foundation is inviting 25 specialists from 18 countries in the

fields of society, culture, and athletics from March 11 to 16. As part of the

first invitational group event of 2013, the guests will visit relevant Korean

organizations and participate in academic and cultural events, where they will

be able to share their opinions and knowledge with their Korean counterparts

and gain firsthand experience in Korea’s history and culture.

To improve international understanding of Korea and strengthen the ties

and friendship among young people, the Korea Foundation has invited a

delegation of 40 American university students to attend the 2013 Korea–

U.S. Youth Network. The delegation will spend nine days in Korea visiting

historic and cultural sites in Seoul, traveling to Panmunjeom, and taking part

in activities with taekwondo and other facets of Korean culture. They will also

be hearing lectures on Korean society, culture, and history and participating

in discussions with Korean students as part of their efforts to gain a deeper

understanding of Korea.

재단은 3월 11일~16일, 5박 6일 동안 18개국 25명의 사회·문화·체육계 해외

인사를 초청합니다. 이번 2013년 첫 그룹 초청사업을 통해 해외인사들은 국내 유

관기관을 방문하고, 관련 인사와 면담을 하며 사회·문화·체육 분야에서의 국제

교류를 확대할 예정입니다.

미국 대학생 대표단 40명이 재단 초청으로 ‘한–미 청소년 네트워크 2013’에 참가

The 2013 Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music New Year’s Salon Concert

took place on Jan 6 at the Korea Foundation Cultural Center Gallery under

the joint auspices of the Korea Foundation and the Spring Chamber Music

Festival executive committee. This festival, featuring some of the top musicians

in Korea and overseas, is set to kick off on May 14, with performances

staged at the Seoul Arts Center, the Sejong Center, Deoksugung Palace, and

other venues in the city over the following 13 days. As co-organizer for this

year’s eighth annual event, the Korea Foundation will be organizing various

programs to allow even more people to take part.

서울스프링실내악축제 2013 새해맞이 살롱콘서트가 1월 6일 재단과 스프링실내

악축제 집행위원회 공동주최로 문화센터 갤러리에서 개최됐습니다. 국내외 정상급

연주자들이 펼치는 2013 서울스프링실내악축제는 5월 14일부터 13일간 예술의

전당, 세종문화회관, 덕수궁 등지에서 진행됩니다. 재단은 8회를 맞는 올해 축제

를 공동주최하여 보다 많은 시민들이 함께하는 문화나눔의 장을 마련합니다.

《이스라엘의 시선》 전시 연계 특강Special Lectures on Israeli Photography and Culture

한국과 이스라엘 수교 50주년을 기념하는 마지막 행사로 《이스라엘의 시선》 전시

가 1월 22일~2월 7일 재단 문화센터 갤러리에서 개최됐습니다. 이스라엘의 역사

와 자연 경관을 담은 사진작품들이 전시됐으며, 관련 특강이 두 차례 진행됐습니

다. 2월 5일에는 이스라엘 사진작가 다나 카플리엥이 ‘사진과 고국’을 주제로 강연

을 펼쳤고, 7일에는 주한이스라엘대사관의 공관차석인 데이비드 레비가 이스라엘

의 역사와 문화에 대해 이야기했습니다. 이번 강연은 사진을 통해 이스라엘이라는

국가를 이해해보는 기회였습니다.

Israel in Photography, the last event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of

diplomatic relations between Korea and Israel, was held at the Korea Foundation

Cultural Center Gallery from January 22 to February 7. The exhibition included

various works of photography showing Israel’s history and natural scenery, as

well as two special talks on related topics. Israel photographer Dana Kapellan

gave a talk on Feb 5 entitled “Photography and Motherland,” while David Levy,

the deputy chief of mission at the Embassy of Israel in Seoul, spoke on Feb 7

about Israel’s history and culture. Both talks provided an opportunity for visitors

to understand more about Israel through its photographs.

