On the upper Gulf of Thailand, six provinces of Bangkok Metropolitan Region (BMR) including Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pthum Thani, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Prakan cover 7,650 square kilometers of the Chao Phraya Estuary. After the founding in 1783, the city was transformed over 200 years by socioeconomics and consumerist influences, which contributed to rapid urbaniza-tion and infrastructure development. In early period, the construction of extensive waterworks was influenced by global demands of agricultural products. Massive irrigation projects were to supply suffi-cient water and control excessive rainfall. After the collapse of the world market for agricultural product between 1980 and 1986, the monetary and trade reforms engaged foreign investment and export manufacturing. Since then, Thai’s economics had fully shifted toward industrialization, which contributed to the construction of land-based infrastructure.
