Since this hot spring first emerged from the ground in 1954, Kikuchi Onsen has enjoyed a continuous ample supply of 100% naturally heated hot spring water. The colorless, transparent water is alkaline, and maintained at roughly 45 degrees Celsius. It is effective in bringing out beautiful skin, healing neuralgia, rheumatism, and other ailments. Kikuchi Gorge, the headwaters of the Kikuchigawa River, is covered by a thick lush forest of natural broadleaf trees. The fresh water that meanders through the forest forms rapids, deep pools and waterfalls of varying sizes. The streams and beautiful forest have created magnificent and magical scenery.The area along the gorge is a place that soothes the hearts of visitors all year round, where the murmur of streams and the sound of birds singing relaxes the mind and nurtures a dream: In summer, the cold clear streams (called a natural cooler), with an average temperature in summer of only 13 degrees Celsius, are ideal for escaping the heat. In

autumn, colored foliage reflected on the streams is spectacular. In spring, enjoy fresh green vegetation. In winter, ice coats tree branches in the forest.

The museum has a tourist information desk. There are permanent exhibition rooms where the history of Kikuchi and profiles of people from Kikuchi are introduced, a gallery and a corner where you can enjoy hands-on experience in stone paintings and other activities.