From February 15 to March 7, the Korea Foundation Cultural Center Gallery

played host to an exhibition that showed the different faces of Australia

through books, illustrations, animation, and other media. Visitors caught a

glimpse of the child’s heart Down Under through recently published children’s

books and a tiny library packed with illustrations and were spellbound by

photographs shot through the unique eye of a Korean correspondent to

Australia. The exhibition also spotlighted the work of Shaun Tan, who is

an Australian illustrator from a Malaysian immigrant family, noted for his

distinctive blurring of boundaries in culture, generation, and genre.

An event was held February 5 to commemorate the launch of a Korean studies department at the University of Nairobi, Kenya’s

preeminent national university. The event heralded the arrival of the new department, which was established with support

from the Korean embassy in Kenya and includes two visiting professors sent by the Korea Foundation. The 70 attendees, who

included Korean ambassador to Kenya Kim Chan-woo and University of Nairobi vice president George Magoha, offered their

congratulations on the department’s launch and cheered on the winners in a Korean studies essay contest organized for the event.

한국학과 사무실 개소식Inauguration of Korean Studies Department at the University of Nairobi

책, 일러스트, 애니메이션 등 여러 매체를 통해 호주의 다양한 면모를 보여준 전시

가 2월 15일~3월 7일 재단 문화센터 갤러리에서 개최됐습니다. 최근 출간된 호

주 어린이 책과 일러스트로 채운 작은 도서관을 통해 호주의 동심을 들여다보고,

호주 한국특파원의 독특한 시선으로 담아낸 사진들로 관람객들의 시선을 끌었습니

다. 또한 말레이시아 이민 가정에서 태어나 문화와 세대, 장르 간의 경계를 넘나드

는 독특한 작품세계로 유명한 호주 일러스트레이터 숀 탠의 작품을 소개했습니다.

케냐 최고 국립대인 나이로비 대학교의 한국학과 개설을 기념하는

행사가 열렸습니다. 재단의 객원교수 2인 파견과 주케냐대사관의 지

원으로 설립된 나이로비대 한국학과는 2월 5일 사무실 개소식을 열

고 새로운 시작을 알렸습니다. 이날 행사에는 김찬우 주케냐대사와

조지 마고하 나이로비대 부총장 등 70여 명이 참석해 한국학과 출범

을 축하하고, 이를 기념하기 위해 개최된 한국학 에세이 콘테스트 수

상자들을 격려했습니다.

The history of Korean language

education in Vietnam can be traced

back to the establishment of formal

diplomatic relations between Korea

and Vietnam on December 22,

1992. Originating with a program

established in 1993 as a minor at the Vietnam National University of

Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, Korean language programs

are now studied by some 3,000 students at 13 universities throughout

Vietnam. People in Vietnam have a tremendous interest in Korea. Watch

any of the major television channels around the country and you would

think you were in Korea, with all the Korean miniseries and music

showing on the airwaves. Demand for proficiency in Korean has grown

since diplomatic ties were first established, and the country is now on the

hunt for a constructive future for Korean language studies.

Typically, Korean language departments have operated as part of a

larger Eastern studies program. But that situation has begun to change

in the past few years: the Korean language program at the Ho Chi Minh

University of Social Sciences was upgraded into a division in 2010, and in

2012 the program at the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies, the first at a

Vietnamese university to be promoted to a department, was divided into

language and literature components. The abilities of these departments

have been growing beyond all expectations, with active efforts under

way to promote the diversity and expertise of their lecture offerings.

Meanwhile, five Sejong Institutes have opened – one each in Ho Chi Minh

City and Da Lat, three in the northern city of Hanoi – and are offering

studying opportunities to interested members of the general public. More

and more institutions are offering Vietnamese people an experience with

Korean language and culture, including Korean language centers, Korean

writing schools, cultural centers, Korean studies centers, and technical

schools.

베트남 내 한국어학과 발전 현황

베트남에서 한국어교육이 본격적으로 실시되는 계

기를 마련한 시점은 한-베 공식수교가 체결된 1992년 12월 22일부터라고 볼 수 있다. 1993년 국립하노

이인사대에서 부전공으로 개설된 한국어과정을 시작

으로 한-베 수교 20주년이 지난 현재, 전국 13개 학

교에서 약 3천여 명의 학생들이 한국어를 전공하고 있

다. 베트남 내 한국에 대한 관심과 열기는 대단하다.

