Many of the urban areas’ wealthy whites moved from the cities to the outlying suburbs in order to keep the segregated feeling of the past.

was viewed as normal.The father would work

outside the home while the mother would stay at home, cooking, cleaning, and raising the children.

The idea of “father knows best” was established. This meant that the head male figure of the household was in charge of practically everything.
