Readings for the Week of January 2, 2011Readings for the Week of January 2, 2011Readings for the Week of January 2, 2011Readings for the Week of January 2, 2011 Jan 2 = Is 60:1-6; Eph 3:2-3a, 5-6; Mt 2:1-12 All nations are invited to sing the Lord’s praises for they have been called to hear the good news and worship the long-awaited Messiah and King with the gift of their lives. Jan 3 = 1 Jn 3:22-4:6; Ps 2: 7-8,10-12a; Mt 4:12-17,23-25 We are called to reform our lives, to believe in Jesus Christ, and to pay him homage. Jan 4 = 1 Jn 4: 7-10; Ps 72:1-4,7-8; Mk 6:34-44 God, the source and model of love and justice, is perfectly mirrored in the Incarnation of his Son. Jan 5 = 1 Jn 4: 11-18; Ps 72: 11-2,10, 12-13; Mk 6: 45-52 Those who abide in love will have no cause for fear for Jesus is God-with-us, the epiphany of divine love, who saves us when we cry out. Jan 6 = 1 Jn 4: 19—5:4; Ps 72: 1-2, 14, 15bc, 17; Lk 4: 14-22a Jesus proclaims the gratuitous love of God. Let every nation respond to this grace by keeping God’s com-mandments. Jan 7 = 1 Jn 5: 5-13; Ps 147: 12-15, 19-20; Lk 5: 12-16 By believing in the son of God, the leper is cured of his disease and God is praised. Jan 8 = 1 Jn 5:14-21; Ps 149:1-6a,9b; Jn 3: 22-30
The Lord loves us for he hears our prayers and keeps us in his care. John rejoices in hearing the voice of the Messiah.
Catequesis Comunitaria
Community Catechesis
Jesus is a gift to all humanity Solemnity of the Epiphany Week of January 2, 2011
Listen to the Word (Matthew 2:1-12)
What one word or thought in this reading really strikes you? What image from this reading lingers for you now in your memory?
Look into Your Life
Question for Children: In your life, who helps you to see Jesus in other people such as a classmate or a friend? Question for Youth: Life can sometimes be rough: losing your home, moving, feeling fear or danger. How do you experience God being and staying with you in such times? Question for Adults: How this past week did you demonstrate God's love at home and at work?
Activities for the home this week Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings: Place the Magi into the crèche. Identify a gift you have to bring the Newborn King. Talk about the gift with family members and invite them to reflect on the gifts they wish to bring. Take a winter-night walk on a clear crisp evening. Find the North Star or any constellations you recognize. If you have any small children with you, remind them that the Wise Men followed the brightest star in the sky in order to find Baby Jesus. Help them find the brightest star in the night sky. Enjoy this facet of God's world. In an effort to follow the light of Christ, it sometimes helps to remove some of the clutter in our lives. Choose an evening or Saturday morning in which radio, television and computer are all turned off and your home becomes quiet. If you have children, explain to them the need to seek God in silence. The three kings gave gifts to Jesus, and we just received Christmas gifts. Go through your books and toys. Make a special Epiphany box for the poor and donate the box to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or an-other place in your community that helps those in need.