마치 한국에 있다는 착각이 들 정도로 베트남 전 지역

의 주요 텔레비전 채널에서 한국 드라마와 음악이 방

송되고 있으며, 외교관계 수립 이후 한국어 구사자 수

요가 늘어나 한국어학과의 건설적인 발전을 모색하게

되었다.

한국어학과는 보통 대학 내 동방학부 소속학과로

있지만 2010년 국립호찌민인사대에서 독립학과로 승

격된 것을 기점으로, 2012년 하노이 국립외대에서

베트남 대학 중 최초로 한국어학부로 승격된 후 한국

어학과와 한국어문학과로 분과되었다. 강좌의 다양

화와 전문성 강화를 위해 노력하는 등 한국어(학)과의

역량이 기대 이상으로 커지고 있다. 이 밖에도 호찌

민과 달랏에 각 1곳, 북부지역 하노이 3곳에 세종학

당이 개설되어 한국어를 배우고 싶어하는 일반인들에

게도 학습기회를 제공하게 되었다. 또한 한국어학당,

한글학교, 문화원, 한국학센터, 기술학교 등을 중심

으로 한국어와 한국문화를 접할 수 있는 전문기관이

확대되고 있다.

필자가 몸담은 달랏대학교는 고산지대에 위치한 국립대

학임에도 불구하고 2012년 신입생 모집에 한국학과에만

120명의 지원자가 몰렸다. 이들을 전부 수용하는 것이 불

가능해 일본어 및 베트남학과로 지원을 유도하느라 신입생

개강일이 10월 중순으로 연기될 정도였다. 이런 현상은 신

입생 모집 때마다 흔히 일어나는 일이라고 한다. 달랏대의

한국학과 인기가 이 정도라면 호찌민이나 하노이 대학의

상황은 굳이 설명하지 않아도 짐작할 수 있을 것이다. 한국

어(학)과의 인기가 이토록 폭발적인 것은 졸업 후 많은 혜

택이 주어지기 때문이다. 한류 영향과 한국기업의 베트남

진출 및 투자증가로 한국어 구사자 수요가 높아짐에 따라

한국어(학)과 졸업생들은 100퍼센트 취업률을 보장받고 다

른 전공자들에 비해 급여 수준도 높다고 한다.

베트남은 사회주의 국가임에도 개혁·개방정책을 과감

히 진행하고 있다. 풍부한 자원과 노동력을 기반으로 한국

기업의 활발한 투자를 받고 있어 한국어(학)과는 무한한 발

전 가능성이 잠재되어 있다. 교원 및 학생 수 증가 등 양

적인 성장은 어느 정도 이루었기에 앞으로는 질적인 부분

을 보완하는 데 힘쓴다면 괄목할만한 발전을 이룰 것이다.

우선적으로 한국어(학)과가 개설되어 있는 대학교의 전공

수업을 통합교육 중심의 커리큘럼(역사, 경제, 문화, 지리

등)으로 발전시키고, 학생 수준에 맞는 교재를 개발해야 한

다. 전문가와 정부기관이 함께 교재개발을 추진한다면 해

외 한국어 교원의 질적 수준을 향상하는 데 도움이 되리라

본다.

이제부터는 가시적인 결과에만 치중해서는 안 된다. 한

국 정부 및 관련 기관이 앞장서 부족한 부분을 보완하고 내

실을 갖춘다면 베트남 내 한국어(학) 발전은 기대 이상의

결실을 맺게 될 것이라 확신한다.

My institution, the University of Dalat, is a national university in

a mountainous location, but in 2012 there were 120 applicants

among the incoming students for the Korean studies division alone.

Since it was impossible to admit all of them, we ended up having

to postpone the first day of classes until mid-October as we tried to

steer them toward Japanese or Vietnamese studies instead. I am told

this has been a rather frequent occurrence with every batch of new

students. And if Korean studies are this popular at Dalat, one can

easily imagine what the situation is like at universities in Ho Chi Minh

City or Hanoi. The reason Korean language and Korean studies is so

popular is because they offer many benefits to graduates. With the

demand for Korean speakers rising amid the Korean Wave and the

growing presence and investment of Korean companies in Vietnam,

degree holders in Korean or Korean studies are virtually assured

employment, and at higher rates of pay than other majors receive.

