COMMENTS

The hoard was found in a field by Alfred Johansson, Lilla Väller (Vellarve). The coins lay beside a group of stones (one large flat, square stone and some smaller stones) located just beneath the surface. This could suggest that the coins had been deposited with the stones as cover or in a house near a post hole. The hoard was redeemed by SHM. In 1917 Länsmuséet på Gotland (Gotlands

Fornsal) acquired the hoard in an exchange with SHM. This is the earliest hoard from Sweden with a Volga-Bulgar coin.
