If possible, support a local charity or conservation group. Spend your money wisely: try to leave it in local hands and Pay a fair price for your purchases / services. eat at local restaurants and buy local produce when- ever possible. Hire a local guide: you'll discover more about local cul- ture and lives, and they will earn an income. Keep your showers short. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth. Reuse your sheets and towels. Bring your own toiletries and drinking cup rather than using the prepackaged ones provided. When you leave the room, turn off the air conditioning, heat, television, lights. offset carbon miles through airports or specialised companies. Travel by train and public transport, Walk and cycle: you will discover unexpected areas in your journey. Buy souvenirs with a critical eye: natural ones made of wood, coral, shell or ivory can be tarnished with envi- ronmental damage. Stay on approved footpaths when walking, marked routes when skiing, climbing or trekking, and roads when driving. on diving holidays, don't touch the corals or sea life. Leave no litter behind: dispose of it properly. IE: if you smoke, bring a pocket ashtray. Write to your tour operator, hotel and Sustainable Tourism Ireland with feedback about your holiday. Ex- press your appreciation for any eco-friendly programs it currently offers and criticism of any shortcomings, so they can be addressed. pass these guidelines on to someone else.