Vietnam may be a socialist country, but it is implementing many

bold measures aimed at reform and openness. Thanks to the active

investment of Korean companies, with their abundant resources and

workforce, Korean and Korean studies departments enjoy nearly

limitless potential for growth. With the quantitative growth that has

already taken place – including the rising numbers of faculty members

and students – future efforts to increase quality are sure to produce

astounding results. The first step here needs to be the development

of major courses at universities with Korean and Korean studies

departments into an integrated curriculum (with history, economics,

culture, geography, etc.), as well as the development of classroom

materials suited to the students. If experts and government agencies

can work together on developing the right texts, this will most

definitely be helpful in improving the quality of Korean language

teachers overseas.

But we should not only focus on visible outcomes. If the Korean

government and Korean institutions lead the way in addressing

deficiencies and promoting quality, I am positive that the

development of Korean language and Korean studies education will

exceed all expectations.

General (Ret.) Burwell B. Bell, former Commander of United Nations

Command (UNC), Combined Forces Command (CFC), and United States

Forces Korea (USFK), visited Korea from January 22 to 27 at the invitation

of the Korea Foundation. Bell now works independently as a defense and

national security specialist. During his stay in Korea, he visited the South

Korean Minister of National Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,

Commander of the CFC, and deputy commander of the CFC. He also met

former Ministers of National Defense Paik Sun-yup, Kim Jang-soo, Kim Tae-

young, Lee Sang-hee, and member of the 19th National Assembly Chung

Mong-joon and discussed about the new Obama administration’s defense

strategy and the current situation of the Korean Peninsula.

The Korea Foundation invited General (Ret.) Burwell B. Bell as distinguished

speaker at the Korea Public Diplomacy Forum (KPDF), held on January 24,

2013. General Bell spoke on the theme of “A New Defense Strategy for a

New Era,” offering his suggestions for the Barack Obama administration’s

defense strategy, “Pivot to Asia,” as he begins his second term.

재단은 1월 22일부터 27일까지 버웰 벨 사령관을 방한 초청했습니다. 벨 사령

관은 前 유엔사·연합사·주한미군사 사령관을 지냈으며, 현재 국방 및 안보전

문가로서 독립적으로 활동하고 있습니다. 방한 기간 동안 벨 사령관은 국방부장

관, 합참의장, 한미연합사 사령관, 한미연합사 부사령관을 예방하고, 김장수 前

국방부장관, 김태영 前 국방부장관, 백선엽 前 국방부장관, 이상희 前 국방부장

관, 그리고 정몽준 의원과 미국의 신 국방 전략 및 한반도 현황에 대해 심도 있

는 의견을 교환했습니다.

재단은 한국공공외교포럼(KPDF)에 버웰 벨 사령관을 강연자로 초빙해 ‘새 시대

새로운 미국의 국방전략’을 주제로 제2기 오바마 행정부의 국방전략 방향에 대해

토론했습니다.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, general secretary of Myanmar’s National League

for Democracy, visited Korea from January 28 to February 1 at the

invitation of the Korea Foundation. During her stay, Daw Anug San Suu Kyi

made visits with President Lee Myung-bak, President-elect Park Geun-hye,

National Assembly Speaker Kang Chang-hee, and Seoul Mayor Park Won-

soon. She also made a speech at the 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics

Winter Games and attended a ceremony to receive an honorary doctorate

from Seoul National University.

The 5th KF Global Leadership Camp took place on February 4–6 with 57 students

from multicultural families at the JEI Learning Training Center in Cheonan. Five

students who had completed the three steps of the forum’s program were

appointed as “Youth Mentors,” to help usher the younger students along in their

development into future global leaders.

The Arirang–KF Global Media Forum, jointly organized by the Korea

Foundation and Arirang TV, took place from February 21 to 24, and included

30 CEOs and media officials from around the world, along with 300 Korean

media professionals. Participants shared their thoughts on how global media

should become a conduit for common international interests by focusing on

such issues as catastrophic climate change, development cooperation, the

international trade system, and territorial and other disputes.

재단은 1월 28일~2월 1일 아웅 산 수지 민족민주동맹 사무총장을 방한 초청

했습니다. 아웅 산 수지 사무총장은 방한 기간 동안 이명박 대통령, 박근혜 대

통령당선자, 강창희 국회의장, 박원순 서울시장과 면담하고, 평창 동계 스페셜

올림픽과 서울대학교 명예박사학위 수여식에 참석했습니다.

재단은 2월 4일~6일 다문화가정 학생 57명과 함께 천안 JEI 재능교육연수원에서 제5차

KF 희망포럼을 개최했습니다. 금번 KF 희망포럼에서는 2010년부터 KF 희망포럼 전과

정(Global, Bridge, Leader)을 수료한 학생들이 ”청소년 멘토”로 참여해 후배를 이끌어

주는 진정한 가교역할을 시작하는 뜻깊은 자리이기도 했습니다.

재단은 2월 21일~24일 아리랑국제방송과 공동으로 국제 방송사 CEO 및 미디어

관계자 30명과 300여 명의 국내 미디어 관계자를 초청하여 Arirang-KF 글로벌 미

디어 포럼을 개최했습니다. 포럼 참가자들은 국제 이슈인 ▲기후변화 ▲개발협력

▲국제무역문제 ▲영토분쟁 등을 다루는 데 있어 글로벌 미디어가 국제적 공공재

창출에 기여해야 한다는 인식을 나눴습니다.

Not your typical tourist guide, this book offers a fascinating and in-

I was stunned. Unable to believe it, the perfection of these

characters. Soberly, they stared back at me, each of the characters

lined up before my eyes. I could sense the awe flashing in every

shape, the beautiful balance that coursed through the writing. What

linguist’s experiment produced such consummation, I wondered.

They seemed like nothing that would exist in the real world. This was

my impression on first encountering Hangeul.

It was late at night several years ago, at a library at the Ca’ Foscari

University of Venice. When I recall the first time I saw Hangeul, the

feelings of that night come rushing back. Embossed on the pages,

the characters –ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ, ㄹ, ㅁ, ㅂ– seemed to be performing a kind

of elegant dance, like leaves quivering in the spring breeze outside

the window. I will always think about the characters that spring

night when I remember my first feelings about Hangeul. I must learn

the language that uses them, I thought. I became intensely curious

about the country, Korea, and with that moment’s resolve I began my

adventure with Hangeul.

That magic, that feeling that still remains somehow foreign to me

even now as I work as a Korean Fellow at the Korea Foundation,

makes me savor whatever I may be reading, so long as it is written in

얼떨떨했다. 어찌나 완벽하던지, 이 글자의 존재를 믿을

수 없어서 얼떨떨했다. 눈앞에 줄줄이 서 있는 글자 한 자

한 자가 나를 엄숙히 보고 있었다. 각각의 모양 속에서 번

쩍번쩍 빛나는 경외감과 글에 흐르는 아름다운 균형을 느

낄 수 있었다. 너무나 완벽해서 언어학자가 무슨 실험으로

만든 글자가 아닌가 싶었다. 현실에는 존재하지 않을 것만

같았다. 그것이 바로 내가 처음 한글을 만난 소감이다.

몇 년 전 어느 늦은 봄, 베네치아 대학교 도서관에서였

다. 지금도 한글과의 첫 만남을 떠올리면 그날의 느낌이 되

살아난다. 펼쳐진 책장 위에 새겨진 ‘ㄱㄴㄷㄹㅁㅂ’과 같은

글자들은 창문 밖 봄바람에 흔들리는 잎새처럼 멋지게 춤

추는 듯했다. 한글에 대한 나의 첫 느낌은 항상 그 봄날의

글자로 기억될 것이다. 이 글자를 쓰는 언어를 꼭 배워야겠

다고 생각하자 한국이라는 나라가 무척 궁금해졌다. 한 순

간의 결심으로, 한글을 향한 나의 모험이 시작됐다.

그때부터 한국국제교류재단의 한국어 펠로로 활동하고

있는 지금까지 한글의 신비함이 아직도 낯설게 느껴지는

나는, 한글로 쓰인 글이라면 무엇이든 음미하며 읽는 것

을 좋아한다. 한국에서 생활하고 공부하며 한국문화를 알

게 될수록 한국문학의 아름다움에 점점 더 빠져들게 됐다.

Hangeul. The more time I spent living in Korea, studying and learning

about Korean culture, the deeper I fell under the spell of the beauty

of Korean literature. And I suddenly realized: that beauty is mostly

unknown in my home country of Italy. Literature is about sharing

and relating the lives, loves, woes, and hopes of a country’s people,

yet Korean literature is not simply literature – it is literature written in

glorious Hangeul. It is the only literature written in Hangeul, a fact

that alone makes it meaningful and worthwhile. Reading it can also,

in some sense, be an appreciation of the characters. I want to suffer

and dream with the Korean people through their literature.

It sends my heart racing to think about it – the power of each one

of those characters in a work written by one of the authors who

have appeared in Korea’s history. The years may have passed, but the

power of those characters remains ever alive, a fact that makes me

want to boast of Hangeul as a Korean would. It warms my heart to

think of Korea’s children who grow up learning in Hangeul, who have

those beautiful characters forever engraved in their minds. These

experiences, these thoughts, came to shape my life’s goal: to share

Korea with Italians by translating Korean literature.

It is thanks to the Korea Foundation that I could have this

invaluable experience that I would not trade for anything; that I could

dream of being a translator of Korean literature. I hope my bond with

the country of Hangeul lasts forever, and I vow to work even harder

in the days to come.

그러다 그 아름다움이 나의 고향 이탈리아에는 많이 알려

져 있지 않다는 사실을 깨달았다. 문학은 한 나라 사람들의

인생, 사랑, 괴로움, 그리고 희망을 이야기하고 나누는 것

이다. 그런데 한국문학은 그냥 문학이 아니라 그토록 훌륭

한 한글로 이루어진 문학이다. 한글로 표현되는 유일한 문

학이기에 그 자체로 유일무이한 의미와 가치를 갖는 문학.

그런 면에서 한국문학을 읽는 것은 한글의 미학적인 감상

이라 할 수 있다. 문학을 통해 나는 한국인들과 함께 괴로

워하기도 하고 꿈꾸기도 하고 싶다.

한국역사 속에 등장했던 작가들의 작품 속 한글 한 자 한

자마다 힘이 담겨 있다는 것에 가슴이 뛴다. 세월이 흘러

도 그 속에 담긴 한글의 힘은 언제까지나 살아있을 것이기

에 나는 한국 사람처럼 한글을 자랑하고 싶다. 또한 한국

아이들이 한글로 교육을 받고 자라며, 그들의 머릿속에 이

아름다운 글자가 영원히 새겨진다는 사실이 나를 뭉클하게

한다. 이러한 경험과 생각은 ‘한국문학 번역을 통해 이탈

리아에 한국을 알리고 싶다.’는 나의 인생목표에 밑바탕이

됐다.

무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 값진 경험과 ‘한국문학 번역가’라

는 꿈을 꿀 수 있는 것은 한국국제교류재단 덕분이다. ‘한

글의 나라’와의 인연이 오래오래 지속되길 바라며 앞으로

더 열심히 하겠다는 의지를 다져본다.

The Korea Foundation was established in 1991 to promote awareness

and understanding of Korea and to enhance goodwill and friendship

throughout the international community. As a representative organization

for Korea’s public diplomacy, the Korea Foundation works to share Korea,

its people, and its culture with the rest of the world through a variety

of international activities, including academic, intellectual, and cultural

exchanges. These efforts serve to implement “Global Korea” and foster

friendships throughout the world. The Korea Foundation represents the

essence of Korea, reaching out to the citizens of the world.
